Please be patient with me, last time I was at Disney there were no Magic Bands.

Can I put money on my Magic Bands? Rather than link it to a credit card can I pay onto it somehow? Or could I purchase a Disney Gift card and link the Magic Band to it?

Also, can I pay our restaurant meals with our Magic Bands? We have reservations at Be Our Guest, Chef De France and California Grill.

Is there any place that I can't use my Magic Band to pay for things?

Last question is, I had heard that Magic Bands are easy to lose. Do they really come off easily?

I'm thinking of purchasing a cute Magic Band I saw online (Shop Disney Parks app) but I would hate to lose it.

When you check in to the resort, they ask for a credit card for charges but don't charge the card until you get to a certain limit. You can always go to the desk and pay off the charges before they run your credit card.

You can't put cash into a MagicBand. If you are staying onsite, you can charge purchases and meals back to your onsite room account via your MB. You can then apply the cash or giftcard to your room account at the Front Desk of your resort to decrease the balance owed.

If you are an onsite guest, you can use your MB to charge the meals to your room account.

So, I guess I could buy a Disney gift card and pay my room charges with it? I'd just like my entire vacation pre-paid, including meals & souvenirs.

We have not had a problem with losing them or having them come off. We generally fit them "snug" on the wrist, but not tight.

As for how easy they are to come off/be lost, here's what happened to us... Our first trip using them, we were at Indiana Jones at DHS. Left to go to a FP+ time at RnRC and DD realized her band was gone. We think it got caught in the door to a trash can and popped off when she threw something in. We re-traced our steps and couldn't find it. With FP window approaching, we explained to a CM and they were able to pull it up and allow us to ride. We then were heading to Epcot for the evening so we had to stop at Guest Services to get a card for entry/FP for the night. Then get a replacement band (the "dreaded" gray LOL!) from our hotel Guest Services. I have since learned that you can request a card I believe at hotel or any Guest Services in addition to the band so this would not have been an issue. It would have saved us a ton of time that night! We purchased our tickets through Undercover Tourist last 2 trips, so we have the card type and the bands. Now I carry the cards just in case!

When you check in you will need to put down a CC to create a room charge account. They used to, but do not anymore, have an option to just put a giftcard down up front. Now you need to put charges on the account and THEN put a GC onto the account to pay things off. So it's going to be a two step process.

Thanks for all the good info!

One more question... How many people pay for a different MB when they already have a free one? We'll be getting them sent, but I'm really tempted to get the Orange Bird one! Am I crazy to pay for one when I'm getting a free one?

We had our first experience with MB right after they came out. The best decision I made with them was NOT to make them smaller even for my young daughters. We found a lost MB every time we were in the pool and they were always ones that had been taken out of the outer layer for a child. Yes they were a little more bulky on my daughters' wrists, but they never came off unless we took them off. This certainly isn't a guarantee that they won't get knocked off somehow, but just an observation that we had.

We've put a lot of miles in at the parks wearing magic bands. Never lost one. They do not come off easily.

If you want to pay on your room charges with a gift card make sure you go by the desk before check out day. They will charge to the room in the wee hours on the day you check out.

They will also charge of you get near the resort charging limit. The limit varies based on resort category. They changed the limit last year. Deluxe are $2000. Not sure about the others.

Thanks for all the good info!

Of course, Disney wouldn't have them for sale, and keep making more, if folks didn't buy them.

I have a question about magic bands and payments. I know that when you checkin they take a credit card for everything you charge to the room via magic band... But what if you have multiple people in a room with different payments, can there be separate cards for each magic band? (Ex: roommate A gets a souvenir and doesn't want it to go on the total bill) Just hoping there's a way to avoid having to go through all the charges to see who owes what at the end.

As others have said, you will have to put a credit card on file, but it should not be charged until you reach the limit for the resort you are staying at. If you want to pay off the charges with a gift card you can go to the front desk at any time before the limit is reached and pay down the account. At the end of your stay be sure to pay off any charges with gift cards the night before you check out or your credit card will be charged sometime during the night.

Swan and Dolphin except at the Disney gift shop in the lobby, SOG, pressed penny machines, a few walk around vendors that don't have MB capabilities (e.g. castmembers selling water and snacks through some of the queue lines, cannot remember if the moving light up merchandise carts along the parade route can take MBs).

Last summer we attempted to purchase a light up toy for my son from a vendor. Unfortunately they didn't accept MB and we didn't have any cash with us. We were able to find an ATM and get cash out and I'm grateful as I'm sure my then 3 year old would have had a meltdown. (It was his first "present" in 8 days and he was so excited to finally get a toy.)

I'm wondering the same as I'll be traveling with my parents but will want to pay for my own things...

A couple places in disney springs don't use the magic band for payment. Also, sometimes a glitch happens and it won't work. To be on the safe side I always carry a credit card , gift card, or cash to be safe.

Yes, you can have a different credit card assigned to each person, or one card assigned to some and a different card assigned to others. We did this in September when my brother and sil and my son and dil were with us. Each couple had a different credit card for charging with the mbs.
