We made flight reservations months ago for our September trip. We had our seat assignments made and paid for. Today I thought I would check to make sure flights had not changed. Found out that all four flights had been changed. We had seat assignments for 3 of the four flights but one leg they had no seats avaialble. They told us that there are seats saved that will open up the day of our flight and we will get a seat then. My adult son takes meds to fly and we always make sure we are sitting together to make sure he is doing ok. Have talked to the airline 3 times now and they told me that they made a note in the reservation and that they will put us all together and not to worry. I can't help thinking that I will get there and they won't have any idea of my conversation with the airlines letting them know our situation. Do you think I should be concerned. Also..They never sent an e-mail or phone call letting us know of this change.

It's United, the flights will likely change a few more times before sept. they usually finalize the schedule and send out the updates about 3 weeks prior to departure. Otherwise you would likely get updated itineraries weekly, most with 2-5 min changes. I recommend just pop online periodically to check for changes. Check in online when your within 24 hrs of departure you should be able to access the rest of the seats at that point. Even if you don't get all the seats together do the best you can and the gate agents will do what they can to accommodate once your there. Don't lose sleep over it. There are usually a few solo passengers willing to change seats so parents and children can sit together.

on short notice a lot without a seat assignment. The site will show seats assigned at the gate. I have never been bumped. I receive offers to be bumped.

I don't have the issue with having to sit with someone. I suggest you get to the airport early and approach the gate as soon as possible. Upgrades will start to happen probably 30-45 minutes before boarding which may help if there are issues.

I hate sitting in the middle seat, but when your reservation is made a day or two before, that is often the seat assignment. I have had a lot of luck getting a better seat by just approaching the gate and asking nicely.

Good luck. I'm confident it will work out.

Thanks for the information. I'm not great with change but am trying to get better with that. I will check in 24 hours ahead of our flight and hope that we will get seats together.
