My family is cruis'n and i'd love tips & ideas. And what are fish extenders and please add me to the facebook group. my big question at this point is getting to the cruise from an airport - suggestions please. we have not yet made airplane arrangements - best to fly to orlando? any hotels have transportation to cruise if we stay night before?
Welcome to you and your family! I'll send a private message with the facebook group - or you can search facebook for the group: "
DCL Dream - Love on the Dream - Disney Dream Cruise 2/13/2015." It's private so you'll need to send a request to join.
Glad to see some other folks joining in on the cruise. We went in February this year on the Magic and are looking forward to sailing on the Dream! Here are some answers to your questions:
Hotels near the Port:
Flying into either Orlando or Sanford are probably the best options. There are a few hotel options right there. Off the top of my head, I know of at least 3 that are right at the port and offer a shuttle the morning of the cruise: Country Inn & Suites, Residence Inn, and Radisson. When we priced them all out for our trip last year, they were all about the same price.
Fish Extenders:
The fish extender group (also known as a FE) is lots of fun! The name Fish Extender is used because there are little metal fish hanging outside your cabin door right above the cabin number. People hang a "fish extender" outside for others to leave treats in. (Picture a fabric hanging organizer...some are decorated/personalized.)
We participated in one this year on our first cruise and gave a little gift bag to each cabin and received all sorts of things. You can google for Fish Extender ideas and get an idea of what gifts people give. In my opinion, it's not meant to break the budget....just a fun little way to share gifts and have extra fun on the cruise. As the cruise gets closer, we'll gather the names and cabin numbers of all who are participating and then deliver the gifts at some point throughout the cruise. Sometimes you know who gave you the gift, other times you don't. My kids had a great time walking around the ship and also enjoyed returning to our cabin to see what kinds of goodies were waiting for them!
Hope this info helps!
