Going to the park in May and I know it'll be hot. Looking for something for my MIL who really overheats.

I looked at the little hand held fans in the Disney store. They were cute and lit up but didn't give off much air/movement. I know they sell fans/misters at Disney but didn't know how well they worked or the price.

Any suggestions/recommendations? We're in Canada.

We have some new ones at the Disney store...Winnie the Pooh, Buzz and Woody, Chicken Little, Dash from Incredibles and the Princess.....they're 5.50 and work verty well and even have a cord to wear around your neck and light up!

The ones you can buy in the parks are pricey - but if they break - which happened to us on more than one occastion - the CM's replaced them - no questions asked.

I have a Misty mate. I just love it! It is not a fan but a device that just sprays you with a fine mist. Really keeps you cool and does not run on batteries. It is a vacuum pump type of thing. I like it much better than the fan\misters!

Haven't yet. I'm on a mission today. Our local store had a fire and has been in limbo for what seems like months now and our other "little" $ store in the mall closed.
I always pick up glow sticks, ponchos and any other Disney items (which always seem available) at the dollar store. I love that. :Pinkbounc

dawgsgirl What brand is yours? Where is it available? Can you or anyone tell me how much the pump spray/misters are at Disney? Can you pick them up anywhere else before hand?

I got three of them on ebay never used in the boxes and they work great. I think they were UPS brand which is wierd but I just got them in the mail the other day and I think the seller had more. I only paid like $3 for all 3 of them. Great deal and they came with the batteries. if you want the link let me know :thumbsup2

I found hand held fans at Wal-mart for $1(back by automotive/sports/camping). A draw back to the misty fans is the people behind you in line. You might get someone wet that doesn't want to be. Maybe also consider getting some snack size ziploc bags and filling them with ice from a CS restaurant or a coke cart. Placing the ice to the neck helps relieve overheating.

Beware of the handhelds from the dollar store. I bought one for each kid last year and they all broke within minutes, and this time it wasn't due to abuse by the kids, just poor quality. About 3 years ago I bought one of those handhelds on a string at MGM and take it with us each year. I've gotten more than my money out of it. My son just bought one identical at the zoo (only difference is the logo imprinted and the price--much cheaper than at WDW. ) But definitely have one your MIL can wear and have with her at all times.

Also you may want to buy the cool neck wrap things that you soak in water. They stay very cool and are great at helping to avoid overheating. I get mine at Wal-Mart in the camping area.

And be sure you drink water, water and more water-stay away from caffeinated drinks.

I don't mean to preach and I know it has all been said here before, but having heat induced migraines as well as being pretty susceptible to heat exhaustion myself, I just want everyone to take care. :thumbsup2

We go in May each year and although it isn't July/Aug. hot it is still hot .

The one's we LOVE and work so great in June are the big mister fans you can wear around your neck and they can be filled with water. They come with lanyards. Our kids love them and they carry them and love to spray us and passers by (actually people begged them to spray them last year ) which my four year old thought was a riot. They were only 5 bucks at Walmart last week.

I have found several at Wal-mart. They worked well. They have one that hangs from a lanyard and points up at your face so you dont have to carry it around.

Just seen some good ones at Walmart the other day.... They were near the "beachy" kinda stuff... $5.00 each I think but they were really good ones... And they had a thing where you could wear it around your neck... This was the misty ones... Looked like it would hold lots of water too...

We have done both-bought ones from WDW and bought at home and brought them...We bought 1 at WDW and it worked AWESOME! The hole was big enough to put ice cubes and water and the fan worked great...it saved us the year in JULY!
Now last May I wanted to be cost effective so I bought at Target at home and took with us...bought 2 and 1 brought almost instantly...the 2nd one leaked and we throew it away when we were leaving.

This May we budgeted for 2 of them at WDW...and yes they replace is they break-one year the fan blade tore and it did not cool well-no problem!

Since we depend so heavily on these for the comfort and mood of my family-we won't chance it again!

Last summer we took our misting fans to the park with us, but I thought the the folding chinese/japanese fan (that I always keep in my purse for when i get hot flashes) was used more than the misting fan. The folding fan came in handy to shade my face from the sun too. My daughter also kept borrowing my folding fan instead of using her misting fan.
