I posted this question over on the restaurant board and realized that might not be the best place. I'm looking for a good bakery or grocer near Windsor Hills for a birthday cake/possible delivery. Anyone have any recommendations? TIA

yes Publix is definitely the way to go.

they want I think 24 hours to decorate special.

but if you find something in the store you like and just want a name or something added - they can (here anyway) do it then.

Oh, thanks so much! I knew you guys would be able to help! We'll go with Publix and just make SIL pick it up! :thumbsup2

I agree about Publix. We went there on our first day in Orlando for some groceries and they had a wonderful bakery and some nice looking cakes that you could just pick up and buy. I don't know how they tasted, but they certainly "looked" special enough.

At publix I bought my son a cake for his birthday it was very artsy and great to eat. Choclate cake with choc cov. strawberries and thin peices of choclate sticking up on the cake. He was inpressed.

I too say Publix (the one by Orange Lake). We have had birthday cakes there the last two years for my dd, who is always so lucky to celebrate her birthday at WDW!!! They have a lovely whipped icing, which isn't as sweet as buttercream icing. When I ask for whipped icing here at home they think I am speaking some foreign tongue:rolleyes: .

Both years we had pink tinted icing so it was really girly. Very cute and very yummy!!

What's the closest Publix to Windsor Hills (and how do you get there)? thanks

We use the one on 192 west in Orange Lakes shopping center. There whole bakery has items that will make the strongest will power crumble and be brought to their knees.

That sounds sooooo good. Now I can't decide if we should go with one of those "decadent desserts" (decadent is the right word for those - thanx for the website, Jan) or a traditional BD cake with whipped icing. :confused3 Life is just so hard sometimes! ;)

My son's birthday is the day we arrive at Windsor Hills...I saw a cake on the Publix website that is made to look like presents stacked up, very nice.

You got that right!!! They have a pecan coffee cake that is the best I have ever eaten. It's downright addictive. I'm just glad I don't have a publix where I live or I'd be twice as big as I am.
