LOST SEASON 3 **Official** Discussion/Speculation Thread (No Spoilers)

My DD13 wanted to know why Mikhail was able to go through the fence before his brain fried but the fence stopped the smoke monster like it was a brick wall???
Well that's easy. Mikhail is a solid body. The monster is just a gas. :rotfl:

I'm kind of going back and forth about Juliet.

As much as I want to like Juliet, a lot of signs point to her being in on something...like having the key. I also wonder if those flashes of light were her "communicating" somehow with the smoke monster.

I too am going back and forth. Part of me wants to trust her since she seems to this "geniune" streak about her that other Others (LOL!) don't have, that we've seen at least, except maybe Alex. But then it's VERY reminiscent of last season when Ana Lucia played victim and had herself tossed down in the hole to get info from Sawyer, Michael and Jin. In a strange twist, Locke echoed a line from that episode when he yelled, "coming out" after speaking to Kate. I don't know if that was supposed to be a very subtle hint to use that episode as a frame of reference for this one, or what.

We were trying to figure out the flashes here and MY take was that we've never seen it from that perspective before. I thought it seemed like we were seeing everything sorta from the perspective of the smoke monster. Before we saw it from a completely separate POV, viewing as an outsider. With Eko (specifically that first encounter when we saw the flashes from his past) it was seemingly from Eko's point of view, we were seeing what Eko was seeing in the smoke. And going back to that, each time a new image came up there were little flashes. So, for this episode I'm thinking if we ARE seeing it from the smoke monster's POV, those flashes are brighter since they aren't dulled by looking through all that "smoke" . ..we're seeing it from the source. And if that's the case, I wonder what Juliet saw from her past?

I loved this episode but....I'm so confused as to why Kate and Juliet were stuck together, running around. I know she said they left her and that she didn't reveal the key because she wanted her to think they were in it together BUT she also knew everyone was gone, she knew Jack and Syid were left behind and where they were so why was she tied to kate and in the woods then? All that time in the woods seemed like a waste of time. I just didn't get it. After all that she ended up going back to the village and showing Kate where they were and then they all leave together at the end. I found it strange.

Still not sure if we can trust Juliet. It did look like Kate was a bit jealous when Jack asked where Juliet was.

I thought Locke was acting it up just a bit with Kate... I think he was playing it up for the Others and trying to make them think that he is 100% on board with whatever they want him for. I think that he'll end up surprising Kate and showing up to help them again at some point. I think he's curious about the Others, but I think he's still loyal to the Losties and will do something to help them at some point.

I haven't liked Locke for a while, but you're probably right.

As for Juliet and Kate, it was probably Juliet that locked them together in the first place. But she probably couldn't have carried Kate out there by herself, so either she was gassed too and they were both carried (but then why would she have the key?) or she had help. What I can't figure out is why Juliet wanted (or pretended to want) to leave Jack back at the compound. Maybe she figured that he'd wake up and he and Sayid would get out too, but there's probably more to it. And if the others just wanted to get away, they didn't have to send Kate and Juliet into the jungle to do that. And why weren't Jack and Sayid left out there too? There had to be a reason why the others and/or Juliet wanted Kate in the jungle. Was it to see something or test her somehow? I also think that Juliet's plan was probably to go back to the houses all along and she knew that Kate would go back to get Jack. So the big question is why did the others leave and what do they want Kate, Sayid and Jack (if he isn't in on something too) to do. I'm also wondering what happened to Rousseau.

I hope that Sayid really grills Juliet in the next episode and we get some believable answers about her. Right now, Sayid is one of the only characters that I really trust. It's ironic and kind of cool that one of the most likable characters is Iraqi.

I also would have liked to see the conversation where the others told Locke everything they knew about Kate. With that (and having seen his father) I hope he asked how they know so much.

Finally (I know there's a lot here) I think that this is another episode that suggested that redemption and forgiveness are a couple big themes of the show. That might support the theory that maybe all the losties are dead already and need something before they can leave this world. It doesn't answer how they had so many connections before coming to the island though.

I found this interesting info from lost.cubit.net. They always have great screencaptures of things I always miss!

Description: Smokey returns in Episode 3x15, "Left Behind". This time, Smokey is chasing after Kate and Juliet. In an encounter with the two, Smokey does something we really haven't seen to date. He flashes bright lights in Juliet's face. This seems different than the scanning we saw with Eko.

