Anyone else doing this? I'm looking for some motivation and weight loss pals to encourage each other. I need to lose 30 pounds and get in shape!

We go in June, but I am getting healthy and if weight loss is a side effect of that then I will jump for joy! I just started a month ago and am doing yoga twice a week, the elliptical every day and eating according to weight watchers, which is super easy!

What works for you?

I am trying to lose before we go in September. I am doing www.sparkpeople.com to track my calorie intake and I have been doing light workout for 30 minutes each day. I also am packing healthier lunches!!

Never heard of SparkPeople.com, just looked it up...looks good for me to try out. Thanks for the tip. I plan to cut back on sweets and start with 30 walking workouts and build from there...and of course, water, water, water!

Hey JerseyGirl, I'm going in August as well and today starts my kickoff on losing weight! I have about 40 to lose, so I'm right there with you. SparkPeople is a great site for tools, and support, I'm just very lax in checking in on there :guilty:

An idea that we did 3 years ago when we went. I googled the distance from our house to Disney (we stayed at the Poly so that is address I used). As a family we biked/walked the miles to Disney around our neighborhood, etc. Each time we went for a bike ride we measured how far and that got 'logged' as miles, same with walking. Got us all in shape for all the walking, gave us time together as a family or one on one with the kids. Also got us featured in small article in Family Circle. My son and I even did our first mini-marathon that year...getting ready for number three soon. We also watched what we ate, etc.

Good luck and have fun!

I am going in August as well and would love if I could lose 30lbs by then. I acually just joined a running group that trains you for a 5k in 12 weeks. Today is the start of the 2nd week and I can already feel myself getting firmer.

I however cook like Paula Deen and love good comfort food so that is the area where I need work.

There is a a forum on DIS in the For Fun section called WISH. It has lots of inspirational threads for losing weight, exercising, and getting more healthy.

Good luck!!!! I'm working on losing weight for my July trip.

Heading down in October - and OH what I would give to lose some poundage before then! Count me in! :-)

I have lost about 17 pounds since January. I decided I needed to do something FOR me since I turned 40. It feels GREAT! I lost about 7 on my own, and then joined weight watchers about six weeks ago. WW has helped it come off faster. I track what I eat, pay attention to the food labels, and focus on the positive things I am doing (walking, drinking water, etc)--

YOU CAN DO IT!

Pop over to my PTR... I'm losing it for Mickey!!! :teeth:

It's definitely possible to drop what you are wanting to lose. I lost 30 lbs for our trip last August. When the weather turned, I went back up ~10lbs.

I'm getting back on track and going for more for my December trip.

For those who use Weight Watchers here, a question:

I belonged to WW ten years ago - and still have the points finder and exercise finder slide things that I used. :-) How has the program changed? Are the points targets still the same? I know they tweak their programs year after year - and I'm just wondering if it changes all that much, or is it really more business driven.

Thoughts?

I'll be watching this thread too! I want to lose 20lbs for our trip this August as well. Since my youngest is two, I can no longer get away with calling it baby weight anymore. :lmao:

I will resume running (I let it slip in the winter and the elliptical just doesn't do it for me) and cut portions a bit. I am envisioning strolling down Main Street in a beautiful sundress. Good luck to all!

That is such a great idea!

I agree. You can join the Biggest Loser group over there.

Yes, points have changed. The minimum number you can have is 29 daily and a weekly allowance of 49 extra to use as needed. Most fruits and veggies are 0 Points Plus, but everything else has a different number than before. I have been on WW for almost a month. As of my last weigh in, I am down 6.2 pounds.

I would like to lose 50 lbs for our December trip. We are also going on May and realistically, I hope to lose about 5-7 pounds or so. What works for me is the Abs diet. I follow the principles of the power foods, don't eat the stuff it tells me not to (like HFCS and trans fat), and try to pick up the exercise. I try to cut the sodium as much as possible as well. I don't follow the recipes as they don't seem appealing. When I follow this it works for me. Worked even better for DH, but isn't that always the way things work.:rotfl:

WW has completely changed the points program. It is actually better! I did the points program through them last year and am now doing the points plus program. They have raised the daily points allowed but all fruit and most vegetables are 0 points so you will feel encouraged to make smarter choices unlike before you could choose a 100 calorie bag of cookies for the same point value as a banana! The slides and calculators from the point program will not work with the points plus. They look at fat, carbs, fiber and protein and it was just too complicated for a slide. There is a new calculator though and there are some really cool phone apps too...plus etools online.

I have lost 17 lbs. since 12/2/11 and seriously have not gotten off the couch. Now, I'm not saying that exercise is not important, I'm just saying that the plan really works! I can still eat what I like, eat out at restaurants, I just have to be smart about my choices. And, now I do need to get off the couch to make the rest of this go quicker! I have about 20 lbs. left to meet my goal weight! I am dreading the anticipated weight gain from my trip to Disney in May but it's Disney!!! Nothing will keep me away or make me have a bad time there (there's no point counting at Disney). I'll just have to work harder when I get back. :rolleyes1

Good luck! I highly recommend trying WW!

I am planning a trip for my dd and I for Dec, 2012. I'm kind of early huh? My dh and I went to DW in 1985 and I haven't been back since. I have always wanted to take my dd but finances were always an issue. However, I have decided that if I meet one requirement we are going next year.

That requirement is that I lose 150 lbs!:scared1: I sure hope I can do this. I have battled with my weight my entire life but have never been this obese. Needless to say my health is declining. So, I have committed to losing the weight, exercise and obtain a healthier lifestyle. My dd has lost 95 lbs over the last 2 years and I will turn 50 next year. Not only is this an incentive but a reward also.

I started WW on 2/10/11 and have lost 10 lbs. I know the first few pounds are the easiest and is only water weight. I have begun an exercise program, Leslie Sansome Walk Away The Pounds. I sure hope I can do this and need all the encouragement I can get.

I am going to check out the wish thread. Good luck to everyone and your weight loss goals.

MsHershey,
GOOD for you! Don't underestimate those first 10 pounds as "just water weight"-- that's 10 pounds! That's 10 pounds closer to the new you! YOU are doing it! I am proud of you!

Losing weight is one of the hardest things I've ever done ... it is so "in your face" - the temptations all the time. I am also discovering the weight loss is one of the best things I've ever done. It feels so empowering. :)

I had the older ww tools as well but decided to try again with the new system. I LOVE IT! I tend to be frual but this still worked, and I have decided my health is worth it.

What a way to celebrate a weight loss- a trip to Disney! :wizard:

I really need to get healthy and ideally lose about 40lbs. I am joining WW this week. I've done it in the past, about 7 years ago, but it's time again.
