Losing weight...

Jay, you got the motivation, that's most of the way. I lost 100 lbs in 2005, after being big forever and ever, and getting that motivation was the hardest step. I'm proud of you. :):cheer2:

SOOOOOOOOOO happy for you!! :thumbsup2

Well done! Keep it up.

I'm 20 lbs lighter than I was at this time last year, but, all of my clothing is too small/tight since I seem to be very differently proportioned now. It's an odd combination and it leaves me wondering what weight I'd be if not pregnant.

But, my focus on the next few months is simply lots of protein, variations in diet, no gluten and consistent slow weight gain. I'm determined not to freak out about weight gain since I know that I need to do it. I was freaking out for awhile because I was losing weight for the first 8 weeks of my pregnancy and I thought that was dangerous. Now, I'm just going to keep eating well and let what happens, happen.

I lost about 10 pounds my first trimester, but I gained it all back plus another 30 on top of it. DS's birth weight was only 7 lbs. so I probably didn't need all of that excess.

I have a very bad habit of eating a HUGE bowl of ice cream every night. I realized those bowls of ice cream average 600 calories each. :scared1: I have gone the past 3 nights with no ice cream, so that's 1800 calories I didn't consume. That has to count for something. I'll be interested to see how long it takes to see a difference on the scale. I am lazy so I am not good at making "lifestyle" changes.

Keep up the good work. It's all about changing habits and eating healthy, whole foods. Shop at the perimeter of the grocery store. No processed foods, especially sugars and corn syrup, which seem to be EVERYWHERE these days. No soda (even diet); after a couple of days you won't miss it. Stay away from "white" food (breads and rice), learn to love grains and beans. Above all, eat small portions slowly, and only until you're semi-satisfied. It takes a while to register fullness.

I knew there was a reason I liked you! Ice cream at night is my downfall too!! Although I haven't had any the last 2 nights. Not b/c I'm giving it up or to lose weight, just too lazy to stop at the store and pick some up! :rotfl2:

Great going, OP! Glad you're doing so well!

It's very frustrating to lose weight when you have a thyroid condition. My metabolism is super low even with thyroid meds. I can look at a piece of cake and gain weight!

Yeah, a big part of my last 4 nights without ice cream is because we are OUT of ice cream. :rotfl2: DS goes through GALLONS of ice cream but he will only eat plain vanilla. I have no problem leaving that alone, so we can have it on hand and it's not an issue. Of course when we run out of "other" ice cream DH will usually go buy some and I eat it.

Not a fan of plain vanilla. I only eat it if it's all we have and if we have some chocolate syrup or something to put on it.

He refuses to eat any other kind of ice cream. No sauce, no sprinkles, no flecks of vanilla bean, PLAIN. And of course that makes servers at WDW crazy, because they want to dress it up for him. :rotfl2:

No more ice cream talk, please. I already feel bad enough right now. :( There's a local place that makes homemade ice cream and it's pumpkin season... I don't need another reason to go out and get ice cream-drunk. Thanks. :)

Ice cream is not what I dream about. Lactose Intolerance and soy ice cream = going without!

I'm not having a good night... as a result, I ordered a pizza... but I ordered a small one... and a large salad. I figure I'll eat the salad first, and then have 1-2 slices of pizza and should be good... I hope. We'll see. :(

As predicted, my resident saboteurs insisted on going out for ice cream after dinner last night. Which I suppose is better than buying a big container to keep in the house. DH will probably buy a big container today or tomorrow.

You are so right! At home we are very much about our garden, food from the local farmers and the rest we have to get we shop around the store! I agree with the no Pop ..... I tried for awhile saying tht I gave up soda (because we call it Pop!) but one day I decided that drinking that made no sense with the rest of the way we eat. So I simply stopped drinking it. (That was 30 weeks ago) This coming from a person who would panic in the morning without (much like some do w/o coffee).

Now my tradition of an ice cream sandwich and a coke for breakfast at the Animal Kingdom....... not sure what I am going to do.

Now the beer thing.......That is not going to change.:)

Edited to say: It is funny how processed foods really begin to taste fake and full of chemicals after a bit of eating real food.

I switched to diet soda a year or so ago. I don't drink a whole lot of soda overall - one every couple of days. I am more likely to grab a soda at work than I am to drink it at home. But coffee? I am on my third cup right now.

Did I tell you I think the ice cream sandwiches that we like so much are smaller? The lady in the AKL gift shop and I were talking about it. Since they are smaller you should definitely keep having them for breakfast. With or without the Coke. ;)

Giving up (diet) soda would mean I'm giving up caffeine. I work overnight... there is NO way I can do it without caffeine. I've tried. I start falling asleep around 1-2 AM. I have tried everything... walking back and forth, turning the music up in the lobby and 'dancing'... even if I get enough sleep the day before... nothing. Blech.

Have you tried drinking LOTS of water? (By LOTS, I mean LOTS...minimum of 4L for an overnight and preferably more.)

I know it sounds weird, but, the constant need to pee works wonders for me -- as long as the goal is to stay awake. I actually discovered during my undergrad that if I was going to work all night water worked better for me than caffeine since the caffeine eventually started making me shake.

ETA: I should warn you that if you're going to try this and drinking copious amounts of water is out of your norm you may need to mix in some gatorade, or take an extra multivitamin. (You can actually flush electrolytes out of your body if your body isn't used to it.)

Yah, but it gets expensive buying bottled water all the time. The water here tastes disgusting (they pull it from the Mississippi and you can taste it).

The other alternative is to eat crunchy energy bits *looks at jackskellingtonsgirl* and that just doesn't agree with me... LOL

Wouldn't you just be transferring your money from a caffeinated product? Water has the advantage of being able to be purchased in larger containers.

But, I also really couldn't imagine not drinking large quantities of water. I lived in Adelaide for awhile and their water also came out of a river and was "icky", but, I got used to it -- not drinking water seemed like a bigger problem.

Can you filter the water?
