This year I'm not nearly as excited about planning for my vacation as I was last year. I think it is becasue there aren't any new experiences that I'm really looking forward to.

So, does anyone have any suggestions of new things to try at Disney?

I would like to do something that all memebers of our party can be included in. We have ages ranging from 5 to 65 and one member of our party is in a wheelchair (they can transfer, but not be out of the chair for much more than that).

Tell us more about you.. What are you looking for? It's hard to throw out meaningful ideas w/o having an idea of what would be fun for you. What about the current planning is not inspiring you? When did you go last, how often, what do you like to do there, what did you do last time that was new, has everyone in your party gone as often as you, etc...

There are 4 theme parks 2 water parks, DTD (DS?), 2 mini golfs, and 30 resorts, hundreds or rides and shows. If you have done it all, then IDK what to tell you.The La Nouba show is great. Bowling at DTD is fun, New lion King show....

There is also Universal, Seaworld, Busch Gardens, Legoland, Fun Spot, many things on Irlo Bronson and I-Drive. the beach is close, fishing, cruises, and air boat rides.

What haven't you done? For all we know you haven't gone on Big Thunder, so that is new to you. Just saying what is new leaves it open too much.

We went through that a bit on our last trip.

We ended up:

Renting a boat at POR and taking a trip up and down the Sassagoula.

Going to La Nouba

Trying some of the different restaurants we'd never experienced.

Attending the Christmas party at MK.

Sometimes just changing up the way you tour can freshen things up. We would ALWAYS start in Tomorrowland when we visited MK, and work our way around the park counter-clockwise. Last trip we started in Adventureland and went the other way. It was great!

Without more info about what you've already done, is second the recommendation to rent a pontoon boat in DTD-- it's a lot of fun.

Have you gone to HDDR? Lots if family fun there. Dinner at California Grill may be nice, too, because you can watch MK fireworks from the roof of the Contemporary.

Depending on the size if your party, you can rent a golf cart at Fort Wilderness.

Just a thought. If you are not really looking forward to the trip is there something else you can do instead of Disney?

There are a lot of places that I love and do many times over the years but once I don't look forward to it as much I start looking elsewhere for a year or two and then go back to my "favorite places".

If you haven't done.. do a Fishing Excursion from the YACHT club fun for all ages.. request Rick as your guide.

New, as of when?
It doesn't have to be new to Disney, just maybe something I haven't thought of doing before.

We are a party of 8. Myself and my husband and our three kids (10, 8, and 5), my parents and my sister (in a wheelchair with mental and physical disabilities). We have been there 3 different years (within the past 6) as this same group. My parents and sister travel there at least 2 to 4 times a year. I am looking something that we can do together as a family. This rules out most tours (we've done Behind the Seeds) due to age or mobility restrictions. I was thinking about an Illuminations cruise, but am unsure of that due to the wheelchair/transfer issues. Last time, we did the Pirates and Pals Fireworks Voyage, Frozen Summer of Fun package, PL, BBB, and pretty much every character meal (Chef Mickey's, Garden Grill, BOG (2X dinner and 2X lunch), CRT, Akershus, CP, 1900 PF breakfast and dinner, Tusker House, and 'Ohana breakfast. We've also done Splitsville.

We last went (the same party members) this summer and were there for 2 weeks and then another 2 weeks. The planning for that trip was very exciting and we had such a great time. Maybe I'm ust afraid that this time won't be as magical. I've got Star Wars breakfast and dinner and Mickey's Backyard BBQ booked. We've chosen not to do HDDR and the Luau.

I'm not saying we've done it all, I'm just trying to find something new that we can all enjoy. For instance, we've never been to the waterparks. I know my kids would love them, but it isn't practical to visit them with my sister due to her physical and medical issues.

Maybe that is part of the problem, we always do things the same way! I'll have to make more of an effort to change the little things like touring.

I like the idea of renting a boat, but are they accessible for a wheelchair?

We have not done HDDR, but we decided to do Mickey's Backyard BBQ this time instead. I've thought about Cali Grill, but I'm not sure how the kids would do waiting to eat until so late. I also don't know how special the fireworks would be from up there, because we had a room at BLT this summer that overlooked MK, and so we watched fireworks many nights from our room.

Just a thought. If you are not really looking forward to the trip is there something else you can do instead of Disney?

I don't really have the money to go someplace else this year....I know that may sound odd, but we have APs just for the year, so the tickets were paid for last summer, and my parents will get the room for us using their vacation club points. So, all we need to pay for is food which will consist of basically one meal eating out each day (and the rest in the room) and transportation (we drive, so a couple hundred for gas).

Do you have to have a fishing license to do that, or is that included in the price of the excursion?

Once you added the clarification, the question became easier to answer. And the dilemma made much more sense, and became very sympathetic.

(1) Tomorrowland Terrace Dessert Fireworks Party. A nice location to catch the fireworks, especially for someone in a wheelchair. Tinkerbell flies over the spot, and the desserts are popular with the kids. Could substitute for one of the meals.

(2) Some of the meals in Epcot make for nice experiences. Like the Japanese steak place.

(3) Star Wars weekends makes HS different -- and arguably better. The fireworks show for Star Wars Weekends was great. You'll just want to find a comfortable place to watch it. Ditto the parade.

(4) Dining with an animal specialist at AKL is pretty special *if* your party is old enough and really interested in animals. In any event, going to AK with a focus on the animal experiences (bird show, Rafiki's planet watch, animal trails) and broadway shows (Lion King and Nemo) makes AK a much more fun park, and easily makes it a one day park, contrary to what many say. I think people overlook these experiences a bit. The Tusker House character breakfast and lunch is nice too. I think all of these things make AK a good place for somebody with physical challenges -- lots they can participate in fully, plenty of shade breaks during a hot part of the year.

Last year, I noticed that the waterparks do accommodate people with disabilities, but I wondered whether there was really enough available to make it fun for most people with challenges. They are great waterparks, but most of the fun requires being comfortable in the water and the sun and able to handle the usual bit of controlled chaos in the water independently (i.e., the plunge at the end of a slide, or getting hit with a wave in a tidal pool).

Thank you for all of the suggestions. I really wanted to try the lunch with an animal expert, but it seems that the minimum age is 8 no that's a no go. I do have reservations at 3 restaurants in Epcot that we haven't been to yet, including Teppan Edo. I was thinking about maybe doing the dessert party, but was wondering about the viewing....if we don't have a reservation that puts us close to the railing, will my sister in the wheelchair even have a chance of viewing the fireworks (I've heard that everyone crowds the railing...would we be able to maneuver the chair over far enough, and would she still be able to see with everyone standing in front of her (since the fireworks will be further out, and not over our heads))?

For now, I think I'll concentrate on getting the most out of planning for SWW, and hopefully the excitement will come later.

Sea World!!With your group having a wide range of ages Sea World has something for everyone.

Boycott Sea World!!
You must dislike AK then too. Or do you just believe everything you see on tv blindly without thinking? I think fat people should get off their butts and walk instead of scooters but don't do around saying that in a discussion about theme parks.
