Looking forward to a crowd-free Disney Trip! **Update 9/4**

One thing that I was happy about when I showed him the YouTube videos -- he wasn't afraid of alot of the dark rides/shows. He is afraid of the dark -- he calls our big light in the living room "the sun." Every night as soon as it gets dark, he says "Mommy I'm turning on the sun" and then goes into the pitch dark hallway to turn on the living room light. So, the way I see it, he's half afraid of the dark (since he does turn all the lights on) but he's also half pretending to get mommy's attention (since he will go into a pitch dark hall or room to turn the light on!)

We'll most likely have to just experiment once we get to Disney. It's pretty much trial & error the first 2 days. After he gets used to the routine, we're usually ok -- get out of the stroller, wait in line, see the show/ride the ride, then get back into the stroller -- and do it all over again!

I am actually fairly proud of myself! I was throwing around the idea of buying a new stroller. I know, I know -- Luke is almost 3 years old! Why on earth would I do that? Well, for Disney of course! :rolleyes1

In 2009, Luke's first trip to Disney, we just rented Disney strollers. It was very convenient once you got to the parks. However, you weren't able to use the stroller at the airport, at the resort, or at DownTown Disney. We found alot of issues with these, especially when Luke wanted to lay down & nap. It was also hard for him to have food/drinks in that stroller & there was NO storage space for my bags.

Last year was much, much better because we took our own stroller. First of all, we arrived at the airport WAAAY early & were able to just push him around until it was time to board. He enjoyed riding in the stroller people-watching while my husband & I were able to talk. It was nice to be able to concentrate on the conversation & not on a toddler running through the airport with us following behind! :lmao:

Luke napped every single day in his own stroller. We would park him in the shade & take that time to just people watch or grab a quick snack or meal. I would walk around & take pictures or go into a giftshop while my husband sat on a bench beside Luke's stroller. Or my husband would walk around while I sat with Luke. It was wonderful!!! Luke was also able to carry around food and/or drinks on his stroller tray. I was able to put my park bag in the bottom compartment of the stroller along with any purchases we made at the giftshops! It was sooo nice to have our own stroller & I highly recommend it for anyone with children.

Now, why am I saying all this wonderful stuff about my stroller & then say I'm looking for a new one? Well, I was looking for a smaller, more compact stroller. I would LOVE a MacLaren but there's no way I can afford that right now. I saw a few different choices at various stores recently but they say "for children under 40 pounds." That means that I'd probably get to use it for a year, maybe 2 years at the most. Luke's weight fluctuates between 37 and 38.5 pounds. I don't want to buy something that I'll barely get use out of. (Yes there are no children in my future plans and I don't babysit much anymore so I don't think we'd use it much)

We had a small umbrella stroller but it didn't recline, no room for storage, no stroller tray for food/drinks, and I gave it away so its not an option anyway! The strollers that I saw were around $50-70 and had a large compartment on the bottom, a small tray in the front, and were more compact that my full-size Graco stroller.

Well, I know that was a really, really long story (aren't you used to my long stories by now!?!) but I HAD to share it with you!!! Because I have been doing so much better with money recently. I actually talked myself OUT of buying the 2nd stroller! :thumbsup2

I just don't see a point when we already have one. Luke loves his stroller & we still use it all the time. Sometimes when we're only buying a few items at the grocery store, he asks if I can push him in the stroller instead of a buggy. We also use it at the outlet mall as well as the regular mall. I'm using it this Friday when we visit our Disney Store too!!! :rolleyes1

Well, I suppose a visit to the Disney Store isn't exactly "doing better with money" now is it??? :lmao: I just cannot resist! I'm going for the release of the Muppets 2 series Vinylmation as well as to look for the plush Sulley for Luke's birthday. I got him Mike and Secret Agent Oso but when he sees Mike on tv, he always asks "where is Sulley?" so I know he will want them both. Last time we were there, about 2 months ago, they only had 1 Sulley left so I'm really hoping they restocked! Our Disney Store has an entire back wall of plush -- its crazy! I'm secretly hoping they'll have the 40th Anniversary Mickey & Minnie but I think its a park exclusive so they probably won't!

If anyone would like me to look for anything, PM me & let me know!!! I get the Disney Visa discount as well so I could always ship it to you if you're looking for anything specific! :thumbsup2

Ok -- next up -- changes to my plans (yes again!!!)

Hope!! I am so excited to be joining you as... yet ANOTHER Disney travel agent!! :lmao: At this rate there will be more agents than clients on these boards! I haven't finished my College of Knowledge yet, but still, I am SOOOO excited! So cograts to you too!!

What a great idea for how to guage what Luke will want to do! I have heard that Sam's Club or someplace has a set of DVD's like that... maybe I will look.