Also, when Smokey appears at the fence, we see Smokey emerge from several pieces that join together to form one big smokey. When Smokey runs away, he appears to break into two pieces.

Interestingly, as Smokey approaches the fence, there are three large "heads" that are very noticeable. Could this be confirmation that Smokey is indeed the "Cerberus" mentioned on the Blast Door Map? Is it possible that Smokey is comprised of three separate entities that are capable of joining together, or working independently. Could this explain why sometimes we hear the clackety-clak noises of a roller coaster when Smokey appears, and sometimes we don't?

What do you think?

I too am having trouble figuring out the Kate and Juliet thing in the woods.
I really like Juliet but it didn't make sense if she is the one that handcuffed herself to Kate then why were they so far into the woods. Surely Juliet didn't move Kate that far out by herself. What purpose does it serve and why would she purposefully leave Jack? Doesn't make sense.

I loved the Hurley/Sawyer thing.

If the others are gone why don't the lost ones move into their houses?

I was thinking that too, but then I was thinking maybe that's what the others want them to do. Like trying to lure them there, not sure though.

Makes sense - which would be why Juliet made a big deal about "saving" her & Kate from the smoke monster by activating the shield. If I were in that situation - having been there 3 months and seen people die because of the monster, I'd prefer to live in a house with protection than live on the beach.

I enjoyed last night's episode too. But last week we saw Locke's dad tied up and sitting in a room and this week...nothing!:headache:

Yes, I'm curious too. All we know is, Locke saw his dad tied up, and next thing we know he's movin' out with the Others. I really wonder what happened.

I loved the story of "rotund" Hurley tricking Sawyer into being nice, and the way Sawyer dug it in the end. Pulling for the cute bad guy to go good is an old favorite story line. :)

But I do so look forward to his nickname restriction being over!!!

If the others are gone why don't the lost ones move into their houses?

They're probably going to end up splitting the Losties - remember in the first season when Jack wanted them all to move to the cave because it was safer and near water, etc., and some of them moved and some stayed on the beach. Same thing will probably happen here. Once they get back to the beach with Juliet and the rest hear about the houses, I'm betting Claire, the baby and Charlie will want to move, Sun and Jin, too, maybe Hurley. I don't think Sawyer, Kate, Sayid or Jack will move to the houses.

You can bet if the Others left, they made sure there wasn't anything left in the houses that the Losties could use to get off the island and/or find out where the Others went.

My question is....where did the Others go??? I thought Locke blew up the sub which was the only way off and on the island. I am w/ Sayid...why bring Juliette?? They can't trust her! I hoped he gets some info out of her and fast!

Maybe they used the boats they used to get from one island to the other??

Always more questions than answers on this show but I love it!

I answered this question a page back....

No, Not a chance..but I don't think it's "because it makes sense" that they will not. The DW said they should just go get the stuff and live in the houses. ONE problem....if you were stranded on a island you would want to be near the shore where you could signal a boat or a plane with ease if they passed. This could not be done from the houses. I personally, would stay on the beach.

I think I heard/read it will be a couple more weeks before we know about the Lock/dad stuff.

Here's my BIG problem with this episode. NO WAY would two women start the hike back to the beach without hitting the bathroom first. I'm sorry...treck through the hot steamy jungle covered in mud, when you can take 10 minutes and pop in the shower??? Come on...... :lmao:

I agree with you! Jack did say at the end something about "grab what we can", so I don't think they were immediately leaving. But why would they leave right away? Why not sleep in beds & leave in the morning when they're sure to have enough daytime to cross the island?

Why did Kate and Juliette wake up way before Jack and Sayid? I asked my DH what he thought about Juliette and he said she hasn't told the truth yet.

The whole backstory was a waste of time. They did the same thing with Kate's mother before, when Kate went to see her in the hospital. The only thing we learned is that Kate knows the mother of Sawyer's daughter, but she doesn't know that yet, and maybe never will. Big whoop.

The Hurley/Sawyer story was good. I don't trust Locke anymore than I trust the Others. I think he is only looking out for himself, why blow up the submarine? He can stay on the island if he wants, but he should not be making that choice for everyone else.
