Looking for hotel recommendations (family of 4)

We require 2 nights accomodation in Orlando before heading down to Port Canaveral, and then one night when we get back. We will not be visiting Disney this time, but instead thought we would check out Sea World (and possibly Busch Gardens). We stayed in Orlando once at a Days Inn that was located next to a pawn and gun store. We definitely don't want a repeat of that! We stayed in Windsor Hills last time and found it removed from the restaurants that we liked which were further up (or down?) the highway, towards Disney. We will have a rental car, so don't mind driving to restaurants but if there are hotels within walking distance of decent chain restaurants, that would be ideal. We are travelling with two children, ages 8 and 10. We don't need luxury but do need clean, safe and quiet. For our one night after the cruise, we would like to be in the vicinity of the Florida Mall but not at the hotel linked to the mall (more than we want to spend).

Thanks in advance for any assistance/suggestions. I am finding this part of the trip planning process very stressful - waaaaaay too many hotels in Orlando!

have never stayed at any of these. heard the area could be trouble - so when looking for houses eliminated it

I believe that they are closer to WDW than Sea World, but you might try Caribe Royale or Buena Vista Suites. They are sister hotels and are spoken of favorably aorund here. Caribe Royale has deals on their website on Wednesdays. Both resorts have discount links from the Mousesavers website.

I was able to get a night at Caribe Royale in a 2 Queen bed suite with a living room for $118 (Black Friday deal) during Easter week. Unlike many around WDW, it has not added a parking/resort fee.