I need to go update my PTR now, it's been a while! Then back to "college"! :rotfl:

Oh my gosh, I am going to school for early childhood ed so I LOVE reading about Luke and his reactions to things! The part where he gets excited about seeing other kids reminds me of my next door neighbor's little boy...I don't know exactly how old he is, but I'm guessing 3 going on 4. He absolutely loves to see my dog Caesar and often asks where Caesar is if he sees one of us and not Caesar. Once, when I was walking Caesar and stopped to talk to them, the little boy asked, "is Caesar a kid or a dog?" :lmao: Just the way he said it was so cute! I don't know if it's because Caesar is fairly small even though he's fully grown, or what, but it was adorable. I'm going to be working (well, interning, basically) with preschoolers next semester as part of the practicum for my major and I am SO excited!

Using the DVD's to figure out what Luke might like and what he might be afraid of is a really, really good idea. I don't blame him for being afraid of Dinosaur; I'M afraid of Dinosaur! :rotfl: I honestly don't know how some young kids do it. I love it, but it's major sensory overload for me. I HATE loud noises and darkness. I love the ride, but it scares me to death. The loud noises and darkness is why I can never, ever do Stitch's Great Escape again...the dark, the loud, unexpected surprises, and, on top of it all, being RESTRAINED so you can't move at all was too much for me. At least I can say, been there, done that, never again.

Awe, likes reactions to the video were so sweet!!
I wish James talked enough to do that. Some words and phrases are perfect; most he just uses the same vowel noise for every syllable.

Love that his room is all Disney decked out!

The kids program sounds really cool! I'd totally go for that! We have a thing here in the summer where they throw a couple of kid friendly concerts at random local places. It's a ton of fun.

We send James to mothers day out one day a week. He LOVES the socialization!

Awwwww, how fun that Luke enjoyed the DVDs so much! They are so cute at that age, I sure miss it sometimes.

Count me among the group of people afraid of Dinosaur, I don't blame Luke one bit for not liking that one

Good idea about showing Luke the DVD's beforehand! :thumbsup2 Too cute what he liked and didn't like. Our first trip to Disney, Jeremy rode Winnie the Pooh and after it bounced like Tigger--he would not ride anything else. It scared the child to death. The only thing he wanted to do the rest of the trip was meet characters!

Hope you have fun at the Disney store! We no longer have one around us. :sad2:

I am SO trying to catch up on your trip report. I'm caught on the whole airfare thing. I rarely fly anymore. I DREAD the TSA thing! :scared1: Our local airport is Washington Dulles (the one that the plane was highjacked from and flew into the Pentagon)... so the TSA is super strict there. Anyway, are you saying that if you have say, a SW reservation for flight 5678 for which you paid $250 and later, you find that flight 5678 leaving on the same day and time is now $200, you can get a credit for that $50 to use later? I thought there were odious fees to make changes to your flight? Or would that be an odious fee if you change your flight from say Thursday to Saturday for instance? I thought most flights were non-refundable, unchangeable? The last time I flew to WDW was March 2008. I think we drove for the five trips since. I think I live at the upper Northern limit of a reasonable driving plan. You CAN do it in one day, but I don't recommend it. If you can get a credit if your flight price drops... how do you know it drops and how do you get the credit?

Heidi doesn't swim very well yet, so we haven't taken her to a water park yet. We'd end up stuck the whole day in the kiddie area. I'm not a huge waterslide lover, and she's so happy when we just take her to the pool that I don't think she's really missing anything. She's even happy with Pop's pool.

Co-sleeping! Its really great for some kids, and not for others. Our older two never slept in our beds... we'd bring their toddler bed in when they were sick, but not otherwise. One time when Max was a toddler, he was sick, so we had him in our room with his bed. We woke up with him sitting in the middle of our bed between us covered in red lipstick!!! :rotfl: He'd gone into our bathroom, taken out my favorite Estee Lauder (expensive) lipstick and schmeared it all over himself, the bedding and on Henry's back. Note... parent's rooms are not necessarily child proof!! However, Heidi sleeps in our room alot. She said her room is lonely! When I was nursing her, I often had her in our bed, and so she likes to be near us. Since we have a sitting room off of our bedroom, only separated by two Doric columns, she will frequently sleep on our couch. She's getting too big to sleep in our bed... but when we're at SSR with that big King sized masterbedroom bed, there's so much room she can sleep horizonally between us!! Alot of times, we'll let her fall asleep on our couch in the sitting room, and then Henry will move her to her bed after she's asleep.

almost forgot to mention. My friend Valerie was taking my advice and planning to go to Disney with her husband and DD8 this spring break, which started yesterday. She booked her Sheraton time share in Orlando, then started looking for airfare from Dulles, she said she couldn't find anything under $1000 a person!! :scared: With the unrest in the middle east and the rising oil prices, there's just no way airfare is going down. But this was a WOW!! in a bad way!

