So we just purchased resale and have a contract at AKL with a use year of Oct . Which happens to work well for us . I have 150 points and well we are thinking of adding another 50 points at least . We are not sure if we purchase through Disney and get 50 from them at another resort or do we do resale again ? Another resort or at AKL ? So confusing also if we do either option can we us all our points together if we have an October use year and another use year ? ANY help is great guys ! But DVC was the best purchase we have made so far this year LOL :)

You can use your points from another use year together as long as you're in the 7 month reservation window.

It depends, why do you want to buy more points?

We really would like to take a longer vacation or maybe get a bigger room ... Depending on the year .. this year we have 4 nights at GCV and 3 Nights at AKL booked and would like to maybe have added a day or two to the AKL one . We are only going to be traveling as a couple or 3 of us as our older children are no long interested in travel with us only our 14 year old is coming . We would also like to try Hawaii one year just as adults :)

I am thinking about the same thing. We just purchased resale and I already have addonitis. I just don't know which way to go. Although, I am leaning toward another resort, since we bought BCV and it has an early end date. So, I am thinking of getting a resort with a later end date.

I am going to wait a little bit, at least until after our first stay as DVC members. Then maybe I will have a better idea of what would work best.

We have been renting points so we have stayed in DVC resorts in DVC rooms our first visit as DVC members will be to Disney Land and we were VERY LUCKY to get our dates for a studio there as everyone told us it would be next to hitting the lotto to get that lucky LOL .. We have friends that have at least 200 points we have 150 so thinking that we may need the extra 50 ...

The benefit of owning a resort is the ability to book a hard to get reservation at 11 months. I don't see AKV as one of those resorts.

Until you have stayed at all of the DVC resorts you really don't know which is your favorite. When you find it you will know, you will get a certain feeling when you walk into the place. Your tastes may also change, you may move up to a larger room or want a certain view, spend more time at the resort and less in the parks.

The amount of points required are dependent on all of these factors so until you get all of the answers, it's a guess.

Did you not borrow points to make the stay as long as you wished it to be? I'd suggest really working out the travel plans for the next 3 years or so and apply your existing points to those plans and see where you end up. And now that you're an owner you also can look at transferring points into your account. That time will give you a chance to explore other resorts and decide if you do need more and if so then where you'd like to add on.

IMO there's a bit of a let down after you've gotten your first contract and you feel a bit out of it since your not in the buying process. It's not bad to take a little time and use your membership and then re-evaluate any additional need of points.

This is wrong.

The 7 and 11 month timeframes are based on the home resort, not the use year. In order to combine points from different use years, you must transfer them, which comes with its own set of problems.
