Lookout Cay long pier.

I guess what I'm saying is that Imagineering has lost its innovation. Disney used to be known for doing new and cool things that no one else had done. Now it feels like they aren't even trying and they don't care if the guest experience is less than stellar.
I think it would better to say that they were not tasked with doing that. The guest experience is not intended to be luxury or fantasy. It is the real world and the environment we need to try to live within and sustain.

If you are looking for standard Disney pampering, you may be looking in the wrong place.

It's not my feelings I'm worried about. Clearly you've never had the privilege of parenting a 15 year old girl. Most of them aren't exactly brimming with self-confidence. Being differently-abled certainly doesn't help anything, among other anxiety and some other mental health issues she's struggled with (no thanks to a series of deaths in our family and my own bout with cancer last year).

And actually, people unfortunately do care and they do judge. Ableism is alive and well and many people don't understand her disorder at all. Ambulatory wheelchair users get accused of "faking it" all the time.

Cleary you know nothing about my family. I have had the privilege of parenting and still do. I'm well aware of mental health issues and all that goes a long with that. I'm well aware of cancer and deaths in the family. I've had plenty of experience with all of the above.

The fact that you think you are the only one that has had to deal with these issues says a lot about you. This notion that everyone is judging you is absurd. Most of us have too many problems of our own to worry about why some teenage girl is in a wheelchair.

If your daughter needs accommodations ask for it. DCL will be happy to help you. You stressing out over what other people think isn't helping your daughter.
Please remember to treat each other with kindness - personal attacks are against the board rules, and this is definitely getting personal.

Perhaps their website should emphasize that.
For all of us paying top dollar to cruise DCL style, "standard Disney pampering" is what we've come to expect over the last 20 years. The beach I go to at home is a state park. I can appreciate the beauty of nature; we leave nothing but footprints. It only costs $10/carload to go there though, and no charge when dh is there because 62+ is free.

Disney will have a hard time justifying their prices to entice people to visit a beach that is not allowed to have beach chairs on the sand. For a company that seems so interested in their comment cards, they're going to be disappointed.

I am telling you from experience it is not easy getting a golf cart on Castaway so I imagine that Lookout Cay will be harder. What happens if you don't think you need a cart so you never registered?
My comment isn't based on Castaway -- it's based on real reports from Lookout Cay. If you need a golf cart ride in the morning, yes you must sign-up at Guest Services the day prior. However the golf carts are more lenient for the return ride to the ship and are taking anyone who asks.

Truth in advertising... what a concept. Their website already emphasizes it's a cultural experience, it is literally in almost every first sentence describing what to do and see. The cruise ship itself is still standard disney, mickey and Minnie run around the port, I dont think their advertising is that far off.

But then again they don't emphasize in their description of ports of call that Nassau for example is voted 'best port to stay on board'. Maybe they should. Maybe for lookout point they should say 'voted least like coco cay.'

Or maybe they should treat their customers as adults able to research and decide for themselves.

The beach I go to at home is a state park.

"Senator, I served with Jack Kennedy. I knew Jack Kennedy. Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine. Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy."

Glad you have a beach at home that satisfies all your desires, but a) I doubt it's like lookout point and b) not everyone does. Perhaps lookout cay is not for you but it could be for others.

what beach would that be? All reports and pictures and videos I have seen show beach chairs on the sand, some of them pulled up to the surf like you see on castaway cay. now perhaps some click bait negative vlogger tried to score points by pointing out there were not beach chairs everywhere there was sand, but a) doesn't mean not allowed) and b) in some places there just isnt enough room above the high tide mark to leave chairs. I have seen plenty of evidence guests are allowed to pull chairs below to the water, but when the guests leave the castmembers bring them back above the high tide line.

my favorite video is of a middle aged family of four with a young lady's comment was 'suck it up' regarding walking long the pier as her dad commented on the length (not my sentiment, but hers) and then at the end of the video this able bodied suck it up family of four was clearly riding a golf cart back talking about what a wonderful time they had.

Like you said, if you need a cart, sign up for a cart. And maybe that means you need to wait a bit longer, but you won't be denied.

What is standard Disney pampering?

We were denied when my DM was struggling with the walk at the beginning back to the ship where the golf carts were. Some castmembers were a little rude about it too. There NEEDS to be some type of seating and shade.
I will suggest that there probably needs to be a lot more education and information given to the guests - both during the cruise, and before - but there does not NEED to be any special structures.

Your wording is confusing to me, but I think you are talking about returning at the end of the day? What was the result of the complaint I hoped you filed? If your DM was experiencing medical concerns those cast members need to be better educated, at the very least. And agreed, seating and shade would be a good idea.

And the die hards will talk about how nice and how reasonable the experience really is. How it's just a slightly longer swim than most guests get when snorkeling or swimming out to Pelican Plunge.
I legit laughed out loud lol because you know it’s true!!!

Correct, at the end of the day. DM was struggling to walk after the tram. We weren't cabana guests, concierge, or anyone special. She doesn't use a scooter or anything, and appears pretty fit for her age. So, we were told they weren't for us 😧🙁. After that, she wouldn't try to sign up for the second stop. The CM at GS said she was sorry for that as she typed our complaints and canceled our excursions for the second stop, but that has been it. Emails and calls after, and still zero apologies from Disney. Just the canned "Thanks for your feedback" response.

ugg, thank you for sharing your story, it is great to get direct impressions. Sounds like they need to find some extra pixie dust to make it up to your mom and your family.

Sorry to hear that. Out of curiosity, was this the preview cruise? That first time they stopped the golf carts were restricted however processes were changed after that, maybe even for the 2nd stop.

The process now is to request a golf cart TO the island in the morning, stop by Guest Services the day prior. Golf carts are available to anyone for the RETURN to the ship in the afternoon.

oop! I see Mags2002 replied the same info

Thank you. That one CM was very nice and understanding about everything. She personally had a gift sent to DS for his missed birthday, even though it was on our res. Totally made his day! Erin definitely got a compliment from us!

Erin from the Entertainment Cast on the Magic? If so, she’s awesome! 😀😉
