LOST SEASON 3 **Official** Discussion/Speculation Thread (No Spoilers)

ONE problem....if you were stranded on a island you would want to be near the shore where you could signal a boat or a plane with ease if they passed. This could not be done from the houses. I personally, would stay on the beach.

But isn't the Others' camp near the shore too? It didn't seem that far a trip to the submarine. And they could always stay in the houses and post a couple people near the shore where the submarine was. I think if they don't stay there the real reason will be uneasiness about being there. The Others have never had a full out attack against the Losties on the beach, but if they stayed in the houses they'd probably always be worried about the Others coming back.

I have some thoughts about what may happen next too...if it makes any sense.

The Losties should be wondering why the Others left. Could it be because the Others knew something was going to happen to their camp? Maybe because they found out Locked entered 77 to signify an incursion by the "Hostiles?" If DHARMA (or whoever was arranging the supply drops) comes back after getting the 77 message, I wonder if they'll mistake the Losties for the Hostiles. Maybe that's what the Others want.

I have a thought about why Locke went with them too. Maybe Ben told Locke that by entering 77 DHARMA will come to the island and the Losties could get rescued. Locke doesn't want to leave the island, so it would make sense that he'd go with them in hiding because both they and he don't want to leave the island. The only thing that doesn't make sense is why Locke would tell Kate that the Others aren't forgiving. Could be that he's convinced that there's something special about staying on the island that the other Losties don't deserve?

Anyone think any of this makes any sense?

I like your theory about the Others knowing something's going to happen to the houses.

I did have another thought about why Locke went with them. They have his father. And he wants revenge.

JMO!

Why did Kate and Juliette wake up way before Jack and Sayid? I asked my DH what he thought about Juliette and he said she hasn't told the truth yet.
Could be because Kate and Juliet were outside, away from the sleeping gas and Jack and Sayid were still in the houses with it. They may have gotten a bigger dose.

The Hurley/Sawyer story was good. I don't trust Locke anymore than I trust the Others. I think he is only looking out for himself, why blow up the submarine? He can stay on the island if he wants, but he should not be making that choice for everyone else.

One theory I have going through my head is that he wants to "preserve" the island. What would happen if all the Others and all the survivors got out? Assuming they could find their way out, there's a chance they could find their way back in. Word would spread and scientists, media, just people in general would flock to the island - especially if people started reporting back some of the "miracles" that have happened on the island. It would just be overrun. Dharma was able to preserve all of these "mysterious" properties of the island by being extremely secretive about it. Just look at Juliet's flashback where it was sold originally as a research facility in Portland. Locke's primary concern is his connection to the island, and Damon and Carlton hinted as much by verifying Locke's meaning when speaking to Ben about the chicken. Basically that Ben may have been born on that island, but there are SO many modern conveniences that he has lost his connection with the island and THAT'S why he isn't healing. Locke wants ALL of that gone because all of those conveniences are interfering with the "power" that the island is capable of. At least, in Locke's mind.

Maybe they used the boats they used to get from one island to the other??

That's my guess as well. The boats could get them all around that little "bubble". . . but they apparently needed the sub to get to the outside world. Not sure why since Michael could leave with the boat and a compass. . . and we've been told to assume that he made it. :confused3 There must be something more to that story.

That was probably one of the best episodes ever. Again though answered some questions and left us with even more.

When the plane was coming down, did I hear Ben say "Good One"?

No, Goodwin - he was the blond other that was with the Tailies.

All I have to say is.....

OMG

I'll join you in that.

So many questions. We now know that Ben's tumor was discovered before the plane crashed. Do you guys think they made the plane crash? I'm thinking yes, since there was a spinal surgeon and 2 pregnant women on the plane. The only thing that confuses me is how could they have known the people they wanted to survive would:confused3

I'm thinking Juliet is playing both sides of the fence. I do believe she wants to get off the island, as we saw in the flashbacks, but she may still feel the only way to get off is to please Ben. On the other hand, I do believe she has feelings for Jack, so I don't know if she can go through with Ben's plan. Should be interesting.

I think she may still turn on Ben.

Yep - they don't hand you answers like that unless there's more to the story. She's certainly not doing it to HELP Ben . . . there's more to it. Either she was promised another way out, or she has other plans to bring Ben down.

SUCH a good episode. I still need to process it all before I start analyzing. But for now, I think my favorite part had to be calling Sawyer and Sayid out. LOVED that. She played that so well - tough in front of the guys, but you saw her crack a little as she walked away. The tough girl thing is a front, you can tell she's still scared and unsure of herself when no one's looking.

The scene with Mikhail reveals that they didn't know who was on the plane or even where it was from before it crashed so I don't think they caused it to crash. I still believe that was an accident caused by Desmond when he left the hatch to follow Kelvin.

I do believe that Ben thinks the "Island" was providing for him in his time of need by causing a spinal surgeon to fall from the sky and maybe since Juliet was running out of pregnant women the "Island" also provided Claire. As for Sun...I don't think the others know she is pregnant yet but who knows for sure.

Who Is Jacob?
Jacob is the "Him" that the Others have been talking about since very early on. We still don't know and even in podcasts, Damon and Carlton dodge questions about whether we've seen Jacob yet or not. The assumption is that Jacob is the ultimate leader of whatever the heck is going on.
