Losing faith in humanity

I'm in agreement with those who believe in teaching their children to stand up for themselves. I am all for being as nice to people as possible, but if someone is intentionally being rude, I won't be a doormat. Must be the "East Coast" in me, but I assure you, the jerk in the OP's situation would not have been getting any food before me. :rotfl:

I'm in agreement. But I'm not even from the East coast. I'm actually from Missouri. I'm SO confused!!!!!! :lmao:

I find it interesting that CMs are enforcing FP times and keeping resort guests from pool-hopping, but they don't stop line cutters? Especially in the situation the OP spoke of, would it really have been so difficult for the CM to simply ignore the jerk and take OP's order instead? :

I was thinking along the same lines! :confused3

I'm going with the assumption that the clerk just didn't see where the guy came from. But I would have told the clerk I was next then relied on the other patrons behind me to back me up.

All I can say is I am in utter awe. Perhaps, something we can all agree on. Those little b*******. It just shows you what is "wrong" with America. That being said, most children (including my own) would NEVER allow this.:eek::eek:

At the same time, someone started a vacation fund for that lady (I can not commend her enough for her restraint; I would have decked on of 'em) and it has reached over $100,000. This brings back my hope!:goodvibes

Back in the day, before kids, military, and age, would have let him order everything and smiled while he did it... then slapped all his stuff from his hands - letting everything fall on the floor without remorse. Evil YES! Mature absolutely not. Gratifying knowing this person wouldn't get what he wanted yes! Would I do it now no LOL... just don't cut in front of my DS or else I just might get a flashback! Mua ha ha ha ha! :rolleyes1

It's actally now a retirement fund with over $300K in it. Sort of helps restore a tiny bit of faith, huh? Although the original transgression........ oh my. I have no doubt any of those thugs would cut in line at the Main Street Bakery.

Her retirement fund has reached $300k and is still rising and those people have a special place reserved for them in heaven. That poor lady held it together as best as she could until one of those smarmy jackwagons made a crack about her family killing themselves to get away from her when in fact her oldest son did commit suicide 10 years ago. That's when she started crying. Society is sliding down the slippery slope fast and furious and what are the school authorities actually going to do to punish the turds? And why didn't the bus driver pull over and call the cops? All this empty talk about zero tolerance about bullying is just a waste of valuable air.

Especially in the situation the OP spoke of, would it really have been so difficult for the CM to simply ignore the jerk and take OP's order instead? I agree that a CM should not be expected to put himself/herself in a dangerous situation, but I can't see how ignoring the rude guy and taking the OP's order would have put the CM in harm's way, or even caused much of a scene. I mean, even if the jerk yells and complains for a few minutes as he's being ignored, I would think he would eventually give up and either go to the back of the line (doubtful) or find another place to get food (more likely.)

In all likelihood it would have taken longer to deal with the man if they had tried to ignore him. It could have escalated to shouting and goodness knows what else, and then made even more people unhappy and uncomfortable. I've learned from 20+ years in reatail thatsometimes it is easier on everyone to just to give the rude person what they want and get rid of them as quickly as you can. It doesn't make it right.

Awesome!!! I hope the number gets higher. :thumbsup2

I only read the first couple of pages, but I don't understand why a CM didn't step in? I know Disney can't control guest behavior, but they can control who they serve next. If I were the CM, I would have told that jerk that he would have to wait in line and then ignore his order while I took the orders ofhe people actually in line. They have the queuing bars set up for a reason.

Regardless of what law enforcement does (or doesn't) do, it will be a complete travesty of justice of those "kids" ever step foot on a public school bus in that district again. Yet, I haven't heard that's going to be the case.

I'm sorry, but taking the "easy" way out is what perpetuates this kind of behavior. I'm sure that's what the mom in the checkout tells herself when she gives the candy to the screaming kid too.

Dealing with a "situation" is not always about the situation at hand. It's often about future situations as well.

Just wanted to let everyone know that the Walt Disney Co. announced, today, that they wanted to give Karen Klein and her family an all-expense-paid vacation (including airfare) to WDW for a week! How awesome is that?

That's awesome. And her account is over half a Million. May she enjoy her retirement!

But I won't feel this story is done until I hear that those thugs are banned from using public school bus transportation ever again.

I'd like to know WHY in the world the CM behind the counter didn't REFUSE to take this jerks order?!?!?!?!?

Me, too.

One of the dads said he "couldn't believe" his son would treat someone that way. Then he said, "It was a stupid mistake and he's paying for it" and wished people would leave them alone.

It wasn't stupid! It was cruel and malicious.

It wasn't a mistake! It was purposeful.

