You guys are just way to domestic for me today!:rotfl2:

Hi all

All go here i have been working these last 2 weeks  how fab!!
Loving all the recipes, however i have started the South Beach diet yesterday as i have soooo much weight to lose, i have put on most of it in the last year since quitting smoking, obviously on the bright side i no longer smoke :rotfl: but unfortunately now feel like i roll down the hallway:rotfl: it's not gonna be easy with Christmas around the corner but i am gonna work hard on it for the next 4 weeks then get back on it straight after

I have 2 and a half stone to lose so wish me luck :thumbsup2

Hope you're all good, is it Thanksgiving this weekend??

Laura - I love tart apples for pies - I always get Granny Smiths, but I haven't tried those for the apple butter. .
So - which apples do you buy for your apple butter?

I have 2 and a half stone to lose so wish me luck :thumbsup2

Hope you're all good, is it Thanksgiving this weekend??
Good luck on the weight loss! I watch the BBC show What You Eat, and I'm always stumped when they start talking about weight in "stones".

Thanksgiving is Thurs here. Day after HUMP DAY  . I'm going to MIL for first ever real THanksgiving food dinner there!

Her plan:
Turkey
Potato Casserole
Salad
Rolls
Apple Pie

My additions: :rolleyes1
Mashed Potatoes and Gravy
Corn (although if it were my house it would be fried corn)
Green Beans
Cranberry Sauce

SO, since it is at her house, I get to get there early THURS am to cook all this for everyone. I seriously don't mind, but sometimes I just feel like this could be more effiently done at my house - my kitchen. Then again, I know hers just as well as mine at this point. :rotfl2:

It is official, Mr. C is on his way home, and he no longer has a blackberry!
:rotfl2: :cool1: :lmao: :dance3: :yay: :cheer2:

At least until he starts his new job next month. How will he live without that thing going off all night/day?

Renee: Congrats to Carlos!

Laura: You are sounding like Martha...:rolleyes1

Kara: Thanks for all the recipes! I'll have to print these out when I'm not in bed! I love your apple butter idea! I'll have to give it to my mom - they have a ton of apples.

Last year I made Russian Tea Mix and put it in Jars with the directions for gifts. Special friends also got a set of holiday mugs with theirs! It went over really well! I think I might do that one again, although it does get a little spendy.

I'll post the recipe tomorrow.

Tell Cammie hello!

Erin! Nice to hear from you! Good luck on dropping the stones! :flower3:

Jillian: Bummer about your test - hope it gets done right this time.

Tomorrow will be spent cleaning so our house is somewhat presentable on Thursday when my parents come over.

Menu: Turkey with stuffing and Spiral sliced Ham (I make that with a can of coke poured over it!) Mashed Potatoes and gravy, Sweet Potatoes, corn souffle, green salad, fruit salad, rolls and cranberries. My mom is bringing pies and rolls.

Okay, getting tired - I must get some sleep - if I don't check in:

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE! :grouphug:

Hiya all,

Erin - I also have (ahem...) a few ..... stone to lose..... I'm good at the stick your head in the sand and ignore it diet....:goodvibes Last time I cut snacks totally and controlled portion sizes - worked for about 8 months - trouble is I love food, so the weight snuck back on....

Renee - a stone is 14 pounds

I love all the recipes by the way! Never knew what apple butter was before... sounds really nice. Granny Smiths are part of the staple diet over here - they are seen as an eating apple.. my kids have them in their school lunchbox..

Anyhow, got to go bake a sticky ginger cake for the school Christmas fete - after I bought half the ingredients - I'm sure it is cheaper just to buy a cheap cake, but it wouldn't quite be the same ....

Tessa

Have you ever tried it with a can of Dr Pepper and and a can of apricot nectar & brown sugar. My grandma always put pineapple rings and put a cherry in the center with tooth picks. Man, I really miss her this time of year especially!

Tessa - Yes you could get a cheaper one, but you are so right, it wouldnt' be the same. I doubt I would be raving over a prebought ham the same as the one my grandma made from scratch. You're always so involved with the kids. I'm certain, that will always be something they love (okay, so maybe once they are OLDER and GET IT! )

Kara - I was going over the recipes last night and saw that you recommend the FIJI apples - DUH! :)

Okay, off to enjoy my DH being home. He is so out of sorts. He looked like he could cry last night. 10 years of being there night and day for a company and he said they were all like "see ya" and that was it. :sad2:

He's taking Nicolas to a play date today, so I get to have lunch with the mom & Mia. A GIRLS day! Woo - hoo!

Okay one last thing - on the Disney Rewards Visa, I had been holding off on getting one so that I could get it before we booked our trip because they generally say that you can do 6-12 mo interest free on your trip. Is that for life or just a one time thing? I'm wondering if there is more value to getting it now, or waiting.

With the Economy, Carlos wants to put off our trip next year. I'm getting unhappier by the second with that idea.

