I have a small child and when I go on vacation I write my phone number in permanent marker on the back of his leg. It stays on most of the trip, and it isn't in the photos. When its cold, I put my phone number on tape and put it on his back.

No, its not a danger to put your phone number out there, what IS a bad idea is putting your childs name on their shirt. A predator can call them by their name, tricking them into believing they know them.Thats not a safe thing to do put your numbers so strangers to see put it where strangers can not see
Is that all you have to do to get a persons info from their cell phone number? I have tried and tried to get info from peoples' cell numbers, but I have not been able to get info from the internet [for free]. I'm going to try that in the future. You are ok with putting you phone number on the child as long as the number is unlisted. If it is listed then all they have to do is google the number and they know where you live. I think the dog tag idea is brilliant. There are several stores in DTD that have custom dog tag machines. You could get a Disney dog tag...
My youngest son DS3 has autism and he does best with the safety tats. He won't let me write on him and he likes the tatoos-they stay on really well even after swimming and baths. We put the safety tats on his arm. The tats I have for him read, "I have non-verbal autism" and my cell phone number.
Another safety thing I do with him besides a back-pack leash (that baby ain't goin' no where!) is buy the brightest shoes I can find. He likes crocs so I will get him pairs that are red or neon orange. This way I can see his feet in a crowd by looking down since he is little and there is no way I could find him around a tall group of adults.
Have fun, be safe everyone!

Where do you get these tatoos? I work with children who have autism and I would love to be able to tell their parents about these. Thanks!
I bought some write-on ones (like a sticker) online at www.safetytat.com. I haven't tried them yet though. The regular "tatoo" types ones can be custom printed. They have several ones for autism under "Original Safety Tats" then "Special Needs".

What I do not agree with is the kids names being embroidered on everything and shown big as day on their bodies. Its not imporatant for an adult helpful or not helpful to know your KIDS name, they should know their PARENTS name so they don't go with the wrong people claiming your children.
The kids we saw had little ID tags on their lanyards with a picture of their parents with their parents name name and number. I thought that was great. What is worse than your children getting lost? Having someone else claim them and no one think anything of it to stop them.![]()
