LOVE or HATE FP+ Anyone's mind been changed ??

1) you still purchased as prices went up

2) maybe the no exp will be back when you buy 10 years from now
I'll answer that like garth would from waynes world. They'll bring back the no expiration when monkeys fly out of my butt! It's gone like the magic kingdom club and so many other good methods for making a trip more affordable!

I have only used FP+ for a long weekend trip last summer. For us it was very helpful as we had a limited amount of time to work with (one day each for MK,E,HS). However I am beginning to think about our big family reunion trip in the summer of 2016 (around 10 days) and I am a little nervous about the planning involved for FP+ to work for a large group (8 adults).

Back to the original topic, I do NOT like the new FP+ system. My issue was, I couldn't lock in one headliner as my choice for all 3 FP+. I wanted to use BTMR as my3 FP+ picks, and I wasn't allowed. FP+ is kinda like a buffet. It offers a lot of choices, but if you just want a steak it isn't available. Does that make sense? Perhaps it has changed.

I just finished my trip up on Monday. This was be our 5 long trip using FP+ and I still don't like it.

What makes a huge difference is that all of the trips are over big peak times and FP- was a way for us to enjoy what we liked. With FP+, we noticed a considerable decrease in what we can enjoy.

One example is TSMM and DHS in general. It was a half day park for us always. We would get up, go to RD, get a FP- ride once walk around, do what we felt like, ride a second time and usually lunch at the BD. Several things have changed because of FP+.

  • Because FP+ starts right at opening, the SB at RD has slowed considerably. I am now completely stopped in the SB line while FP+ is a steady stream. Again, this may only occur during 9-10 level crowds.
  • I no longer book TS lunches, which I used to really enjoy as a nice cool break mid-day.
  • I am hesitant to book FP+ at DHS because the other two are completely useless. Star Tours, GMR and Muppets had a longer FP+ line than SB line.
  • I find myself booking more days at MK because there isn't anything there I don't ride and enjoy (except speedway and the Tea Cups). There is more for us to enjoy.
  • I tried booking DHS for arrival day and that didn't work well. When the DH decided his stomach wasn't going to be working well that afternoon, instead of enjoying the ride from the airport to the resort (who doesn't love that feeling of arrival) my nose was in my phone looking for something else for that day to replace TT and there was NOTHING. It was the day after, Presidents Day and DHS was closing early and even changing the times didn't work. It wasn't something that I wanted to be doing right then but I had no choice. So for some of us, there isn't moving things around easily or at all.
In the end, we had a nice lunch poolside at the S&D, walked over to DHS rode Star Tours and TSMM and walked back to the hotel. Obviously not horrible arrival day but not ideal and not as enjoyable as in the past.

I have always thought that it would really help things if FP return times did not start until at least 45 minutes after the park opened, as was the case before. Give the people who arrive when the park opens the benefit of an hour to ride things before they start getting held up by the steady stream of returning FP'ers. I don't think it is only a "9-10" phenomenon. In fact, on a slower day when getting 4, 5, 6, 7 or more FPs is a real possibility, there is an incentive to use your FPs as early as possible so that you can start pulling more. If I were going on a "9-10" day, I would never make a FP for first thing in the morning. I would try to milk the RD effect as much as I could and would use my FPs later in the day. But I suppose all it takes is 50 people who think otherwise, or who can only get FPs for 8:15 to make the situation back up. There is always debate here as to whether or not FP+ is making SB lines longer, or if it is just a perception that people have. But it cannot be disputed that SB lines are moving slower in the first 30-60 minutes of park operation when people with FPs start to use them two minutes after RD. This is especially troublesome at the attractions that "sell out" of FPs like TSMM.

We definitely found that to be the case. Morning EMH is the new rope drop - it doesn't have to compete with an immediate influx of FP.

This thread had slipped all the way to page two in the forum. Like most FP+ debate threads, I was following (though not posting until now because I haven't used it enough to have much of an opinion except against all the pre-planning), and actually getting some information.

Do I need to insult people to kickstart things again? ;) Okay: FP+ lovers and FP+ haters sitting in a tree ...

Not happy about not being able to make FP's in 2 different parks. AK and HS are always half days for us but there are at least 1 ride in each that need FP but not 3. There is no way by the time I get to the next park they will have anything good left. It is like we are being forced not to park hop which I don't get because they make money on the option.

Definitely not a fan of the Tiers either. Really what is the purpose of that. I could see it if there is no standby line but there is. I will try to be positive and see how it goes but it is getting harder and harder. Really glad my kids are both college age next year and not young.

Hollywood Studios was never a half day park for me. In fact, I enjoyed spending all day there multiple days of my trip. With the tiers and the limit of 3 to possibly 4 fast passes, it has knocked it down to a half day or possibly a full day with a nice long midday break in there. I hate that.

Animal Kingdom was always a half day park for us and it is getting to where it is really less than that. Come lunch time, or about 2 to 2 and a half hours after rope drop, we are done.

"It is like we are being forced not to park hop which I don't get because they make money on the option."

Actually, FP+ had made it much easier for us to park hop. We do standby on lesser rides in the morning park and save our fp+'s for the afternoon park. Before, we always had to worry about availability of paper fp in the evenings at HS and Epcot for sure. So it has enabled us to more effectively park hop. It's the biggest advantage FP+ gives us.

“...The flying sequences will be brought to life through large video screens — similar to “Soarin'” — with vehicles moving with the 3D action inside a massive theater."

So picture a stationary vehicle shaped like a banshee instead of a hang glider.

Stationary and moving are opposites. The article says the vehicles move - they are therefore not stationary!

Hope everyone has a magical trip!

If you consider Soarin to have vehicles that move with the action, large video screens (note the plural), 3D action, and a massive theatre, then you should expect the new attraction to be just like Soarin with a different skin.

I prefer to wait for more information, or maybe even a chance to experience the attraction, before expecting to be disappointed.

I don't think an attraction that is similar to Soarin' would be a disappointment. I loved Soarin' up until the film got so dirty that I was unable to pretend I was flying.

In an age of 4K HD television, it is harder for ground-breaking rides like Soarin to not look dated. Someday these rides will get a digital update.

Actually Soarin' is scheduled to be updated I believe. A few weeks ago someone posted that the permits had either been granted, submitted ..something to that effect, meaning that it's actually actively in the works. Good news as Soarin' has been looking a little rough lately. How long that will take, what it will actually entail and when we'll know about it- only Disney knows.