He better start believing it!

It is exactly this sort of ineffective, wishy-washy parenting that allows these children to act this way.

I get that there are many twisted, evil people and that they start as twisted, rotten kids. Can't stop that.

But parents are charged with teaching the kids that they need to behave. They must be taught that they cannot act on their basest impulses.

We have almost an entire country full of people who are so afraid of making their kids feel bad that they don't make them behave.

I don't get into parenting stuff on the DIS much, but it isn't hard! It is not difficult to make a child behave! Children who taught from the get-go that they must behave do not turn into teens who abuse old women on busses.

Children and adults who were never taught that they aren't so damn special that their desires are more important than everyone else don't turn into people who think its okay to cut through lines because they feel like it.

First, I blame the kids.

Right behind it, I blame the parents.

People need to toughen up and start raising children who behave. Again, it isn't hard! And yeah, I did it.

That should be what happens but think of the CM/people still in the queue. The people who are more then happy to shove their way to the front of a queue to get to the front aren't likly to care what is said to them. All you'll get is a mouthful of abuse and an arguement, not fun for the CM and you have to wait even longer whilst they argue (which is also not fun for your children to watch either).

Yeah, I've noticed no matter where I am in Disney I encounter line pushing alot. Too many self entitled people walking around for my liking and sadly it's not just in Disney, it's a world wide epidemic lol

I agree there are too many self entitled people out there. Unfortunately, I know some personally. And I've found that these people are usually the most unhappy I've ever seen. Having that expectation of entitlement sure does set standards out of reach.

As the OP said the guy didn't seem to be having a good time, so I'm sure the karma got him anyway. It's the same as those people who say they paid xyz for this trip and yadda yadda....as if everyone else didn't pay also. Or the shock and surprise on the already rude people who can't believe how crowded Thanksgiving week is or how hot it is in July. Apparently they are the only geniuses who think to take vacations when their kids aren't in school :)

Years ago, when my son was about 4, we were there over Thanksgiving. We put up with the crowd for the holiday weekend to have a 12 day trip that also includes low crowds and usually great weather the following week, as well as amazing Christmas displays. So for the first few days over the holiday weekend, we are getting shoved, trampled, stroller kicked with son in it...you name it. DH and I were prepared for this but our son was shocked. I politely told him after one incident that those people didn't 'pack their manners' and we always pack our manners. For the rest of the trip when someone did something rude, he would proudly and loudly exclaim "look mommy, they didn't pack their manners!" Take all of the bad as good lessons for the kids. They get it even at a young age.

My dad always used to say, "Manners are cheap...use them". Even when it seems everyone else around isn't. To the OP - all of us responding here are supportive so there is plenty of humanity - just not where you happened to be I suppose....

Is anyone watching the first hour of 20/20 right now 8:33 CDT. We live in a society of people ...............well, just acting badly.

As some of you would have it, security with batons and pepper spray should be at every area the quests are. There goes any "magic" we all want to experience.

Sometimes you have to let it go....... take the high ground. And trust me, you'll have a better day than any jerk and sleep better too!!:wizard:

They don't need cops in the lines. They just need to start tossing people who assault others out of the parks. That isn't hard, either.

Maybe you sleep better knowing that those who push and shove others are getting what they want. That is nice for you.

But, trust me, it isn't nice for everyone. Really. Plenty of people would sleep better knowing that people who knock others out of the way got what they deserved.

I've lost faith in humanity too. It started when I worked in an insurance call center, and it isn't just me, my husband does the same job and he's become jaded too.

Good for you for taking the high road and teaching your boys!

Speaking of terrible humans, I know this has nothing to do with Disney but this evening there was a mother and baby deer by the creek across from my home. I took my two youngest kids across the street to take a closer look and at the same time a neighbor from a couple doors down came in the opposite direction with his pitbull. I didn't notice him until he yelled "get em" at the top of his lungs (referring to the deer) and this dog starts running like mad.

I grab my son's arm and carry my daughter and get them across the street as quick as I can. The dog quickly lost the deer and it started coming after us and the owner was calling for the dog to return and it wasn't listening. Thank God my yard is fenced and we made it in the gate because we would have surely been mauled before I could get into the actual house. What kind of person would do such a thing? Maybe the same kind of person who cuts in line at a bakery and blocks a little kid at a parade.

did you call the police? I think I would have on that one!!! I do not tolerate people letting dogs chase kids!! We have a lady rescuing pits/strays in our neighborhood and she knows if anyone sees them out when the babies are out on our street we will call and have them picked up....it only takes a minute!!!
Sorry you have this in your neighborhood...
