Do you think the word "love" is thrown around to often?
For example when someone says :
"I love my friends" or "I love the color blue"
Does it lose its value when you say it to someone you really do love?

Its lost its value a wile ago.

My friends keep saying "I love him" or "I love her" and ...well...

Im sorry but they dont know what love is, I dont know what Love is, just because they have a bf/gf DOES NOT MEAN THEY ARE IN LOVE FOR REAL

geesh

I swear this is a topic I get so...angry about.

BUT

When I say "Oh yeah I love that band" or something like that with the additude I say it i just means i really like them.
OR
When i say "Yeah I love my parents" yes I do love my parents but LOVE LOVE, as in "I love you lets get married" NO

Teens have no idea what real love is.

I sort of agree. Everyone says I love ...
Yes, I know you can love something, but people are always saying it either about stupid things, or to someone way to soon. Love is just a wod to some people. Love has a huge meaning and it should to everyone.

I think it is generally thrown around alot, but I don't think it's lost it's meaning.

I tell people I love them all the time, and I really do LIKE them, but I don't truly LOVE them.

I say it often, but I know when I mean it. Like, really truly mean it. It still has relevancy (to me at least)
When I tell my boyfriend I love him I know it's true, I can feel it. And I'm sure he can too.
When I tell my friend I love her when she lets me borrow her sweater, I still mean it, but not in the same way...

All in All, I don't see a problem with telling people you love them, even if you're not sure you mean it. If you're feeling it in that moment, then go ahead and tell them. I don't think that means that it's losing it's meaning, it means something to you in the moment, even if it's not true the next minute.

If that makes any sense.

I think especially in younger teens/pre-teens it does get used the wrong way. Or like someone says something funny and people are like OMG I love you! But I think when it's serious, you and the other person know it, and therefore it has not lost it's releveancy.

I HATE THAT.
It's really annoying.

But I think that, for most people at least, love hasn't lost real meaning.
I mean, I might say "I love spaghettit" but I also wouldn't jump right into saying "I love you" to my boyfriend.

I think it just developed a couple of different meanings.
1. really like (i.e. a band, sneakers, etc.)
2. appreciation (i.e. after a friend loans you a cd, "I LOVE YOU!")
3. genuinely love, in a platonic way (friends, family, etc.)
4. the big shabang :] (i.e. head over heels, need them in your life forever)

I think love has different meanings for different situations.

You can love someone in a romantic sense.

You can love your family.

I think when you say you love an object or color or what have you, it is just an expression of really liking something. Not necessarily love it.

::yes::
I agree.

snow patrol says it best.
"those three words,
are said too much,
but not enough."

I mean "love" everytime I say it. I mean it in two separate ways though. I mean it in the completely platonic way and I mean it in the romantic way. My romantic love for my ex boyfriend has turned into a platonic love. I think thats all that ever happens to love. it never really goes away, just changes.

love means different things.

as in i love my friends because they're like my family. or there's i love you because your my boyfriend and i really love you.

and yes. it is thrown around too much.

but that doesn't mean it has lost it's meaning.

LOL, I thought this would be a breakup thread.

"Love has lost all meaning for me forever! I AM DOOMED TO SPEND ETERNITY WITH MY 46 CATS... and my autographed picture of Elvis!!"

But no, if you say you love something, it doesn't degrade the... true meaning of love? Is that a good way to put it? Lol

I could not agree more

So you don't think people fall out of love? It just evolves into a different type of love?

I don't think that once you have loved someone for real...you ever really stop, it just changes

Teens have no idea what real love is.

Not true.

Anyways, when I say love, I mean it. Like when I say 'I love my parents', or 'I love my friend so and so' I actually mean I love them. It's not romantic love, but it's still love. I'd do almost anything for those people type of love.

So if I ever tell you I love you, I do mean it. I don't throw around the word.

But to answer your question, I think most people in general don't know what effect their words have to people anymore.

I wouldn't go so far to say it's lost all meaning...
But I will admit people I know use it... well as soon as they start 'dating' someone. It kind of bugs me, because most of the time all they do is tell each other they like each other. They don't actually go out, but their msn names say 'I love you Kate' or whatever. And that bugs me.
Honestly, if I get together with anyone soon and they put that in their freaking msn name, they're gonna have something coming to them.

Love to me has different meanings.

You love your family, pets, food, and boy/girlfriends all differently.
