Looking for something different...maybe a hidden gem? Thoughts on Maya Grill?

I am trying to decide if I should try Maya Grill or something else possibly. I have Trails End booked, but I'm not sure if I want a buffet. We have been to most of all the more popular places, and so I am wanting to try something off of the beaten path. We tried GFC in April and it was amazing! It's now my new favorite, but I want to try something new again in October.

Our hidden gem is the Garden Grove at the Swan. It’s not on the dining plan so that helps to keep it off the radar.

We ate there a few weeks, and the food, service, and characters were all great. Desserts were phenomenal especially the lemon meringue cupcakes.

Maya Grill was very meh. I wasn't unhappy but definitely not impressed. We did have a wonderful server but the food was not worth the price tag. Don't feel the need to go back nor to complain. Wouldn't describe it as a hidden gem for sure

Its been several years since I've been there, but unless its changed, I would skip it. There are much better options.
Sanaa and The Wave being 2.

I can't speak to Maya Grill, but I had an enjoyable experience at Boatwright's at POR.

Sanaa is also wonderful, but it doesn't seem like a hidden gem to me.
Yes! I also had a wonderful meal at Boatwrights! I also love Sanaa but while definitely a gem, I'm not sure about hidden. Loads of people have heard of it although I do think its a little out of the way so a little less traveled.

We have tried Sanaa, and I loved the bread service. We haven't tried The Wave yet, and is on my radar.

I've made a list of places that we haven't tried, but would like to...
Trails End- do I want a buffet?
Maya Grill- is it just a typical Tex Mex place?
Olivia's
The Wave
Ale and Compass

I didn't find Maya Grill to be Tex Mex, and it was a nice place. The food was just...average. Not bad, not anything to write home about. But that was in 2015, so YMMV. It didn't leave much of an impression because the only thing I really remember is just the feeling of being underwhelmed.

Thank you for your input. I definitely know the feeling of being underwhelmed with a restaurant, and it leaves a bad taste in your mouth lol. I noticed a PP said it was very similar to the places in EP. I really enjoy SAI, but La Hacienda is no bueno.

I would say this...I wouldn't seek it out, but if I were ever staying at Coronado Springs I would probably give it another try.

One of my favorite hidden gems was the former Captain's Grille, but Ale and Compass doesn't look good to me. Remaining hidden gems, as mentioned above, include The Wave and Boatwright's.

I've never eaten there so take it with a grain of salt, but I have heard good things about Kona Cafe at the Poly.

The Wave, Citricos, Sanaa, and yes even though Pete hates it, Ive had great success with a decent meal at Boatwrights before seeing Bobs show. Kona used to be on the list but it has tanked badly. Olivias is also one of those off the beaten path that not many know about yet it is usually spot on.

AGREED! we had an amazing time there.

I have a question about The Wave. Does anyone know if the menu changes seasonally or is it pretty much the same all of the time?

We have enjoyed Maya Grill every time we ate there. Our son always liked to join us there on our trips to Orlando while he was working at WDW (and we usually brought one or two of his friends along, too). We also like Olivia's at Old Key West. The Southernmost Buttermilk Fried Chicken is wonderful.