:welcome: I need to head over to your PTR! I noticed that your ticker was the Beach Club -- are you staying there as well? Maybe we will run into each other! I see you are arriving 3 days after us!

We are technically at the YC, though since those two resorts share SAB we certainly might run into each other! I will be the insane redhead who is dragging her much maligned DH to the rope drop every morning. :lmao:

My DH, who has NEVER been a morning person in the nearly 30 years that I've known him, but has always aspired to be.... was amazed at how much you can get done in a day when you get up early. We left at dawn on our last WDW trip because my BIL is former Airforce and a very disciplined early to rise man. DH agreed to follow Doug's schedule to see how life was "on the other side"... he was awed.... but he can't do it on his own yet! :rotfl2: We have ALWAYS wanted to make a rope drop... but never have!! I asked DH if since we can't afford to go to Hawaii for our 25th anniversary in June, if we could stay at the "fake" one... Poly... but now I'm thinking... YC would be a better choice!

First off, I'm in Fairfax ;) I feel I should be somewhat more supportive of my DH, as he is the usual morning person, and I am the grouch. Except while on vacation, where our roles reverse. I am up with the sun and all he wants to do is sleep in!

We're perfect for each other....:lmao:

As for YC vs. Poly.... really depends on what you want as both are very nice hotels. I know the YC is considered more "adult friendly" and there are less kids. Poly has direct access to MK, YC to Epcot. Personally, I'd rather be able to walk to Epcot than catch the monorail to MK... but I am also a big foodie and spend most of my time eating while at the parks ;)

For those of you who have been following along with my frustrations with potty training, I have some great news!!!!

No, we aren't quite there yet. No, we aren't completely done with diapers. But tonight we hit another milestone in potty training!!! :thumbsup2

The past few weeks have been so frustrating with potty training that I basically just gave up. I couldn't take it anymore...all the fighting & arguing & crying all over wearing a diaper!!! First, he refused to take off the diaper. He didn't want anyone to see him without his pants/diaper on. He wouldn't even TRY to go on the potty.

Then, he did a complete 180 and decided that he had to spend the entire DAY in the bathroom! He would first go on his little potty, then he would try to clean out his own potty, wash his hands, and then immediately sit on the big potty. After flushing the big potty, he would wash his hands & go immediately to the little potty again. We did this routine for about 2 1/2 hours. I finally shut the bathroom door (it has a childproof lock on the outside so when its shut, he cannot get in it). I had enough. Sure, it was great that he was showing interest -- but he would get soooo frustrated by the 5th or 6th time when he wasn't "going on the potty" anymore. He didn't seem to understand that after awhile, it just stops coming out (sorry, I know its a little TMI but once you're a mom, you will seriously say anything to anyone!) So then he would have a meltdown because he REALLY wanted to go on the potty but literally could not go. I tried explaining that you go once on the potty, then you eat lunch & watch tv & play & then when you feel like you have to go again, you go back to the potty. Reasoning with a 2 1/2 year old does not work! He would only get frustrated.

Then a few days later, he changed his routine yet again. This time, he decided that when he needed to go potty, he would run into the kitchen, take off all of his clothes, socks, diaper & then run into the bathroom as fast as possible (usually having an accident along the way considering the rooms are on opposite sides of the house!) Then he would get upset because by the time he got to the bathroom, he didn't have to go anymore. Everytime I would dress him, he would undress himself. We did this routine for a few days.

Finally, I know its not the best thing in the world to do, but I just told him to forget about going on the potty. I said that he wasn't ready & we'd just use diapers for awhile longer. I just couldn't take the disappointment on his face when it wouldn't work out the way he wanted it to. Plus, we had alot of other things to do -- we couldn't spend three weeks just in the bathroom. So, at the end of last week, we went to the grocery store. I was looking for a baby gift for a friend (btw -- I know 17 people who are pregnant right now!!! Can you believe it?!?) So while I was looking for a baby gift, Luke spotted the pull ups & diapers. He said to me, "Mommy I want to buy those pull ups. And I want to wear those pull ups at home." At first, I just looked at him because I was in shock that he said it! Then I explained to him how he could wear pull ups or big boy underwear and then we'd get rid of his diapers. I told him that he wouldn't wear diapers again. He said "Ok mommy, buy me these pull ups."

