Hi fellow members! We have been thinking about expanding our points. Question is what would be best in our situation..

270 AKV - resale - okt UY - we own this contract now for about a year.

We do three week stays in Orlando area once or twice a year. Just the two of us, no kids(no future kids either). We are European, therefore the longer stays. We usually do split stays.

We are thinking about buying some direct points, so we can do an annual pass for the years we are going twice. But does 25 points even make sense? And do you buy them at your home resort of any other?

And can someone explain the blue card benefits in our case?

Like to hear your thoughts(and maybe daydreaming too ☺️)

Uhmm you'd need 150 direct points to qualify for blue card benefits. You can buy the points with any home resort but it's generally recommended to buy an actively selling resort direct. I'm not sure how good the ticket offers are for where you live in Europe, or when you travel to tell if it's worth even trying to get a sorcerer pass. In all likelihood if you don't need the full 150 you're probably better off buying incredipasses since 25 points is not going to get you any benefits. The only benefit those 25 direct points have is you can use those 25 points at any current and future resort.

How many points are you looking to add on?

Oh aren’t the 25 direct points going to grant us the dvc member extras?

The difference in annual passes is 1000$ a year for us both. So in my girl math, if you would be doing that 6 years, the 25points are payed off..

Depends on the strategy, resale of direct.. but I think in the best case 150 points.

Years ago 25 direct points would've granted you membership extras, you now need 150 direct points minimum to qualify for membership extras.

As others have mentioned, it’s a minimum of 150 points per membership, i.e. you can’t have 75 in one membership and 75 in a separate membership, to receive the direct benefit benefits.

Aah thank you all so much. It sometimes feels like there are so many (hidden) rules and they change all the time.

I get the feeling that buying direct has less and less advantages, would any of you buy direct in this situation?

Probably not, you actually benefit less since you have less members in your family so you'll only be getting 2 passes as opposed to 4. The only way I'd consider it is if the future resorts mattered a lot to you but you could always rent/pay cash occasionally for those stays and buy more resale.

There is so much more that I would need to know about you before I could answer that.

Would I buy direct at Poly or RIV over resale? Probably.

Would I buy direct AKV? Materially less likely. There is just too big of a price gap with resale.

Now…. 3 week stays 1-2x a year…. that is going to make the discounted pass(es), food, and merch start to look really attractive….

But…. if I was staying that long I would want enough points to stay in a 1 bedroom villa.

If you are planning to stay for a 3 week period, you already know that takes a lot of points. 150 direct points are required to be able to purchase the WDW Sorcerer Pass, but 150 points is only about half of what you'd need to stay at most resorts for a studio. And some resorts are considerably higher. Play around with the booking website to see how many points you would need at the resort you would want to stay at for the times you want to travel.

I purchased direct points for the ability to use anywhere but the ability to purchase Sorcerer Annual Passes was a compelling reason too. For the length of times you plan to go, I can certainly understand wanting to get that pass to save money.

Which resorts would you be most interested in purchasing or staying at?

Why is buying direct at the Poly more attractive?

Because there isn’t as big of a spread between the direct price and the resale price relative to other resorts.
Aaah thank you so much! Is there a thread or source which shows active listings of direct points with prices? (Couldn’t find any, but maybe I’m not searching with the right therms)
