From the February 13-19 TV Guide (US). They mentioned Lost in several articles.

It looks like the tricksters behind ABC's Lost are finally ready to reveal what caused Oceanic Flight 815 to nose-dive onto that creepy island. There's just one catch: It'll cost ya about $39.99. Cocreator Damon Lindelof says the show's first-season DVD, due in early September, will likely include a mini-movie that explains "why the plane may have crashed." The highly anticipated discs will also feature exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of the Boeing 747 being cut up in the Mojave Desert, a look at what went into making the original polar bear sequence and a treasure trove of never-before-seen footage -including one scene between Locke and young Walt (shown below with his father Michael) that Lindelof says was excised because "we felt it gave away too much."

=================================

My theory is that the plane crashed because the island has an unusual magnetic or atmospheric field. Perhaps the experiments that the French woman and her scientific expedition were conducting affected the plane.

I also think bad Ethan was a front man for the beast in the jungle, or for it's creator. Now that Ethan has been killed (for now at least), whoever or whatever else is on the island will have to make itself known if it really wants the baby. Claire's baby is central to the story, perhaps even part of the reason the plane went down. I see a cliff hanger coming up for the end of Season One.

I think Jin does suspect that Sun speaks English. I also think Jin speaks English. There's a Jin-centric episode coming up and I wouldn't be surprised if we learn he does.

This is what I thought last night too. He was baiting and testing his wife. Just when I thought they were looking like they were really in love. I think he speaks english too, I kept waiting for him to yell at Charlie for rambling last night.

I yelled at the TV several times. The first, when Ethan showed up, I was yelling, "run Charlie run!!!". Then when he was chasing Claire, I was yelling at everyone. "someone shoot him", "where are the others" "someone help Jack" "alright Jack" and finally I was cheering out loud when Charlie shot him. He's right, Ethan would have told them nothing, but I sure would like to know what the heck he wanted with Claire. I sure hope she gets her memory back, and remembers how much she liked Charlie, and how protective he was of her.

Just when I think Sawyer is turning somewhat decent, they show the previews for next weeks show. What's up with Sawyer this time???

I don't think Ethan or Scott will be miraculously healed, otherwise the Marshall and the woman who drowned would be around still too.

Crud -- I missed part of the show. Who was Scott?

Thanks!
Ginny

Didn't Sawyer say something about getting even? My take is....the guy who had an affair with his mother was Jacks dad....he had a run-in with him at the bar the night Jack's dad died, and thats why Sawyer ended up going off to the police station when Boone was there. He's after Jack due to what his father did to him.

So, I'm probably way off, but who knows.

Ethan killed Scott.........Ethan said he would kill a person every day until he got Claire back...........

What a great thread! I guess I should have gotten on board a long time ago. I too feel that Jin can speak English. As with all speculation with this show only time will tell (We hope)

OK, you're right. I forgot that Jack dropped his gun and I'm not sure why because I kept hoping Claire would pick it up and shoot Ethan in the leg or something.

I actually thought this was a good episode. I haven't been disappointed in many of them, though.

Did anyone else think it was weird when Jin asked Sun if she thought Claire was going to be ok, then he said what about the baby? The way he and Sun looked at each other and the way Sun answered him just seemed strange. I'm probably reading too much into this, but it sort of stuck with me.

I'm reading into it right along with you. I thought, hmmmmm...they know something!

They almost seemed to concerned..........maybe their in on it ...........you never know who's good or who's bad.......

Count me amoung those who think Jin speaks English too. Also, in the re-runs, I picked up things that I missed the first time around about Ethan. When Claire had her "nightmare" that someone was trying to inject something into her stomach, Ethan was one of the 4 or 5 faces right there when she woke up. Also, when Hurley was doing his census, Ethan said that he was from Ontario (possibly "French" Canadian?!?)

You might be onto something. I had read that in future episodes the castaways will learn that some of their lives had been intertwined before the crash. For example, Sawyer and Boone both being at the jail at the same time.

This just makes things more interesting I think. But I'm still linking everything together(who's next for flashbacks/backstory? I want to know more about Sayid and Charlie)

Wait a second - Did I miss something?

I thought when Sawyer and Boone were both at the Police station they were in France?!? Didn't Shannon say she lived with a guy in the south of France - or was the flashback episode a different guy than they story she tells about knowing French? I do keep waiting for the explanation about them both being at the police station - and I guess it makes more sense that they were in Austrailia - but now I am confused.

