Looking For Control Freaks & Worry Warts too (Part 2)

Renee - ok, here's my thought on the canvas. I don't think, and it's strictly a personal opinin!!! But I don't think the font of her name is cutesy enough for the princesses. The font looks more modern or grown up? I don't know. Just me though.

And my mom is becoming the same way. I mean both my parents keep my sister's kids all the time, which is great cause they're only about 45 minutes away. But my mother is just getting so cranky and negative. This sounds awful but I just don't enjoy talking to her on the phone anymore! And my dad has been this way for the past several years. I mean, just real downers all the time.

Oh, and btw, they are coming down mid-Sept to watch Ally while Jeff and I do Disney. So they'll be here for a couple days before we go and then about a week when we get home. Oy vey! They wanted to come in Oct and I suggested Sept, plus we're gonna go to Ohio for Christmas this year I think. But with Christmas on a Thurs, we're gonna leave late afternoon Tues, and arrive sometime the afternoon of Christmas Eve. Then leave 2 days after Christmas. Seriously, that is more than enough time with my family!!! :rotfl2:

Jeff just called from his sisters. I asked if he was having fun. He gave the sarcastic, "oh, yeah." Heh heh heh - told him so!

I think I agree about the font. Renee, You don't like the Disney font? I was thinking that would look cute. I'm not an expert. I can send the download to you if you don't have it.

Kara, Aren't you glad you didn't go with Jeff? I would love a whole weekend to scrapbook all by myself!

Renee, I did a mini TR in the first CFWW thread we had. It was in Oct 07. It was fabulous! http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1244337&page=116

I'll be happy to answer questions!

Have a great evening everyone!

Jeff just called - he was laughing so hard talking about his sister. Again, I told him!

So now Ally and I are watching Snow Buddies. We came home from JC and the mall and a bunch of running around. Got some batteries and candles just in case we lose power, plus some extra water, but already a lot was gone so glad I went out today instead of waiting until tomorrow. My neighbor says we shouldn't get anything more than some wind and storms and rain. As of right now, but this storm keeps shifting so who knows.

Also, we still had boxes from the outdoor furniture we got all piled up in the garage, but it's been so miserably hot that we haven't touched it. So Ally and I went out and spent an hour breaking down boxes, filled 8 garbage bags with packing stuff and took it all the curb for Monday garbage. Then got some reorganizing done so I can get my car in there just in case it hails or something. How sad are we - we have a 3 car garage and can't get any cars in there. We've got the golf cart and lawn stuff in one, the big grill head is sitting in the middle of the second, and just a bunch of crap in the third. So now it looks good.

Also brought in plants and planters and all that stuff from the yard. Oy vey!

Renee - hope you're feeling better these days. How is Mia's bump?

Debbie - where are you? Are you feeling better?

Tammie - that was neat to see the info on WDW and this storm.

Hidey ho to everyone else!!!

Jillian, I sent you an email with that realtor's info in Orlando. :thumbsup2

Omg..I am as shocked as you are to find another NIN fan on the DIS. Did you have tix to the Minneapolis show that was postposed? If you can, I would highly recommend seeing them on this tour. The show I saw in CT was amazing being words. The visual effects are fantastic and Trent Reznor is unbelievably hot. I was showing my DD5 my pics of the show and she said, I know who that is, its Trent Reznor! Obviously, I don't listen to most of their music around the kids, but there are some songs that are ok for them, and its so cute to watch them rocking out. They are also White Stripes fans.

Ok, I can't believe have many pages I have to catch up on and today was a HORRIBLE day at work, so I will try to catch up and post again this weekend. I am so glad that I came back to the DIS and especially this thread. You guys are so great!!

Have a great weekend!

I guess I had forgotten he was going to be in town. Tim knew though. We passed on the show. So I may have chance when it gets rescheduled. We saw him on 2nd pass of the Downward Spiral Tour. Not a great venue and he was mad that we didn't like the opening act so a little to bratty to enjoy the show. I will have to think about this one though. Tim has every single Halo, including 00. He's the real fan. I'm just a long for the ride. :rolleyes1

Kara- Thank You I have the realtor info. I really appreciate it we have decided to use our Sunday to look at houses. By the way I hope that storm misses you.

Renee- I agree about the font. I think the glitter will punch it up a bit.

Good morning ladies...

GUESS WHO'S DM & DSF took the kids (BOTH OF THEM FOR THE FIRST TIME) for 6 hours!!!! :cheer2: :dance3:

I'm cleaning. Got my floors ready to mop & steam clean - 4 hours left :dance3: LIFE IS GOOD!

Off to get my Murphy's Oil Soap ready! :) Sad what gets me excited these days. :sad2:

I'm by myself in the house , for the first time in a year and half, got some music on, and cleaning. BLISS!!!!

