Ok guys, I need some help. My mom found for me silhouette pictures that my family had done on my first trip to DW in 1974. There is a framed picture of me, and then two unframed ones, the reverse of me, and one of my parents. She can't find the framed one of the two of them.

I would really like to hang these in my bedroom, but I can't decide if I should leave them as is, or if I should cut them so that I can hang them in an oval frame like the original.

I know that this is not life or death or anything, but I was hoping my fellow disers might understand my delima! ;)

Here are pictures of the silouettes.

Thats Awesome! I love those silhouette's and I have seen on comcast travel (Searchlight) they actually do these at disneyland. I am not sure if they do it anymore at WDW, but if they do I would love to know. My personal opinion is that I would keep them as is and frame them, I wouldn't cut them myself unless I had the appropriate tool/cutter/etc so that I wouldn't chop up all the edges around the oval. I have had some things framed in the past at Michael's and had to explain what I wanted done, and they have done a great job.

There was a thread on here a few days ago about the shilohettes at DW. I think they still do them on Main Street and Downtown Disney.

You are probably right about not cutting them. I took apart the framed one that I have. It's funny because it doesn't look very professional at all. And the frame is plastic.

My mom said they did the whole trip on $400. She thinks that they must of done them for free, or really cheaply, otherwise they would not have done it. I have some pictures from that trip and a set of mickey ears with my name on them. That's all the souveniers.

We did the silhouettes 2 years ago on our trip. They are very inexpensive souveniers and I hope they still do them on our trip this May! I think we paid $8 for a set of 2 (not framed.)

I would not cut them - just frame them in a rectangular frame and they will look matted.

Yes, they have them. I had a total of 4 done (2 sets) of my DD almost 2 at MK. It was so cheap. Picture and frame was about $12-14/each - which I thought was a cheap souvenior. We got extras for the grandparents.

We have been doing these every trip for the last 4-5 years of DD. They are around $12 or so unframed. We get them done at DTD and we always get 3 (for just that one price). The first 3 times we had it done were done by the same artist. This last trip it was a different artist and I didn't think he did as good of a job as the gentleman that we had always gotten before....but they weren't bad. I LOVE them.

I got these done at Disneyland this past November, also. I loved it! I have always loved them when I would walk past but my parents never got them of me or my brother. I don't know why. :confused3 They are super inexpensive considering that it is a personalized souvenir and captures a moment in time of what the profile looked like during that trip. I took mine to a kinkos and had cheap B&W copies made on glossy card stock which I mailed out to family. I framed the ones I sent to grandparents and great grandparents in cheapie $2.50 5X7 Walmart frames.

I had silhouettes done of my son this past Sept. at DisneyWorld and I bought the frames as well.

Like your frame in the picture, mine is oval, HOWEVER if you turn it around and look where the picture goes it is square. Essentially it's a square frame inside a larger oval. The oval is matted so that you see an oval picture when you look at it, but it is actually square - SO, you can have the oval frame without cutting the piture.

You may be able to find such a frame in a poster shop or craft store like Michaels or AC Moore. OR, you may just want to call Disney Merchandising (I don't knwo the number off hand) and see if you can order frames from there.

Just make sure to measure your pictures first to make sure the square holder on the frames in Disney are the same as the size of your silhouettes. From the look of the pictures, your's look a bit bigger than the one I had done.
As you know over time things get smaller and the prices go up.

Good luck with your search.

great pix. I have all my ds and LOVE them.

Did you consider a square frame with an oval matting? It would look great!

That is a great idea. I will have to go look for some oval matting or frames. They will definately be much bigger that way, but I would like to keep the original intact.

Thanks for the great suggestions!

I wouldn't cut them - they would look great in an oval mat in a square frame.

I love the silouettes - I get them done of my girls with each trip - that is my souvenior to myself!

Oh my gosh...I am no help for the original question but I am so glad you posted this because I had no idea they did these. My mom had my sister's and my silhouettes done when we were children and they were honestly my favorite out of all the pictures she has of us. I am so glad I may be able to get my son's done!!

These are great!!! I had no idea they did them. I'd love more details. Where on Main Street do they do them on WDW and what's the process like? Do the kids have to sit still for a while -- my almost-5 year old will probably be fine but not so sure my 18 month old will sit for it at all. But I LOVE THESE -- thanks so much for posting about them!

I just hired the Silhouette Artist from Disneyland for my boy's birthday party last month. My boys turned 3 & 1 and were able to get silhouette's done. I had almost 30 kids at the party, with many babies including a couple of 5 month olds & everyone was able to get a silhouette. These were a hit at the party, perfect favors. Even adults without children had something to do & take home. At Disneyland they charge $9 a person & you receive 2 photo's. WDW may be a little more expensive. The artist has stickers in front of the kids for them to look at, while the baby sits on your lap. It's a good idea to have the other parent there to entertain the child so that they can look straight. Even though your child moves their head, they are still able to get the silhouette done.
