I'm on my mobil so can't post the link, but the Washington post is reporting Disney has purchased land in the national harbor project to build a resort.
Walt Disney Co. has bought a 15-acre parcel at Prince George's County's sprawling National Harbor development, a shot in the arm for a project that opened with big ambitions a year ago, only to run headfirst into one of the sharpest economic declines in decades.
Disney plans to build a 500-room hotel resort on the parcel, providing another anchor for a 300-acre venture that seeks to rival the District as a conference and convention destination. National Harbor already includes six hotels; more than a dozen restaurants; and a giant conference center run by Gaylord Entertainment, owner of the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.
I'm thinking this will be a great supplement purchase for us if it is DVC as it's close enough for a nice four day weekend and we would be able to take short trips now and then! I hope it is DVC and was so excited when I heard the news! I'd love 4th of July at National Harbor every year!
Guys, nowhere does it say that this has anything to do with DVC. The article says 'hotel resort', not 'timeshare'.
A couple of years ago Disney stated that they planned to start building hotels in cities that were popular with tourists, NY and DC were specifically mentioned. This was to be an expansion of their hotel business, not DVC.

Exactly what I was thinking. But I would also believe that even if this is strictly a hotel resort, we'd still be able to trade points to stay there. Much like the other non-DVC Disney resorts around the world.
DVC or not, I think it would be a lovely place to spend 4 day weekends or 4th of July's! I'm pretty excited since it's not too far from home for my family! I hope that it all pulls through! ETA - Although I wouldn't trade points, I'd use CRO if it's not DVC.
It makes a lot of business sense to make at least a portion of the project DVC, since with the extremely high profit margins of DVC they could recoup the entire cash outlay for the project by selling only 25% of the project as DVC.
I am still not sure I would use my WDW DVC points to reserve a room in DC unless it had some special “perks” like a dedicated “Mickey” bus to the mall and some majorly cool recreational facilities.
