Lost!!!

I think one of the reasons they showed Ethan talking to N & P was because he made the comment about "the plane breaking in half over the island." The way he said it was like an observer and not someone who had lived through it. N & P got a funny look on their faces when he said that -- like the rest of N & P's story, it just showed that they saw/heard things that they did not relay to the rest of the group. Pretty much how useless they were because they were too wrapped up in themselves.

I don't believe for one minute that the N & P storyline was planned since season 1. :rotfl: Were that the case, they would have been there from the beginning and not had to have been added to the crash scenes.

Yes but they don't cast everyone right away. It would be inpossible.

In the podcast they said they thought of Nikki and Paulo at the end of season one. It would be insane to think that they have every actor who is ever going to appear and the entire series scripted before the pilot is even picked up.

They have outlines and story archs planned but cast actors as they go. They also aren't going to have people like the actors who play Rose and Bernard milling around with the extras on the days they aren't featured. That would be terribly cost-prohibitive.

They didn't have Anna Lucia or Eko there the first day either but they were obviously planning on having tale section survivors from the begining.

He didn't say they were planned from the beginning of season one. In fact, I just listened to that podcast again and they said their storyline was created towards the end of season one at "mini camp". Whatever that is.

ETA: RadioNate beat me to it.

Well that's pretty sad then. 1.5 years to mull it over and the best they could come up with for them was a filler episode. Adding them to the crash scenes to "prove" they were there was a dumb idea. It added nothing and their story could have been told without it. Locke supposedly yelled "stay away from there" at Nikki (although we obviously weren't shown that before because it didn't happen).

Well, I guess only time will tell. After watching 2+ seasons of Lost, I know to expect anything. And that the most obscure or inane piece of information turns out to be quite important later on. I have no doubt that Nikki and Paolo's story intertwines with the other characters on lost. We just might not see the conclusion until season 4 or 5.

Maybe they had more planned for them but after fan reaction to the characters they decided to make the diamonds storyline and kill them off quickly. That's plausible I guess.

Sure, in fact in the podcast, they mention that there was to be more planned for them(especially Nikki in episodes of Expose), but ended up scrapping quite a bit due to time constraints. If you listen to the podcasts, it becomes clear that the creators do listen to the fans. They were well aware of the fact that most people did not like how it seemed these characters were thrust upon us after 2 seasons. I wouldn't doubt that they had to change their game plan for Nikki and Paolo's story because of fan reaction.

Same thing happened with Ana-Lucia. She was supposed to have a bigger storyline but the fans HATED her. When they were discussing at the end of Season 1, all the interviews and articles mentioned this big romantic storyline. . . basically that Ana-Lucia was going to come in and mess with the dynamic of the Jack/Kate/Sawyer love triangle. Fans hated her so much (even after they tried to make her a more sympathetic character in her flashback about getting shot, losing a baby) that none of that ever materialized.

I for one am glad they don't have everything written in stone and listen to the fans for what works and what doesn't. Some things they brush off (I love when they start making fun of some of the fan complaints on the podcast or making jokes about how much meaning people lend to the wrong things. . . like the Hurley bird, LOL) but for legitimate complaints about what the fans like and don't like, they really listen and adjust the stories accordingly.
