"Loose articles" on Rides question

Recognizing day to day mileage may very, what exactly is the rule: if I have fully zipped shorts pocket, is that okay, or do I need to be empty pockets 100%? Thanks. (Assuming strict enforcement.)

There are a lot of conflicting observations being mentioned. I totally understand not bringing loose articles on rides- I'm all for safety. BUT, when you talk about checking pockets- that's going way too far!
I'm a Disney veteran and am always amazed at how you can bring a backpack on almost every ride. People have phones/cameras in their hands on rides like Dumbo, TOT, etc... and the ride operators don't say a word! We have also been to Six Flags, Hershey Park, etc... and gone on upside down flipping coasters with wallets, phones, keys, in pockets and never had a problem with losing anything.
You can not start checking pockets- it would waste too much time and be an invasion of privacy!

There is not a lot of conflicting observations. This is the way it is for RRR and Hulk as of now. These are 2 coasters that involve going out over public area. Obviously Universal has put these in place for a reason or because of a past issue.

No, they are not frisking people but looking people over like a hawk and if they suspect someone they will ask what's in the pocket. Just like the security bag checks at the entrance to Citywalk.

It has been a while since I've been to Universal, so forgive me if this is a dumb question, but I feel like my cell phone in it's silicone case (which makes it grippy and harder to slip out of a pocket) would be okay in the back pocket of my jeans. Am I wrong? I mean, I'm basically sitting on it and give the size of my rear, it's pretty secure back there.

Nope, on rides such as Hulk and Rip Ride Rockit, no cell phones are permitted in pockets.. no matter what the case is like.

This is where you feel it's safe and universal says no. Like I said before that you ultimately can do as you wish. If that phone somehow flys out and hurt/kills someone, you will be responsible. That phone is registered to you.

I don't like the rules either but have to follow them. Before I get to the entrance I'm automatically empting my pockets and giving them to my DW. My DS also gives his phone to my DW also. It's just something you get used too.

Do as YouTube search for blacking out on a roller coaster. Just when you think nothing can happen to you something can. If you go totally limp you will have no control over anything in pockets. Is is a long shot, yes, but is Universal going to gamble on it, no.

If something happens to anyone wouldn't you wish that persons item/phone was secured properly with a non rider or locker? Only one answer, YES.

I think after the incident where someone was blinded on Dueling Dragons because of something loose that either flew from someone's pockets or was thrown from their hand, Universal is overly cautious about such things.

There are lockers you can rent for a fee at the front of each park.

I think the only lockers that I resent having to use are the ones at Gringotts and Forbidden Journey. They are so hard to get at with all the people milling about and the small amount of space between them.

The ones for the three coasters are much more easily accessed and don't take much time to get in and out of.

Metal detectors have now been installed at Rip Ride Rockit at Universal Studios Florida to prevent anyone from bringing any loose items on board. Free lockers are available near the entrance.

It's possible the Hulk coaster will also receive these in the near future. Yesterday that ride was down for a couple hours and around a dozen riders were escorted off safely.

They put metal detectors in a ride entrance, but not at the security checkpoints at Citywalk?! (especially the big one with a line for those without bags to skip it... don't they realize villanous minds can smuggle weapons under trenchcoats!)

They must have had a very close call with a flying object again. I wonder if this is an insurance company requirement? The last incident cost them a pretty penny.

They don't have a issue with attacks in the parks its a issues with loose items falling/thrown from guests.

That is excellent news......im still amazed at how many people think it's ok to sneak Things on despite being told not to.

It's shocking to see how fast things fly off of these rides when they come out of people's pockets.
