LOSE BEFORE YOU CRUISE - Support Thread for all Cruisers

I know I said I would check in at the end of the month, but I am pleased to say that I have broken my 5 week plateau. I lost 2.8 lbs. this week. I am on my way to my mini July 31 goal. It may be a little optimistic, but I am going for it. I need to lose 2 lbs. / week and I will still be short by a pound. I now have a longer term goal to meet. Just booked the East Bound Panana Canal. I expect to be 65 ilbs lighter than December 2012, and I have already lost 37 lbs. Only 28 lbs to go! I know the hard weight to lose.

Just started about 10 days or so ago and my cruise is less that 100 days away. Down 7lbs! Very excited!

I'm now down 31 pounds! All my old dresses fit me and I am so exited. We just booked a trip to Vegas in 6 weeks and I am hoping to be down about 10 more pounds by then. I have been losing about a pound and a half a week. I was doing Nutrasystem and I am still using the food but I have started counting calories. Keeping myself at 1100-1300 a day I started to be more consistent in my weight loss. I also finished C25K, I'm running three times a week, I get other cardio at least twice a week and have started strength training.

On June 2nd I said,
I will meet this goal by tracking my food and not cheating (no more snacking at work) in my tracking and going to the gym 6 days a week. No more waiting Saturday and Sunday's for my DH to say he is ready to join me because it always ends up that I do not go.

Well, I can say that I am down 5 lbs of the 16 that I want to lose by the end of July. I am still struggling in the food, but doing great on the exercise. Some days, I will track my "main" food and forget about my nibbling. I am only cheating myself, but I can not get over it. I feel that I look so good, after losing 38 lbs. and I am now fitting into size 10's and some 12's. I have moved from an XL to a medium, and I feel that I deserve to cheat, but I still need to lose another 25 - 35 lbs. to be at my optimum weight. It is mainly in my thighs and tummy. One day at a time, and I can do it - no cheating, I am only cheating myself.

You're doing great! Tracking food is a pain. I don't write everything down but I started keeping track of how many callories I've had even though I am doing Nutrasystem and that is working great for me. I'm about the same size as you but my 10 jeans are still to tight to wear out. I am in a medium shirt which is awesome. My XLs look aweful on me now!

how tall are you ladies.

I am back on track again,
After loosing 20 lbs about a year and ahalf agoand then gaining 10 back i have gotten back to watcing my food intake and exercising evey day

i am in a size 10 jean and medium shirt.

but i am 5ft, so i should reawlly be small shirt and prob an 8 pant.

ughhh on the tread mill as i post.

good luck

I wish I had found this thread ages ago!!! DH and I have been cruising since 2003 with DCL, and are scheduled for our next one in November! In the past we have always said we would eat right and exersize and get in "shape" for our trips, but we never did. the last couple of cruises, weight was a pretty big issue, since the seats were tight, or impossible. Last year I made a decision to do something about it finally. On July 14th last year I decided to actually make a move since it had been many years of excuses and not making any progress, and I was uncomfortable and unhappy and physically unable to do less and less every year. So I jumped through all the hoops our hospital required and lost 70 pounds leading up to surgery, and on December 15th I had the sleeve gastrectomy done. Since then I've lost another 110 pounds!
I still have about 45 pounds to loose to be considered "normal" weight, but I'm feeling so much better. I had some other surgery this month so I can't do anything that tones core muscles for about 6 weeks, but I can walk, so its harder. Watching the food intake is crutial now, since I can't do anything aerobic. (which is funny to say that its a bummer considering where I was at last year, but it is!)
If anyone who is tracking intake is interested, the Lose it App is awesome. I've been using it for a year now, and you keep track of your calories as well as carbs/sodium/etc.

Thankyou sissy_ib. I needed to hear that from someone other than my trainer. This week, I started to feel like I am going to get out of my tracking rut.

I sent 6 garbage bags of clothes to two different charities. I kept my largest suit, so when I lose all my weight, I can put it on and be amazed.

I joined a nutrition program (like WW) at my gym. It is free for 8 weeks. I don't think I will learn anything new, but someone else that I need to commit too.

It sounds like you are doing great work. Keep it up. Even if you do not make the size, the exercise will make you healthier.

I am 5'2", but also in my 50's. Even as a teen I was wearing size medium and 12, but I swear the sizing has changed over the years.

What an amazing story. You are awesome. Thank you for posting. I use an app from my gym. I have heard that FitnessPAL is a good one too.

I bought a dress for our cruise and it is a size 8!! It does seem the sizes for the dress run big, but I'll take it! It is long and white and I bought pretty gold sandals to go with it. :cool1:

Well I am back. Posted back on page 24'ish and said how unhappy I was because I had put all my weight back on.

And guess what? I still haven't stopped eating. So roughly 310 days before I leave for my EBTA, I still need to lose 80 pounds. Can I do it?

I am off to Amsterdam, Berlin and Budapest in August and September and really need to lose some weight before then. None of my clothes fit me and I can't be buying a whole new wardrobe :-(

I just can't stop eating. It's ridiculous. Everytime I am up in the middle of the night being sick because I have over-indulged I swear that it's the last time. And it never is.

