LOST SEASON 3 **Official** Discussion/Speculation Thread (No Spoilers)

What I don't understand is this:
The Others are apparently getting food drops or supplies or something from someone. They have all of the "creature comforts," such as clothing, food, books, appliances, etc. so there must be someone on the outside, no? Plus, the world series video was fairly current. Even the food that Juilette brought Jack-- how would they have access to that kind of food? So why wouldn't Ben be able to get medical treatment for his tumor?:confused3

Here's the deal as I see it, the Others demanded that Michael bring Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Hurley in order to get Walt back. We're not sure why they wanted them at that time BUT while all this is going on Locke destroys the computer so no one can push the button, the sky turns purple and the Swan is destroyed. Now since the others have been through something like this before (when Desmond pushed the button late causing the plane to crash)...they know how it effects their communications with the outside and they are virtually cut off. Ben now decides instead of doing whatever they were going to do to Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Hurley that he now needs Jack to do the operation. At least that's my take on it.

AND, why on earth were those men shooting at Sawyer and Kate? #1 they're on an island so how far could they get (not to mention, where could they possibly go except to the other island), #2 what would they gain by killing Kate and Sawyer? I guess I'm getting to where I am starting to say to myself "what's the POINT here?":headache:

And has anyone else asked themselves "WHO IS CARL?"

The guy shooting at Sawyer and Kate was Colleen's husband or significant other. Colleen was the woman shot on the sail boat and he's angry. He blames her death on our survivors and well Sawyer doesn't really help the situation much with his attitude so he saw an opportunity for an "eye for an eye" and he took it.

Yep - it's about vengeance and a personal vendetta, not necessarily the "Dharma Initiative" master plan. Danny's had it out for Sawyer since Colleen was shot.

Although Juliet did give the order to stop them, kill them if they had to. I don't know if it's to keep information away from the people still on the beach or what. I guess we'll find out in a year or two, LOL.

Ben said that he was born on the island, could be he can't leave there.

Or lets say this is some sort of time warp thing and when they leave the island they can only go back to the time they came from. Could be that Ben is from a differant time in which they would not have the ability to operate on the tumor.

Yea!! Somebody else shares my time warp theory!

I think I need to watch it again. I missed all those details, lol. I agree there is something to do with time control on the island. I've missed so many past episodes that I think I need to buy the DVD's. I got the season 1 for Christmas. I'm still trying to figure out the polar bears in the first season.

Can anyone tell me what happened when Desmond was talking to Penny's father? It cut in right after they showed the whisky bottle and ended as he said "If you're not good enough to drink my whisky how can you be good enough for my daughter?". I get the jist of it but what exactly happened? Thanks!

Something happened...37 minutes in my DVR recording "froze" I fast forwarded 30 seconds and it was fine...it was right after the white haired lady said "That is why you turned the fail safe key." :confused3

You didn't miss much. Penny's father told him that the scotch was named after a famous admiral (I think...it may have been some other military leader) and was very expensive. It looked like the father was going to pour Desmond a drink too but he didn't. He poured himself one and then said what you heard.

Free4Life- Which part was that? When he talked to her inside the shop or when they went outside?

Aren't you glad I didn't say he explained the entire show in that one minute?

So, is Desmond really Bill Murray? :lmao:

That was a great episode - it really lived up to its advanced billing. But, now, so many more questions.

Not sure the exact point you're talking about but I'll do an overview of that whole lil thing and hope I hit what you missed, LOL. In the store Desmond said he'd buy the ring and she immediately told him no, that's not how it goes - he has second thoughts, he leaves, he breaks up with Penny, etc. They leave and go outside to buy chestnuts and she comments on a man's red shoes. Desmond asks why, and she says, "it's just an interesting fashion choice worth noting" or something like that. A minute later a scaffolding falls and when the look, the red shoes are sticking out and Desmond realizes she knew it was going to happen and asks her why she didn't stop it. She explains that basically if she had stopped it, it'd be something tomorrow and if she stops it tomorrow it'll be something else the next day. The universe has a way of catching up. She pretty much tell him that even though he's arguing that he has a choice, that he has to break Penny's heart, he has to go to the island and he has to press the button to save the world - it's the only great thing he'll ever do.

Did I get the right part?

LOL, I don't know to tell you the truth- I can catch the replay next week and then I'd know all the answers ;) JK, I'd hate to have my LOST spoiled for me!

Yeah it was really weird...it was sort of like on a DVD how it just stops and you have to fast-forward...I only missed about 20 seconds.

I was a little bored during this episode...I thought they could have sped it up a little bit. I mean it was interesting to know, but when he turned the key did he actually do back in time? Or did he just "dream?" And also HOW does he suddenly have these "flashes?" I'm guess this is some sort of time-space continum thing...Quantam physics..Back to the future. I have no clue LOL.

The failsafe was actually a Flux Capacitor!:lmao:

I really liked the episode. It is moving closer to answers in a way...time has be involved somehow.

It could have been a dream I guess...where he was remembering his past but adding in memories of the island. But when Desmond picks up the picture at the end...were there other things there from the bar? Was the dartboard from the bar or had that been in the hatch?

I'm pretty sure the dartboard was in the hatch. But I could be wrong - might be one of those things you think you remember, LOL.

I loved this episode - as always it opened up a whole new set of questions, but very interesting questions to ponder!

I'm wondering if that woman was once on the island? Seems odd that she has the same "power" that Desmond has. I wonder if we'll see more of her in the future. And the Charlie twist at the end was good!

I thought they were going to explain how Desmond became clairvoyant. If they did, I must have missed it.

I think they tried to explain that he saw everything that's going to happen when he saw his "life" flash, but only in bits and pieces and he only remembers them when something triggers the memory.

At least that's what I got out of it.

I thought they were going to explain how Desmond became clairvoyant. If they did, I must have missed it.

I think the implication is that turning the key did it to him...but who knows?
