Los Angeles just hit by earthquake

Well, I had to put some things back on shelves and had to wait 45 minutes for the cell phone system to start working normally but other than that all is OK. It lasted a long time and shook pretty violently to the point I was going downstairs and outside. Unsettling but nothing we haven't dealt with several times before.

...and will again.

Btw, the earthquake was not in Los Angeles. It was in Riverside county, close to the Orange County line. Sorry, but as a born raised local, not everything out here is LA. I can't stand the Angels are the Los Angeles Angels!!

Chino Hills is in SAN BERNADINO COUNTY not Riverside Or Los Angeles!!!
I have lived in Chino Hills for over 10 years and do not consider this LA!!
I was raised in Orange County & do not consider myself an Angelino.
All the news reports say Chino Hill but only show everywhere else but here!
We are all fine in the epic center. Our area is still the new suburbs so no old building to be knock down. It seems to be the stongest I've ever felt but no big deal!! Yes I agree everthing should not be about LA!! WE ARE ANAHEIM ANGELS FANS!! LA who?? Leading 10 games in the American League & MLB!!

Pumpkin5156....

I'm also in Oceanside and aside from rattling my nerves, I also have a dizzy headache.

My worst fear almost came true. (I've always thought I'd be in the shower during an earthquake). I was just out of the shower when I felt a slight rumble. I knew what was coming next b/c I remember the Northridge was the same way. So I threw my clothes on and ran to DH's room (who was sleeping) and before I could get there the big one came. I've had a headache since.

I hope you feel better.;)

My thoughts are with those of you out in CA near the earthquake zone.

I felt my first one here in Hawaii almost 2 years ago, and it scared the bejeezus out of me. I just hunched over in my recliner watching my TAAAALLLL entertainment center sway, and watched all my CDs and DVDs fall to the floor. Luckily, I was on Oahu and we didn't sustain damage, but were out of power for about 12 hours, and no cell phone signals at all until late that night.

I'd be curious to find out what happened on the rides during the earthquake? Do rides like Space Mountain have seismometers to detect the shaking and activate the emergency brakes? Do all the rides just shutdown where people have to be evaced? Curious minds want to know!

Epic center?

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Sorry, couldn't help but laugh.

I was IN Disneyland just this morning, it felt like pandemonium! So crowded once they evacuated the rides. CMs handled it very well, put on a brave face despite everyone panicking, children crying.

We were in the Starcade playing Mario Kart, waiting for a friend to get off SM. At first we thought it was a part of the game- until we got up! Tommorowland was the most crowded I'd ever seen it. CMs were evacuating everything around, and even cut short the Jedi Academy! We found our friend in the masses, and apparently he was on the loading dock when a piece of (we weren't sure) fell from the ceiling! No one was hurt, but from what I understand, guests were standing there moments before.

Chaos! See the people pooling out of Fantasyland? I only had my iPhone, and didn't think to get pictures before.

So many people were trying to leave. I'm so sorry for the people that had their vacations cut short. :sad1:

Me too.

I found this at the OCRegister:

All attractions at Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure were shut down while inspectors performed safety checks. At Knott’s Berry Farm, some park-goers found themselves stuck when power was cut during the quake and rides shut down. No injuries were reported, and most rides at Knott’s have reopened.

Ummm, I have to say I'd MUCH rather be at DL then stuck on a roller coaster at Knott's!!!

Yikes what a mess. I'm glad you and everyone else are ok.

I can't help but look at your pic and wonder what kind of madness and chaos would occur in a really BIG quake. I mean look at the light stand in the pic there. Imagine if that thing came crashing down!!! :scared1:

I don't know about the headaches. I never got any. But it is very stressful and nerve wracking for some people so I wouldn't be surprised if they were stress headaches.

Are all those people getting a refund???

OMG its was scary!

I ran out barefoot with my 12 month baby....btw I live on the 3rd floor! :scared1:

I don't know what would be worse - being on a ride when the earthquake hit or dealing with the panicked crowds trying to evacuate! I'm glad everyone is ok.

When the big earthquake hit Hawaii it made me think more about emergency preparedness. Like the current situation in LA, we had no cell phone or land line contact. It was tough not knowing if friends and family were ok, most of my family is on the Big Island right near the epicenter. I have two teenagers that are usually out and about, fortunately it was still early and everyone was home. We made about a plan of what the kids should do if something were to happen and communication went down. I know I'd still freak out, but at least we'd have some sort of plan in place.

Are all those people getting a refund???

Well, the quake hit at 11:42 right? I found this statement online: "by 1:20 p.m., Disneyland spokeswoman Lisa Haines reported that “we’ve already started to bring up attractions again… We hope to have them all up shortly.”"

So I don't know if they'd give a full refund for not even two hours of down time. :confused3 Maybe if someone complained they might give them something, like FPs or a free meal coupon or whatever, but I don't know about a refund.

Maybe though. They might just take it on a case by case basis. Who knows. :confused3

Wouldn't it be nice if just for once nobody went to City Hall to compain? I mean it really isn't Disneyland's fault there was an earthquake. :confused3

People should just consider it an extra E ticket ride! :lmao:

Extra E ticket, that you don't even have to wait in line for. ;)

Here in Corona (about 30 miles east of DLR) in Riverside County we felt it pretty hard. :scared1: We were standing on our front porch getting ready to leave for lunch and I felt it start to rock. Then I saw the plants in the front yard moving! Very strange. Lived in So. Cal. all my life (45+ years) and it's the first time I've ever been outside, standing (not in car) when it hit. We had some minor damage-actually had items fall off shelves and a few things broke. Again, the first time we've ever had minor damage.

Luckily it looks there was no major damage or injuries. Even the 91/241 flyovers passed Cal Trans inspecition.

My DSister was on her way to work at the new Lowes in Chino Hills(near the epicenter) and was on the road when it hit. It took us over an hour to reach her by cel phone. Verizon was certainly overloaded today! That's why I'll never rely solely on cel phone usage. I'm keeping my land line!

Oh, and we were at WDW last Sept. when they had an earthquake hit there on our 2nd day. Guess we brought it with us!

Sorry everyone got scared, even though I live with the threat, daily, it was a little scary for me as well. DD8 was at school so I couldn't even hug her until she got home this afternoon. :grouphug:
