We are Islanders looking for the best flights....family of five.....early stages of planning.....dates are flexible.....sometime in spring.....just not around easter!!
Would travel to states.....any suggestions of where I should be looking? TIA

We leave in 39 days!!! First timers but these boards are GREAT!!!:cool1: We too are a family of five and live in Moncton. We were able to find out about a few airlines that fly from the states but don't exactly pop up on expedia or whatnot. We were able to snag return flights from Portland on Air-Tran ...5 of us return for appr $800 usd:thumbsup2. Out of Moncton we were looking at $3500. There are a few airlines such as Air Tran, Jet Blue and alegiant air that only fly out of the states. Alegiant flies out of Bangor but only on Monday's and Fridays from what I can tell. Keep your eyes open and ears peeled and you'll do fine! Good luck:goodvibes

bfamily5 have you used Air Tran before? We are looking flying out or Portland in the New Year and wandered what kind of service and extra charges some of these discount carriers have. :surfweb:

Enjoy your trip!

We flew Airtran March 09, had a super experience, would easily fly them again. we flew out of Boston, no problems, their gate was at a smaller section, easier with 3 kids, no lineup. Easy seat assignment, didn't pay extra, they do charge for checked bags, but their carryon allowance is big.

good luck.

WE flew Air Tran out of Portland Me last January and had a great experience Portland Jetport is about the same size as Halifax so easy to get around . Air tran only flies newer jets .

Thanks to all for the info!!!!

We will most likely depart from Portland for our spring trip :hourglass

That's a great deal!! We got something similar last year out of Boston. Definitely worth the drive for the savings. I liked the direct flight from there. First time for our family to fly together!! I'm really crossing my fingers that I can find a great deal for this coming spring so that we can go again. We are hooked on WDW. Super great family trip.

Are you staying on site? If so, Where? Last year we squeezed into POP because our youngest was just 2. But this year (if we go) won't be able to.We really loved the Disney feel there, and buses etc. Curious to know what your family of five is doing.

have a super trip.

We are looking at driving to Portland so we can get a cheaper flight. To fly out of Halifax we're looking at almost 2K a couple and out of portland its less then 1000$. I'm worried about the drive and the weather. Does the airport have a park and fly?

You should post a thread with this question on the transportation board. They are usually quick to answer on there.

As I mentioned before we flew out of Boston last year to save with costs. And yup we drove down in the last storm of the season, but it was okay. Even with hotel, and park and fly it was a huge savings. We had given ourselves the full day to drive down.
Good luck.

There are dozens of hotels Near the Portland Jet port that have park and fly programs The cheep parking lot at the airport fills up often we stayed at the days in across from the Maine mall and got a decent deal I have herd of other posters getting great deals from Ho Jo's ( call the hotel direct and ask what there park and fly deal is )
