Looking for some (much needed) CRV speculation...

Just returned from the World 2/10. On a boat trip from VWL to CR for dinner,
our boat pilot announced that the building under construction will be the
newest DVC at Disney. Hope this is accurate for all your CRV wishers out
there.:goodvibes

disfountainofyouth,
Which floor were they up to on your visit? Do you have a picture to share with us?

Conventions!

CR actually has a decent convention business (or at least it used to...) and those folks are on expense accounts!

But they had enough trouble renting out the regular rooms, which I believe is the reason the north wing was torn down and is being replaced by a DVC wing. The south wing will still cater to the convention crowd.

Read about this article on another site and looked it up for myself. I'd say CRV is going to happen and the Treehouses will be part of SSR too. The numbers make sense.

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/business/custom/tourism/orl-contemporary1408jan14,1,5395033.story

And in a recent filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Disney, which has built about 2,400 time-share units at eight resorts, revealed that it has about 680 more under construction at Disney World.

Disney has only publicly acknowledged one ongoing time-share construction project in Orlando: Kidani Village, an extension of the partially completed Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas. That project is expected to have 340 units when finished in spring 2009 -- leaving another 340 or so unaccounted for.

Construction records for the Contemporary expansion call for 295 three-bedroom suites. Some could be sold as separate two- and one-bedroom units.

The difference between the 295 expected units at CRV and the 340 or so number is likely the 60 or so units at the treehouses.

Actually, AKV when completed, will have over 700 units, some in Jambo House, but most in Kidani Village....so the 680 under costruction figure could be all Animal Kingdom.

Just returned 2/10 and we stopped at a booth in EPCOT and asked and the guy said "parking garage" in a simple, quick statement. Then we, I gave him a look, he laughed and said "when you say it so confidently, it's pretty convincing, eh?" :rotfl2: I just laughed and tried to get a real answer, but then he said three CMs were fired over giving up AKV before it was announced to noone is talking now...... Obviously, there are still lots of CMs talking and I can't wait for the real TALK!!!

Isn't Jambo house complete? The 680 is supposed to be additional construction, so I don't think that would include the Jambo units. I really hope we see CRV and the treehouses. I would like to stay at both! :cool1:

The article quoted was from mid January. While the rooms at Jambo House may be completed, they were not all, at that time, declared into DVC inventory. And of course, there is no declared DVC inventory at Kidani, yet.

they can't do this unless they make some handicapped accessible. the plans that were shown - were not!

the design bears no likeness to SSR or OKW - so could not be added to those resorts.

well maybe Disney could - since it is LBV. but since DVC has several handicapped members I would think they would fight it.

It's already been posted that only 4 units out of the 60 would need to be accessible. I'm sure they can figure out how to do that. The Treehouses are far enough removed from the main sections of SSR, that they don't need to match. This would just be an additional section of the resort.

Oh yes. Disney executives contact the Boat Drivers and give them "confidential" information before making public announcements. After all we all know boat drivers, bus drivers etc can keep a secret!:rotfl:

Actually I think they could get away with these NOT being handicapped accessible. There are some loopholes. ONe is that Disney/DVC has a "total" hotel room population that meets the needs. This is the exact same reason they aren't in trouble for no accessible studio at AKV Concerige.

Two, if there are legitimate reasons (historical, enviromental etc) you can get a waiver. It's not easy but... if they can prove that putting an elevator in or a larger footprint to allow ramps would damage the enviroment they might get away with it.

It's the same with the rides. They don't all have to be fully accessible. For example, you can't get wheelchair on Space Mt, but it's not "breaking the law"

Now I think that Disney should bend over backwards to be accessible so I am not saying they SHOULD do this. (However, considering the whining on here if you get an accessible room these would be popular if they didn't have that option :rotfl: )

CarolA - thanks! so they can do it. the Enviroment!;)

are any of the concierge AKV handicapped accessible?

that is so sad for DVC members who need hca.

CRV is fun to think about!

Disney knows that don't have to hype this one. They will release it when it's time to rake in the money. I'm guessing close to the end of construction... in time for reservations to be made!

Unless it is priced out of sight:scared1: it is sure to sell out fast. It may not be for everyone... but I believe there are plenty that it is right for!:grouphug: I'm not sure they will care how much is left to sell at other resorts... they have somewhat of a different market they appeal to.

I believe a sluggish economy will put the sales in motion faster. Disney has nothing to lose. We buy the villas or they rent them anyway... they win both ways! (Developer is allowed to rent unsold villas... right?)

If DVC gives current owners first opportunity... that will probably be announced with enough time for nonDVC people to buy SS or AK... just to get in line!:dance3: Disney wins again!

I still think Disney is holding out just to get their kicks reading threads like this one.:rotfl:

No one asked him about the construction. This was part of his spiel as he
made his stops pointing out landmarks and whatnot. Gave us the history of
RC, DI closings as well. :squirrel:

sorry but we left our camera in our luggage at the bellstand.

I counted 8 floors. They were well into putting up metal studs and sheeting
on the 1st floor side facing the lake as well as the sheet glass windows on second and
third floor center of building-I'm guessing a restaurant or other attraction.:thumbsup2

That's not true. ADA regs require accessible rooms in every level and room size of a resort. See the AKV Concierge thread for citations on this from Sue: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1710025&page=5

Regarding amusement park rides, the requirement is that access be granted to any ride built or modified post-ADA regs as long as safety is not compromised. If I'm not mistaken, Space Mountain has a wheelchair-accessible queue and offers a slide transfer bench for disabled passengers to board the ride vehicle.

But rides such as Pirates, Snow White and the other two montains do not have accessibility because they pre-date ADA and have not had their boarding queues updated. Pirates, as well as Maelstrom, also require disabled passengers board the ride vehicle for safety reasons.

are any of the concierge AKV handicapped accessible?

Yes, AKV concierge has wheelchair accessible units. The trouble is it comes in the form of a 1bedroom half of the lockoff. They are technically in violation of ADA because they didn't make a studio a fully accessible unit as well. Now if they fix it by giving Kidani some concierge rooms they can avoid the inevitable class action lawsuit I figure someone will get around to filing. At the moment, they can temporarily fix it by giving members accessible studios a floor below with Concierge service and access on a case-by-case basis.

Okay, so we're just back from the DVC Member Night. Interesting info./non-info. about the Contemporary...........

At the end, a woman came by our table as we were leaving and asked if we had any ques. (as we are newer members) we should feel free to ask. So I said.........."BTW, what are they building next to the CR"? ......To which she abrubtly (and borderlline angrily) replied, "That's not us, that's an extension of the hotel".

Next, I asked a nice gentleman we were talking with on our way in. I asked the same question. He said, "I can neither confirm or deny anything".

Lastly, I asked another CM who asked if we'd be adding on (all I spoke with were from FL) by the bar on our way out ,but I said something more like, "I sure hope that's DVC by the CR" and he said, "who knows what the point structure will be there"......I was stunned but didn't want to press further as he quickly started talking about AKV in the next breath. Incidently I told him we wouldn't be adding on b/c I'm waiting for an explanation of what the new bldg. is next to the CR. He may have said that about the pts. to say, it's a good deal now b/c who knows how much pts. will be then. :confused3

I was really bummed after the first woman replied. I thought if it is to be DVC, how could she flat out DENY it at this point? But by the time DH and I had the brief exchange w/ the sales guy at the bar, DH was convinced it's a sure thing.

Take it all for what it's worth. I'm still keeping fingers and toes crossed!!!!!!!!
