I have added your thread to the cruise meet list :beach:
Have a great cruise!

Hi! DH, DD (who will be turning 5 the day of departure!) and I are looking forward to this being our first cruise! Would love to get involved in the Fish Extender. Any tips for cruising are greatly appreciated :).

Welcome aboard! So glad to see another family join in! What a great way to celebrate your daughter's birthday! My son will turn 8 just a couple of weeks before the cruise. My daughter is about the same age as your daughter.

We sailed the same cruise on the Magic this past February. We had a great time. The fish extenders are a lot of fun and my kids had a great time with it. Are you on Facebook? I have a Facebook group setup and can send you a message with the link!

If you have any specific questions, let me know....I'll try my best to answer them or I'm sure we can track down an answer somewhere! I'll see if I can come up with a few tips that helped on our trip!

My family is cruis'n and i'd love tips & ideas. And what are fish extenders and please add me to the facebook group. my big question at this point is getting to the cruise from an airport - suggestions please. we have not yet made airplane arrangements - best to fly to orlando? any hotels have transportation to cruise if we stay night before?

Welcome to you and your family! I'll send a private message with the facebook group - or you can search facebook for the group: "DCL Dream - Love on the Dream - Disney Dream Cruise 2/13/2015." It's private so you'll need to send a request to join.

Glad to see some other folks joining in on the cruise. We went in February this year on the Magic and are looking forward to sailing on the Dream! Here are some answers to your questions:

Hotels near the Port:
Flying into either Orlando or Sanford are probably the best options. There are a few hotel options right there. Off the top of my head, I know of at least 3 that are right at the port and offer a shuttle the morning of the cruise: Country Inn & Suites, Residence Inn, and Radisson. When we priced them all out for our trip last year, they were all about the same price.

Fish Extenders:
The fish extender group (also known as a FE) is lots of fun! The name Fish Extender is used because there are little metal fish hanging outside your cabin door right above the cabin number. People hang a "fish extender" outside for others to leave treats in. (Picture a fabric hanging organizer...some are decorated/personalized.)

We participated in one this year on our first cruise and gave a little gift bag to each cabin and received all sorts of things. You can google for Fish Extender ideas and get an idea of what gifts people give. In my opinion, it's not meant to break the budget....just a fun little way to share gifts and have extra fun on the cruise. As the cruise gets closer, we'll gather the names and cabin numbers of all who are participating and then deliver the gifts at some point throughout the cruise. Sometimes you know who gave you the gift, other times you don't. My kids had a great time walking around the ship and also enjoyed returning to our cabin to see what kinds of goodies were waiting for them!

Hope this info helps!

Our family will be cruising with you all! The trip is a surprise Christmas present for our kiddos DD(will be 13 at cruise) and DS (will be 15 at cruise).

The cruise can't get here soon enough for me since we just returned last week from WDW and I am having withdrawals! We haven't Disney cruised since DD, Mom, and I went in 2009 on the Wonder.

An FE sounds like a great idea!

Look forward to chatting with you all between now and then!

Welcome aboard! I share your withdrawals - my daughter and I were at WDW celebrating her birthday near the end of May and I'm so ready to go back! We may add a couple of park days before we get on the cruise, but plans are still up in the air.

We'll be setting up a FE as time gets closer - let me know if you need the facebook link so you can join the group!

Hello everyone, I just booked to go tonight, there will be me (Karen) and DH (John), it's my hubby's birthday on the 14th so this is a treat for him. I am looking forward to meeting you all.

Perhaps you can help me or direct me to where to get info.... a couple of different things:

travelling with DS15 and DD12 - did you rent the cruise walk-talkies to communicate with kids? do you let them do their own thing - if yes what places can they both go into on board?

Any experience with room service? - what is included in cruise price/what isn't & how much do you tip? What do you plan on doing on Nassau day?

Boarding and deboarding -- what time for boarding? can we have lunch on board? and how do we can a late deboarding time?

any tips/info for rental car or getting from port canaveral to resort in disneyworld after cruise? we do plan on renting a car two days before the cruise to spend day and a half in FL before cruise - so we need to decide to keep car for a week or return it before cruise.

There are Wave phones in each cabin that are free for you to use and they work onboard. My kids are younger and weren't out on their own, but we carried the phones so the Kid's Club could call us if necessary.

Room service is included with the cruise price - perhaps somebody else can give a usual tip amount - I can't remember what we have done.

For Nassau, we have stayed on the ship and enjoyed the quiet times!

You can board as early as 11:00am. When you do the online checkin, you will pick an arrival time. The restaurants are open and ready to feed you so YES, you can eat lunch as soon as you are on the ship.

Hope this helps!

Well, here I am the one who started the thread and it looks like my family and I are jumping ship. We had a change in plans and are going back on the Magic for a different itinerary! I'm bummed because I was anxious to try the Dream, but we our schedules have worked out so we can take a longer vacation.

I will be glad to hand off the facebook page to somebody - or if anybody wants to start a new one, that's cool. I hope you all have a wonderful cruise and perhaps we'll meet again on a future Disney adventure!

Great! Thanks for updating - I'll contact the admin for the Cruise Meets and have them update the link for the cruise - I'll also put these links at the top of this thread so future cruisers will be redirected! Have a great cruise! We have since decided on a different sailing, but I'm sure you will all have a fun trip....enjoy!