So here I am on yet another Monday promising myself that this will be the last week that I eat rubbish......

You are the only one that can do it. Create mini goals, and if you slip, get back on track on your next meal. I remember in January, we were selecting our port excursions and my DH wanted to do scaling of rocks, and then zip line. There was no way I had the balance or strength to do this activity for our March cruise. I have been working out 6 days a week, and recording my food ever since. From January to March, I was prefect because I had my March 31 cruise to look forward to, and it was easy because I was a recent empty nester, and change was facing me. Then in April, the cruise was over, my DS moved back in from university and I started to slip. Joining the group, helps me stay focused. And there are great people that say the nicest words that encourage me to work harder. If you really want to make the change, I know you can do it.

Have you gone on myfitnesspal.com? I just started going on this website in the past six weeks. It helps me keep track of food and exercise. I had four Auntie Annie pretzel bites.....360 calories. Another day I had 3 pieces of licorice....330 calories. I was told to try and stick to 1200 calories so knowing the amount of calories I am sticking in my mouth helps. When you are really and truly ready, you will be able to stick to eating healthier. My twin boys bar mitzvah was last month. I tried all year to lose weight and couldn't. I finally decided two weeks later that I had the time and ability to take better care of myself and it seems to be working. Good luck on your endeavor...I know you can do it. And check out that website; it has really helped me.:wave2:

Tink, what follows is not meant to offend you and if I am completely off base, stop reading and take my apology now...but if this does not apply to you, maybe it will be meaningful to someone else....

Going on what you wrote and probably superimposing my own emotions, having been there and done that all myself, I am going to suggest that you talk to your doctor and get a referral to a mental health specialist who focuses on eating disorders. One does not overindulge to the point of making themselves sickish if they are hungry for food. I would eat, realize that it was not satisfying the neediness in me, but would keep eating because I did not feel like I had anything more satisfying. Turns out, I was hungry for love, appreciation self esteem.. . The need to be valued. Figured that out, took steps to take care of myself, lost 50 lbs. have another 30 or so to go. Not easy. Not quick. But definitely doable.

Good luck

May the Mouse be with you!

Today I celebrate my 40 lb weight loss. Only another 25 - 35 lbs to go before my next cruise, and I am on track. On my cruise meets, some people have been discussing gluten free diets, and I took a moment to review what I have been eating. I was never much of a wheat eater, and my goal was not to remove wheat. Put it this way, since January, I may have eaten 10 slices of rye bread, and 5 servings of pasta. Any other wheat would have been hidden in my food, but I focus on non packaged food. Nothing frozen, out of a can or boxed, so I think I am pretty gluten free. I do hit the gym 6 days a week with 2 days of focused weight training. My cardio is focused on jogging/running and swimming. I finally hit an 8K in 60 minutes, and my speed was up to 10K/hr. I am looking forward to participating in my first 10K race in October. Today is another new day. Oh yes, and my dream is to run a Disney marathon. I have done the 5K and had so much friend. I bumped into a fellow DISER at the grocery store on the weekend, and she is focusing on a healthier life style and has entered the WDW January 5K - I am so proud of her.:goodvibes

I am just joining in on this board, and am glad to have found it! I am also very very grateful to all of you who have posted your story here for inspiration and support. :thumbsup2

I have lost about 20lbs since the beginning of planning for this cruise. I am following WW, but focusing on core foods, and limiting snacks (junky snacks are the hardest things for me to limit!). I have come up with a kinda clever idea, I think, to keep me on track:

I estimated the distance between my house, and the port of Galveston (which is where we sail from in November). I came up with roughly 325 miles. And there are 112 days until we set sail, so by walking 3 miles a day,(on a treadmill or local track/walking trail) I will have walked the distance between my house and Galveston before my cruise! I am also committing to at least 3 days of strength training per week.

I have learned one thing (that is true for me, at least), when trying to lose weight... if I set a goal of a specific number of pounds to lose, I will get discouraged as soon as I slip a little, and then I self-sabotage and fail. This time, I am looking at things differently. I know I will not be at my ideal body weight by this cruise, but I will be a great deal healthier and smaller. So, I am just going to try my best, and surprise myself by how much I change along the way.

I am not as good as I will get, but I AM better than I was!!! :yay:

Good luck to ALL of you and I hope to meet some of you (will I???) on the Nov. 10 Western Caribbean out of Galveston!!!

Hey CruisinMama,

What a great idea - walking to your cruise, and the strength training. It sounds like you know the keys to success. There will be meals that will not be perfect, but all you have to do is start over at the next meal. One meal is not going to ruin the overall goal. You will get there.

I am at the stage that I am the lowest weight that I have been for over 20 years. It is so easy to say - oh I look so good, why worry. Eat that ice cream or have that drink with everyone else, but I do have a goal in sight of another 25 - 35 lbs. and I am going to do it. And we will work together with our cruise date goals and get that much closer.
