Lorton, VA Auto Train

In a few short weeks we will be taking the Auto-Train down to Florida (driving all the way back) and our tickets are for a Saturday. I know I won't have to worry about business traffic, but was wondering the quickest and easiest route to get to Lorton, Va. from Harrisburg, PA where we can either pick up route 81 or 83. We should be hitting Harrisburg around 10 am. Hopefully there won't be construction workers, either on a Saturday. Any suggestions?

I would take I-81 to Hagerstown, MD. You avoid Baltimore that way. From Hagerstown, take I-70 to I-270. That'll get you to the capital beltway and I-95.

Google Maps suggests taking US15 south to Fredericksburg, then I-270 to I-495 to I-95.

If you take the belt way around DC DON'T assume that there will be no traffic. We went through on a Sunday at around 1:00 PM and it was really backed up due to construction and the fact that rush hour is 24/7 there.
