Long Version:

One of my really good friends just got engaged and she asked me to be her maid of honor. :) Her Mom is throwing them an engagement party/brunch one afternoon this weekend and I am stumped as for gift ideas!

I've never been to an engagement party before, so I assume it isn't quite like a shower, but at the same time, I'm not sure what exactly will be the norm for gifts (if at all). I'm trying to think of something more to celebrate the engagement that they can use now, instead of the typical "toaster-type" shower-y present that they have to keep until the wedding.

So... something to use during planning the wedding, or something that they can use right now (like restaurant g/c's).

They don't drink... so wine's out. I was thinking of a wedding planner, but my friend has been planning in her head for years and has most things booked already, so I'm not sure she'd really need one.

So, what are your creative ideas? Any thoughts!? Thanks! :)

Short Version:

Looking for a great idea for an engagement present for a friend... any help would be muchly appreciated!!! :)

A subscription to a Bride's magazine. Buy a copy of the magazine for the party.

A wedding etiquette book.

A wedding planner.

How about a dinner gift certificate, so when they are going crazy and ready to kill each other over the wedding plans they can go on a date and remember why they fell in love in the first place.

No ideas, Lynne, just wanted to say it's nice to see you as a thread starter. :cool1: Plus I had to read to see who was engaged. ::rolleyes1 :rockband:

Things I would have loved:
Bride/grrom tees
b/g mouse ears
A wedding planner book (what I actually gave my MOH for her Wedding)
GC to Logans steakhouse
Gift card to Michaels ( can be used to buy stuff for wedding, scrapbook stuff etc)

Just a friend to help me dress shop, look for stuff for wedding etc.

I have never understood the idea of an 'engagement gift'...and I'm from the Northeast where we give gifts/throw parties for everything. hehehe

Everytime a friend of mine has gotten engaged, I've just sent a card. The ONE 'engagement' party I've been to was a surprise (as it was 1 hour after the groom proposed) I brought a bottle of champagne...as did most everyone else.