Over the weekend, he did extremely well with potty training. I would usually have to ask him if he needed to go, but he also did it a few times on his own. Yesterday, he ran around all day in his tshirt and big boy underwear. He had 3 accidents but overall, it was a great day! So I figured that probably by June or so, we'd be FINALLY finished with diapers! Well, now I'm thinking it might be sooner! I'm hoping! Tonight, I was talking to my mom on the phone & he went into the bathroom. Instead of going on his little potty, he got his potty seat & put it on the big potty. He sat down & started to go #2 -- this was a first!!! He's never done that before on the potty!!! So I definitely see it as a HUGE improvement! We weren't home at all today, so unfortunately, no potty training. But this evening, he went a few times on the potty on his own & then did this!!!! I was super excited!!!

I think it helps that I'm bribing him with E.B. the Bunny from Hop!!!! Did you see him? He is too cute! Luke saw him a Build a Bear about a month ago. We had a gift certificate and a coupon, so I wanted him to get whatever he wanted (animal, clothes, etc). Normally I try to steer him in the direction of something else if he wants the most expensive things -- but since we had the discounts, I let him get what he wanted. Well, he decided that he wanted a puppy AND E.B. I wanted to let him get what he wanted -- but within reason! So I made him choose 1 animal and told him he could buy the animal 2 shirts. Well, he did choose the puppy -- and its a super cute, soft chocolate puppy! We got him a cute guitar shirt with jean shorts and a little guitar as well as a surfer outfit that was on clearance. Our total bill was $3.50!!!! :thumbsup2

Well, ever since this shopping trip, Luke asks me all the time if we can buy an Easter Bunny. I know he's talking about E.B. He gets super excited when we see E.B. on tv commercials & on Easter treats at the grocery store. So I ordered it for him & it should be arriving by Friday!!! I'm keeping it hidden once it arrives and as soon as he's potty trained, he will be getting his surprise!!! :thumbsup2

I was just so excited this evening, I HAD to share with you!!!! I promise to respond to all of your comments/posts by this weekend. I'm involved in a Vinylmation Custom Swap right now & need to finish painting & ship out my custom before Friday. I really need to work on it most of tomorrow in order to finish (I'll post pics here when I'm done!) So I will catch up to all my subs and will respond to your posts either tomorrow evening or Friday! Promise!!!

I completely understand. James is the same way on the potty. He tries to make himself go over and over. And tells me he is not done. You are getting so great signs from Luke though. Hopefully it will go quickly and smoothly for you!

Yay for Luke!!!! I guess it really just depends on when they are ready! Congrats of Luke's potty accomplishments!! :cool1:

:cool1::cool1:Way to go Luke! He is making great progress!!! What an accomplishment!

:banana:Yay for you too Mom! I know how exciting that is!

Yay Luke!!!

It's been awhile since I've had one potty training, but I remember the frustration going through it with Justin. Jared was easy, he wanted to be just like his big brother and do everything just like him.....

Yay for Luke!! I totally feel your frustration, it was a loooooong process, and then one day, it just clicked! Bribery is not bad!!! Congrats!!

It's just frustrating me so I thought that I would share with all of you! Any airfare tips for me? I'm fine with travel plans until it comes to airfare. I don't travel often enough to be a 100% airfare guru...you know? Will prices drop 90 days before? 60 days before? 30 days before? Or is it just complete luck whether it will drop? Will they release more nonstop flights? Our airport usually has 3 flights per day (through 2 airlines) going to MCO -- but is September a slow travel season so they only have 2 instead of 3 or will another open up closer to the date?

Usually prices will fluctuate up until about 30 days out - then they rise. Usually around 60 or so is when airlines will have sales. Are you a "member" on any airline sites? JetBlue sends emails all the time, they have some great sales! We usually end up buying somewhere between 60 and 45 days and get a good rate.

pixiedust: I am now a Travel Agent -- specializing in Disney vacations!!!! pixiedust:
I also wanted to give Brook a chance to announce it herself -- but since there is alot of talk on her TR already about it, I guess I can mention it here too! I am very, very honored to be working for the same agency as Brook!!! She's such a great lady & is so very knowledgeable about anything-Disney!!! Congrats to Brook!!!!

You are so sweet!!! I love that we are working at the same agency! It's been wonderful to chat and rely on each other and we both (along with Jen and the other new folks!) navigate this new career! :goodvibes

:rolleyes1

I think this is a good move. He's used to that stroller and will probably nap better because of it. :thumbsup2 We once had a Peg Pergo that had a tray, was light weight and all that - it was good Disney stroller! We got it off albeebaby.com for around $80. Love that website!

No, we aren't quite there yet. No, we aren't completely done with diapers. But tonight we hit another milestone in potty training!!! :thumbsup2

I just emailed you about this too... SO HAPPY FOR THE BREAK THROUGH!!! :dance3::dance3::dance3: Go Luke, go Luke, go Luke!
