I was discussing M&M colors with my son last night.... (yeah, I know - you all wish you led the exciting life I live.)

And I told him when *I* was growing up, they were very Three's Company-ish colors. Orange, Tan, Brown, Yellow and (I think) Green. He was a bit shocked.

I then went on to tell him Fruit Loops, Fruity Pepples and Trix - were all only Pink/Red, Orange and Yellow. And no fancy shapes for Trix - balls only. And Apple Jacks? Only Orange....

And Whatchamacallit's - they were caramel free. Just that yummy crunchy stuff, covered in chocolate. I have always missed the old whatcha's.

Can you think of any other lost foods - things that have changed - for the good or for the bad?

They have whatchamacallits in Pennsylvania!!

We have Whatchamacallit's - they just have caramel in them.

I like the pre-caramel days. :thumbsup2

No one recalls any missing / changed foods?

How about Dunkin Donuts cereal??? :teeth:

I miss Marathon candy bars!!

And, yep, I remember the days of no red M&M's. Or blue for that matter.

Well, these aren't lost, but they have new company now - Lucky Charms were just "pink hearts, yellow moons, orange stars, green clovers and blue diamonds." I remember vividly when they first introduced purple horseshoes into the mix!

I wish they had continued the dark chocolate M&Ms; wish they had not been a limited edition item. Although not old, by any stretch of the imagination, I still miss them...

Remember Crystal Pepsi, "New" Coke (then they had to come out with Coca-Cola "Classic"), and Surge? How about the 3-D Doritos? Those didn't last long.

What about the three cereals: Frankenberry, ****erry, and Count Chocula? Only the Count one remains (at least in these parts).

Cheyita - I remember the purple horseshoe intro, too!!!! does that mean we are getting old???

What about McDLT?

Crystal Pepsi: :scared: So Gross!

I remember when they had voting for the new M&M color (blue, piunk or purple). I wanted purple so bad.

Does anyone remember IT soda (from Sheetz)?

Oh, I forgot the McLean and Arch Deluxe from McDonalds.

I remember the McLean. It was pretty good considering it was made partially of seaweed. :teeth:

I was watching a show on the Food Network that had a segment on an online grocer that specializes in hard to find and regional items. All of the things they sell are still in production, but some are very hard to find. Here's the link in case anyone is interested: http://www.hometownfavorites.com/shop/htfg.asp

I'm sure no one even remembers this but when I was little there used to be a restaurant chain called "Burger Chef" and there were characters called Burger Chef and Jeff. I was probably around 7 or 8, and it had to be around 1978 ish?

It was like a pre-McDonalds chain and they used to give out kids meals with toys. I remember I used to love that place.

Unfortunately - yeah, I guess so. My kids are amazed that I lived in a time where we didn't have our own inventory of movies to watch whenever we wanted and we had to wait until the "Wizard of Oz" or "Charlie Brown's Christmas" were being shown on network.

Not to hijack the thread though...

We still have Frankenberry out here. In fact, we almost bought it the other day because I was telling DD how it used to be my favorite cereal.

Oh lord, I totally got kicked out of school over the M&M's controversy. I was passing around a petition to bring back the tan M&M's and get rid of those godawful blue ones. Well, in class I wouldn't shut up about it, and the teacher ended up hitting me over the head with a notebook. Someone told the principal, and I got kicked out of school for three days, while they investigated her.

Every year the students would stack M&M's on her desk while she wasn't looking.

And every year my parents fill my room with blue M&M stuff before I come home on leave.

Pepperidge Farms Cappuccino cookies - coffee flavored cookies sandwiched around chocolate/hazelnut filling. They just disappeared off the shelf one day about 10-12 years ago and have never returned. :sad2: They were my favorite favorite flavor of Pepperidge Farms cookies.

I think my parents still have some glasses that they used to give away. I know for CERTAIN that they still have the Popeye set of glasses from the Red Barn - another classic burger joint put under by the clown!

Isn't that SO TRUE! We were out with some very young 20-somethings the other night and were talking about movies. Hubby and I were discussing about our first date being to see the movie Risky Business. As we were talking, the young guy looks at us and says "Oh, you mean you saw it in a movie theater?"

Um... we had to explain that only rich folk owned VCRs in those days and there weren't movie rental places on every corner. In fact, it was rare that a movie got released on VHS in those olden days!!!

Wasn't the Burger Chef chain taken over by Burger King????? I seem to remember something about that....not sure. I LOVEd burger Chef though!!

I also remember and MISS the marathon candy bar...I LOVE caramel!!! I think it is available in Canada

When I was little I remember red M&M's and then them being pulled due to the dye, (or something like that).

I also miss Barnone candy bar. It was chocolate waffers with chocolate in between and then topped with crushed peanuts then dipped in chocolate. It was my all time favorite and then it just disappeared.
