Lookout Cay long pier.

The video points out something that stood out to me on first seeing the island. The buildings in Castaway feel like they could be a land at one of the parks. They are themed in a fun, mostly subtle, whimsical way that is Disney at it's best. They don't scream for your attention, but instead let you take in the details slowly when you look for them.

The buildings at lighthouse just don't have that fun Disney vibe to me. I know they were going for a local vibe, but they feel like they could be buildings at any port-area in any Caribbean port. It wouldn't have a large impact on my enjoyment of the stop, since the beach is the central focus, but I would have preferred a little more Disney in the design. Not in-your-face Disney, but more of Disney resort vibes with theming. It's another reason to love Castaway in my book. I know Castaway is not everyone's cup of tea, but it hits all the right notes for me. I'm glad to still have that option in the future.
I feel like the same could be said about a lot of the changes being done to Disney resorts right now. It’s like someone from Hilton or Marriott is making the design decisions. Everything is bland and generic.

I went back and looked at the concept art for Lighthouse, and even it made the buildings and spaces look much more interesting that what was built. I know that is extremely common for concept art (looking at you Galaxy's Edge), but it's still unfortunate.

I believe in the history of Disney there hasn't been a time when the concept art WASN'T more vibrant and fun! You never see crying kids and long lines for example :)

I believe they may have intentions of selling off the resorts/DVC division at some point and this is why they are doing this. But I could be completely wrong too.

Curious on why you think this...I have heard a lot of theories on DVC, but not this one!

Even if they do sell off ownership of the resorts, won't they still be located right next to the theme parks so that Disney theming would still make sense?

we are getting far afield of topic here, and I dont see Disney doing this, but if there were to... I can see the facilities being one thing to sell, but the necessary licensing for Disney theming would be another cost (that might be a bridge too far?). Tokyo Disney for example is not owned by Disney, but they pay a hefty licensing fee for all that IP.

I don't think most of these arguments have much weight. I honestly think that Disney believes that the up and coming generation of traveler will appreciate them being more environmentally conscious in this case. The low key decorations and themes go along with that.

It isn't that there isn't a tram or a better pier because they are trying to be cheap, or bowing to governmental pressures. There isn't a tram because that is what their marketing research showed would be a selling point. People who would like a nicer way to reach the shore (this does not include individuals that will need assistance, we have already proven that is already in place) are not being left out because of monetary issues, they are being left behind by the march of time and the new attitudes of upcoming customers.

I'm not sure if this is true. As it has been shown the original concept art shows a tram track. Also it was mentioned that budget cuts were made to DCL after LC was announced. There are a lot of younger people that were surprised at the length of the open, uncovered pier as noted in numerous vlogs. To me the environmental spin is just Disney trying seem like a responsible company. Again my opinion.

A 10 minute walk for you might be a 30 to 40 minute walk for others or not being able to do the 1 mile round trip at all. No one is forcing you to read this thread either. This the Disney Cruise line "forum". Look up that definition.
I'm well aware that this is Disney cruise line forum. I'm about to take my 32nd DCL cruise in two weeks. I'm not sure why you think I need to look up the definition of a DCL forum? Since I disagree with you I shouldn't post my opinion?

Your disappointment is palpable. I think if just ask for a ride you can still enjoy the island.

The thing is you were complaining about people complaining. So....