My $.02 - I think Jin speaks English. I think they may have been pregnant at one time - or Sun was pregnant and didn't tell Jin because she realized what type of work he was doing for her father. I don't think they were going to adopt a baby - remember, that story is likely false - made up by the psychic to get Claire on the plane.

Just a thought.....maybe all the survivors lives have crossed each other in the past and they don't realize it. Somehow they are all connected to each other someway.........Hummm

If you are talking about Sawyer in the preview for next week I'd like to say that I don't believe when he said "It's payback time" that he is talking about Jack. I've read other sites and heard about a wild boar...I think the producers are being deceptive in the preview and the gun and pay back are about the boar, not Jack. Their obvious dislike of each other really has everything to do with Kate and the connection with Jack's dad is not really going to be something awful IMHO. But we'll have to wait and see. I just wanted to get that out there before other theories popped up.

My take on the episode:

I totally think Jin suspects Sun can speak English & the whole conversation about the baby was him trying to get her to slip up & reveal that she speaks English. And, I think Jin can speak English as well!

I was disappointed to see Charlie kill Ethan. Yeah, the chances that Ethan would've talked is slim, but I'm sure they could've gotten something out of him (maybe Sayid could've helped in that dept)

Man, I love this show!

But who was Scott? I don't remember him. Was he one of the "extra" folks who we see, but don't really have any lines?

Thanks!
Ginny

Yes..he was just a random extra.

When Sawyer was talking in the preview for next week about payback, I thought it showed him pointing a gun at Sayid, so I figured he was talking about the torture.

Scott was one of the random extras. I think he was the one who saw Hurley and the others when they first built the golf course and asked "can I play?"

Regarding Ethan -- I've read, either here or somewhere else, that Ethan Rom is an anagram for "other man" as well as "the manor" and "more than." Danielle talked about "the others". And last night when he picked up Charlie by the neck -- okay, maybe I've read too many comic books (and some might theorize the same about Walt :p ), but it struck me as maybe he was stronger than normal, almost superhuman or "more than" human. Walt certainly seems more than human, considering the bird, the polar bears, the reaction of his stepfather, and the way he hit the tree with the knife.

Could the island be the home of some sort of experiments, either by some government agency reverse engineering technology from extraterrestrials (going back to the comic book, which involves an alien) to increase human potential, and the black rock Claire dreamed of is their HQ? Or am I waaay off?

****Potential Spoiler for those who don't want to know. Hilight to read:
02/04 - Details of Sawyer's troubled past surface in flashbacks focusing on a sleazy con artist (Robert Patrick, "The X-Files") that are interwoven with Sawyer's hunt for a boar. Kate accompanies him on the search for a creature he believes has it in for him. Source: TitanTV
01/30 - Could it be the fact that Sawyer encountered Jack's dad before the latter's death (and may even possibly be involved in said death)? Scenes with both Sawyer and Jack's dad were filmed at The Harbor Pub in Wikiki. Source: Lost TV (Thanks to Dom's_Gurl for the tip.)
01/21 - Kate and Sawyer divulge dark secrets to each other while tracking a renegade boar that Sawyer swears is purposely harassing him. Meanwhile, Hurley and Sayid worry that Charlie is losing it after his brush with death, and a shocking, prior connection between Sawyer and Jack is revealed. Robert Patrick ("Terminator 2: Judgment Day," "The X-Files") guest stars. Source: ABC
12/23 - Sawyer has a second flashback episode. There will also be a scene in it that will blow the LOYAL viewer's minds (why they say loyal, I don't know). Source: The Fuselage (Thanks Arkaina for the tip.)
01/29 - There will definitely be death before the end of the year, and it won't be a dream," JJ Abrams says of Lost. "And it's not going to be a new character that comes on and all of a sudden dies in that episode. Maggie tells me that her "love life is heating up. And also what Locke and Boone find is a pretty amazing storyline." Source: Kristin on E!Online
01/26 - The pilot (played by Alias' Greg Grunberg) returns in the season finale. I'm thinking we might get to see what happened on that doomed plane pre-liftoff. Source: Ask Ausiello @ TVGuide

So I think you're right about Sawyer and the gun being a tease. He's after a boar.
I also think Jin can speak English. There seems to be a flicker of understanding when they say something funny or outrageous to him.