Tammie - I've done the spiced tea mix and given that as gifts too - also a hot cocoa recipe my mom gave me. Just make a big batch of the mix and put it in mason jars with instructions.

One year I did homemade bath salts. I made peppermint and layered it red/white. It was cute. It's just epsom salt and a few drops of the scented oil. And then I used food coloring for the red part. This is what I use in my bath all the time. Jeff got me a bunch of scented oils for my stocking one year, and since it only takes a few drops....... needless to say, I've got a ton of it!

Jillian - what tests??? What did I miss?

OK i thought I was the only one that was in their own world when it comes to Jillian tests. Hope all is okay...

Off to the gym. I don't want to go. we are all fighting som yuck, but our ins. reimburses us $40 a month if you hit 12 times. Real motivation to keep going.

if I miss anyone HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!

I'm not having any tests done for Now I think Tammie may have confused me and someone else? Wasn't one of you getting a repeat PAP? Thanks for being concerned though.

So Mike's Truck broke down which leaves us with one car because our Mechanic is gone for the week so he took my car today and my wallet along with it. I feel like a prisioner! He is gone until tomorrow morning. :headache:

Well I am going out with my mother today and I am going to get the Paper for the Autograph books and Tshirts for our trip. Also I am going to head to the Disney store and see what is on sale.

Well everyone sounds so busy with their Holiday plans and funny thing is I am all done I just had to bring dessert this year. This is the first year in 3 years Thanksgiving has not been at my house.

Well If I don't get back on today everyone have a SAFE and Happy Holiday!

Hi! I'm sure everyone is busy cleaning and cooking! I wanted to tell you about a way to get a very juicy turkey!

I did this by accident one time, and I have loved it since~

I fix my turkey with butter rubbed on it, and salted all over it - I preheat the oven to 500 degrees - I put the turkey in at that temp for the first 15 minutes, and then I turn it down to the usual 325 for the rest of the time. This seals in the juices and makes even the cheap turkey really, really juicy - saves money - don't have to buy the butterball injected ones!

HAPPY TURKEY DAY EVERYONE!

P.S. Sorry Jillian - maybe it was Renee? I don't know how I did that?
~

I was the pap one - it was just a repeat because of lack of cells for the first one, so no real issue I don't think other than they just didn't do enough swabbing. LUCKY ME! I had it done yesterday and joked she should make extra passes so I don't have to do it again!

Tammie - I went to William Sonoma's Turkey classes last year. They suggested compound butter (butter softened to room temp with herbs mixed in) and you actually (I use gloves) seperate the skin and put the butter in between the skin and the meat and then on top of the skin too. They also suggest brining it (soaking in salt/herb water solution). I did it and everyone raved about the turkey.

They said stuffing it to be most wasn't the best option for the stuffing, that doing citrus fruit was a better option. I did oranges and a lemon last year and it was great!

okay off to take Mia to the dr.

Shame shame on the stuffing! We have always done that too, but were watching Alton Brown on Food Network (I love him!!!) and he said that is where the bacteria hang out - since the inside of the turkey is the last to cook.

Tammie - love that idea! I may have to tell Jeff about that one! We have fried turkeys the last couple of years - so good and juicy! But to buy the peanut oil costs about $60-80 the first time. After that you can keep it and use again later, but that initial cost is rough!

Wanna hear a scary way to get a juicy turkey? We also did this by accident our first year together. We bought a frozen turkey the night before Thanksgiving and stayed up til 1am soaking it in cold water and draining the water every 30 minutes and refilling it. The next day when Jeff pulled all the stuff out of the inside, he was pulling out big ice chunks, too. We laughed but it was so juicy!

I think he'll like that 500 deg idea though!

Well, the inlaws should be pulling up any time now, so I may not get a chance to hop back on until later!

Here's wishing everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving!!!

Have an awesome Thanksgiving everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am thankful for all of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Awe - I am thankful for you, too! Also for all of the other good friends here! :grouphug:

Kara - I know they say that about the stuffing, but come on! We've been eating it for how many years? It never tastes the same unless you bake it in the bird! However, we did stuff one with lemons and cook it on the grill one time - it was great! Missed the stuffing. I love your juicy turkey story! :rotfl2:

Congrats Erin!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Enjoy your families! :grouphug:

Tammie - I know, about the stuffing, Jeff always says the same thing. About so many other things, too - "our parents did such and such and we're still alive...." I've never been a stuffing fan though, so Stove Top works for me!

And since we've been deep frying the last couple, we haven't stuffed him anyway, so I guess we've just kind of gotten away from it.

The inlaws got here around 4ish yesterday and MIL and I made a couple of casseroles for today. The only thing we have to do today is the bird, the dressing, and the beans. Everything else is premade in the fridge. I did this last year and it was smooth sailing all day!

Have a great dinner (or 2!) everyone!!!

Happy Thanksgiving

I'm staying home now and Tim is headed to his family. I think I caught the yuck or it could be the flu. I had the stinking flu shot. Oh well have a great time everyone.

I too am thankful for meeting all of you this year
