I know some of you have purchased Compact Flash cards online.

Could you please give me the name of a good company online where I can find them at a reasonable price?

There was a place mentioned on the boards for camera cards before and I can find the link in my favorites.

I have gotten mine online at both Buy.com and Amazon - price compare, there are deals at different times. However, I actually found some cheaper at Circuit City (big sale), and Sam's club - 512 MB card was around $ 60. for Compact Flash, a little less for Secure Digital.

The Eckerd's Drug Store by me has several varieties on clearance right now. If you have one nearby check them out.

Also saw some at the PX when I was there with my friend. If you are in the military you might want to check there as well.

keep an eye on slickdeals.net -- everyday they update with new deals and memory cards come up often, it's usually at places like best buy, amazon etc. Use price comparison sites like pricegrabber.com or mysimon.com to get an idea of what the average cost is of the memory card you are looking for, so you will know if you have a reasonable price or not. Decide if you want to invest in 1 or 2 large ones, or several smaller ones (it's a personal choice, there is no right or wrong to that one)

You can also try pcmall.com tigerdirect.com or newegg.com - they all specialize in computer stuff and have all the different memory cards (newegg is usually the best prices)

+1 for Newegg, good prices and shipping.

As far as size, I always recommend a few mid-size cards. Say 256mb or 512mb, depending on the # of megapixels of your camera. Using large cards, if one locks up, you won't lose all of your pics. Better to have 'em spread out.

I've found great deals on ecost under their bargain countdown section. Last time I got a 256 Viking CF for $7.00 after MIR. It was $23.00 originally and I sent the rebate in and got $16 back. I've bought 2 CFs from ecost and both times the rebate checks were paid. Plus, if you purchase $25 or more the shipping is only $2.

Definately check out www.ecost.com. They have amazing deals. I got one for free after rebate and another for $5 after rebate. I can't remember if they were 128 and 256 or 256 and 512, but 2 cards for $5? You can't beat that. They have really good deals, I don't know if you'll find that one, but there are others as long as you don't mind waiting for the rebate (they are sssslllllllllooooooowwwwww). Oh and I had free shipping, but I think now it's 1.99 shipping.

Thanks so much. 2 years ago I purchased a NEW 512mb on ebay and while at AK it locked up on me and I had to buy a disposable camera. Now when I try to use it in my camera, I get an error sometimes. I may get 20 pictures on it one time, 24 the next, and then 3 another time.

Does anyone know why this happens? Is there anyway to fix the disk or what is going on? Could it just be a bad disk?

I also have a 128 that I use with no problems.

I now use the 512 disk for backing up files on my computer. I'm afraid to use it in my camera. It would probably work for like the first 20 pictures, but then locks up.

Also, do you get the regular disk or the ultra speed?

Try re-formatting the disk. Insert your card in the camera, and the format option should be somewhere in your menu, depending on your camera model. It may help, it may not. Make sure to take lots of test pics before putting the card back into rotation.

The difference between regular and ultra speeds is the writing speed to the card. The more megapixels, the higher writing speed you'll want, since you don't want to be wasting time waiting for the image to write while a "moment" passes you. The ultra cards will still work in all cameras, however.

The last one I got at buy.com was 128mb, free after rebate. Got the rebate fairly quickly. Try dealcatcher.com, sometimes they list coupons or codes that will get you deals on shipping etc, for buy.com and lots of other places. You don't have to belong, just go directly to the site.

Thank you. I will be checking out all these sites tonight.

Regarding my old disk, I did try reformatting. Still locks up after I take so many pictures. Sometimes it could be 5, sometimes 25. Ticks me off as I paid good money for it!!!
