Our first cruise ever will be a 4-day with Freeport in May. We want to hit beaches but we also want to see at least some of the local sites like the Straw Market. I don't think I want to do the Atlantis or Blue Lagoon excursions because of the relatively short time we'd be there. Our DCL rep suggested only doing a beach at Castaway Cay and sightseeing in the other ports, which isn't what we want to do. I saw a post somewhere that said there is a nice free public beach next to the Sheraton on Paradise Island. This may be a great option for us given that we want to do it all in one day. I'd love to hear your experiences and suggestions. Thanks! :smooth:

We did the public beach on Paradise Island by the Sheraton 2 years ago and had a great experience. Very easy to take a taxi over to - I think it was $4 per person each way. You just walk right on - no charge. You can bring your own drinks/snacks on the beach with you. The beach and water was very nice. It is a very short walk down the beach to the back of the Atlantis. We even were able to walk onto the Atlantis property and walk around for a few minutes. There were a lot of locals selling things on the beach and they did come around often asking if we wanted anything, but we just said no thanks and they moved on. We never left our personal items unattended, I don't think I would have been comfortable doing that, we just took turns going into the water. Our taxi driver came back at a designated time to pick us up, but even if he hadn't, there were plenty of taxis waiting to take people back to the ships.
