I have been looking for new suit cases for a while now. I like the Dakine split rollers because of the built in bags in the top side. Dogfunk has a return anytime for any reason policy, we buy snowboarding stuff there. Anyway I would like to know what everyone else buys. I bought brand new stuff in 06 and the airlines ruined 3 suitcases broke off the bottom pieces and put a big rip in one. I was thinking of getting a hard set from Costco red or black and then putting a bunch of mickey heads cut out from the cricut on it.

we buy heys luggage. I just purchased a new set from them, a hard case set. I had been putting off buying the hard case because I like the pockets in the front of the luggage, I keep magazines, flip flop shoes, even my ipod on my carry on, so the hard cover suitcases just would not do what I wanted.
well, one day I happened to have the tv on to the shopping channel, something that seldom happens, and they had a set of hard cases with POCKETS! I watched the demo they did and had them ordered within an hour.
I have never had a problem with them and the wheels have been great, they are the spinner kind.
good luck choosing.

Can u give me a link to the websight i have never heard of that brand except ofor looking disney ones today. Thanks

Just bought some more tumi since amazon had their t tech hard sided pieces on a ridiculous sale. I can't wait for it to arrive and we have no travel plans for months!

I bought a Tumi suitcase last September. The first time I checked it, the airline broke the handle. The second time, just last week, the bag was completely destroyed. Thanks to Tumi's one year free repair or replacement for any damage, I got the handle repaired and now I'm getting a free replacement. I will not check that bag.

If I were buying luggage I know would be checked, I'd get the cheapest bag which would meet my needs. No sense in wasting money on a nice bag for checking; it's going to eventually be damaged. I would think twice about hard sided bags as they all seem to crack so easily.

I've bought several different brands and sizes of hardshell cases, duffle bags and storage cubes from Ebags.com over the last several years and been happy with their service and prices. They often have coupon codes available too.

Are you specifically looking for hardside luggage? Or do you just want rolling luggage with good organization features?

I bought my husband I new sets recently for our cruise in May, which we ended up having to cancel so we still haven't used yet. We wanted luggage that wasn't black so it could be spotted more easily when traveling. I have a Nautica set that I got a really good deal on from ebags and got really great reviews. I like that it is gray with orange lettering. I can't remember the brand of my DH's, maybe American Tourister? But again I got a really good deal on it and it is bright turquoise color so there should be no problem spotting them. I am anxious to use them to see how they will hold up but unfortunately have no plans for travel until next May.

Prior to this I have had a samsonite suitcase that I have for 10-12 years and it is still in great condition.

I have soft sided now but its beat up. I was thinking of getting hard sided Disney or just hard sided and making it look Disney. But I also liked the Dakine split rolling duffle bag because of its divided areas inside. Its $100 and for that I can almost get two hard sides at Costco.

We bought 2 large (30" IIRC) wheeled bags from Lands' End around 10 years ago that has held up well and though they were expensive, with at least 3-4 trips per year it doesn't owe us a dime. They are heavy-duty denier nylon, not cheap polyester. I love that it has big chunky zippers with decent sized zipper pulls.

Once we started cruising and needed garment bags and also once carry on bags came out with spinner wheels, we saw some great prices in Kohls on Samsonite but the ones in the store were beat to death, any accessories/straps were missing so I bought them online. I like that it's all wrapped in plastic and with original tags, straps, pouches or whatever ought to come with it. Not dragged around the store by kids playing with them.

To give an example, I remember for one cruise with lots of extended family we got my MIL a garment bag for Mother's day (what she asked for).
Kohls had a nice one for $300. It was half price so $150. Then I had a 30% off coupon and a free shipping code. Our total was $105 + tax and I had it shipped right to her house. :cool1:

Also e-bags has great clearance prices. I don't like cheap luggage because I like it to last. :thumbsup2

They are expensive, but I really like Briggs and Riley. They have a lifetime guarantee - if anything happens for any reason (even damage by an airline) you just have to pay shipping to send the bag back to them, and they will repair it. But they are sturdy and stong too - I have had several pieces for 15+ years now that have travelled the world with me, and I just now need to send a piece in for repair (the handle is sticking because it is slightly bent I think). In the long run, they have been well worth the price.

To make them a bit more affordable, the Briggs and Riley website has an "outlet" section where you can get discontinued styles, etc. at a discount. I've bought most of my pieces that way.

I just looked at the heys stuff on there sight most of the sets are sold out of Disney ones.

Just a warning. There was a thread on here about a year ago regarding folks who bought the Heys Disney luggage only to find out the large bag is over sized. Folks had to pay a surcharge for the bag when they check in for their flight. They had to pay because one the bag was too large in size and two because the bag was bigger it allowed them to put more in it so then the bag was over weight! I remember someone had to pay a couple hundred dollars extra for her luggage.

So double check the measurements before buying.

When buying luggage look at the denier count on the tag. The higher the denier count the stronger the fabric is. You want one that is higher than 600

I love my Heys hard side luggage. But....

They get all banged up when you have to check them, the glossy finish gets gouged & scraped right down to the base layer leaving unremovable black marks all over the cases.
Mine particularly show the black because they are a champagne with a tone on tone brocade pattern. Very disappointing :(

I'm on my second set of Hey's - the first were a glossy red & the marks not as noticible...

I wouldn't spend a ton of money, our suitcase came off the plane with the zipper broke. Airline told us, we don't cover zippers, wheels or handles, what is left on the suitcase.
ours is a samsonite their warrenty does cover zippers either unless faulty not by the airlines handling damage.

That's the nice thing about eBags ... they cover their gear for *ANYTHING*. Obviously if people abuse it they'll stop doing it, but I had a problem with a zipper on a 6 year old bag and a brand new one was sent to me, no questions asked. Didn't even have to send the old one back to them!
