Lose placeholder benefit with cruise cancelation?

Just confirming with the DIS DCL experts on what happens to a placeholder if you have to cancel a cruise within the penalty phase for a non-covid related reason. DH and I are 99% sure we need to cancel an upcoming cruise due to an injury (we have outside insurance). I spoke to a DCL rep tonight to check our options, and asked what happens to the placeholder. I was told that if we canceled, we lose it... which makes sense, I suppose, but I hate to lose the 10% discount tied to it. We have another placeholder we can use in the future, so it's not a huge deal, but just thought I'd check to see what other people's experience has been.

Thanks!

If you tell them you want to cancel your reservation then yes, you lose the placeholder.

If you move the booking to a new date that’s still within the 24 months, you will keep the 10% discount. If there isn’t a cruise you want right now then I’d just move the booking to the cheapest cruise you can find and then move it again once the dates you want are released.

I don’t know if you can change the date once you are within the penalty phase. But that would be the only way to preserve the 10% discount.

Thanks-- so glad we bought both placeholders when we did b2b earlier this year!

We were offered to change the date for a fee, but the fee outweighs the benefit of how much the placeholder would save us unless we change to a longer, more expensive cruise, which we can't plan for at this time.