BTW - Bon Jovi's Lost Highway is EXCELLENT. Just like older CDS. (Jillian - never been to one of their concerts, so I envy you). Also, Alanis' Flavor of Entaglement is one of her best. LOVE THAT TOO.

OH, I don't know what to do with myself, I'm so giddy - yes I do... MOP! :lmao: I'll check in later - off to enjoy my 'me' time.

Renee - I'm jealous cause your house is gonna be sparking today! Yea for your mother for FINALLY taking the kids! Wonder what Nicolas will have to say when he gets home??? :rolleyes1

Got 20 bags of mulch laid today. Transplanted some monkey grass in the back, and got most everything hurricane ready. Still looks like it may still be a TS by the time it gets to Jacksonville. But I called my neighbor and he's confident that we won't have sustained winds higher than 40, so I'm banking on that. He laughs at me cause I've called twice now and said, "hey, Florida newbie, here, I've got a hurricane question...."

After we got all that done this morning, Ally and I went to the pool for a short time. I told her we were leaving at 2, but at about 1:30 Ally informed me that something "scared the crap outta her." :scared1: She knew instantly what she said (and uh, yeah, she gets' that expression from me! :rolleyes1 ) but I made her sit for about 20 minutes, then we got ready to go. On the way back I had "discussion" with her about certain words - didn't make a big deal out of it, but she knows not to say it. Great, I'll be getting a call from her teacher this week.... :rotfl2:

Jeff didn't get on the road until 1:30 which means he will not be home until 9 or 9:30. And he did NOT get a check from his sister. So I need advice. I'm going to email her tomorrow but I obviously can't say what I want to say. Should I just let it go and the next time she wants to "go in on something" for their parents, I just deduct that money? It's only $24 but it just pisses me off beyond belief that she is so rude as to not send it. It took her 6 months to reimburse me $225 for the HOop Dee Doo tickets. That was just beyond rude, in my book, especially since I called and made all the ADRs for that trip the day after we moved into this house. AND everyone knew how strapped we were because we bought this house without selling our other one, which means we wiped out our liquid assets, savings, checking, etc since we weren't getting our equity out of our other house until we sold it. So we had to put everything on credit cards for about 2 months, to show the bank we had money in savings when we closed. It was scary. Then we had to start saving from scratch (and pay off all those ccards!) right after we moved in. I told Jeff I should have charged her interest on that money! And her excuse? "We're really short on money cause we're buying a new house." WTH??? At least they sold their other one before they moved! And they didn't move in until Feb - I made the ADRs in Nov. So, do I email her and tell her to send it? Or just let it go and use it when I need it? I'm afraid if I email her I'll be a B**** about it. That's the only language she understands anyway! :rotfl2:

So I'm heating up a casserole we had on Thursday night. It was just a shepherds pie but when Ally wakes up from nap she's gonna be upset cause she's like me - doesn't like leftovers! But if Jeff knows we ate out every meal while he was gone he'll be so mad!

And he did NOT get a check from his sister. !

Goodness! Is that the one she told you she put in the mail a month or so ago???? That chick is a piece of work. You might want to let it go, because I promise you it is causing you more grief than the $24. I know it is just the point - but still, she honestly doesn't care. Then again, she needs someone to stand up to her. Decisions, decisions.

Okay, so my vote is to slip it in that you still haven't gotten it. Just next time you talk to her - cause I know you guys talk daily :lmao: say, "I can't believe Jeff left there without picking that check up from you - do you mind just slapping it in the mail?" Maybe that would work? Don't call her a B though, we all know that she IS, but that would cause more disruption in the family than what it is worth.

My advice for today - free. :lmao:

MY FLOORS are so squeeky clean - or they were. Nicolas comes home - inverts the cup and starts sprinkling milk from the sippy all over the hardwood. Seriously, is he just crazy! Then my little pink eyed daughter who naps about 4 hours a day only slept 1 hour. She normally drinks about 14 oz a milk in 6 hours - well she had 4 there. Why 4? Because if "she doesn't sit the sippy down just so, it gets MAY leak". So I have a cranky baby who is starving and a little boy who is now saying "CUT!" when you are talking to interrupt you (thank you DSF). :sad2: Then Carlos asks is it even worth it for them to get out and come back acting like heathens. What could I say, he had a point.

But, pain or not, I'm very thankful to have had the 6 hours to clean. I mopped hardwood, tile and steamed carpets. Finished the Wall Art - sorta, at least until I get the time to redo the font. Since I'm having guests Tuesday, I decided to just leave it as is, and then change out the font when i have time. It is very easy to remove - so shouldn't be a biggy. Mia LOVES it! She just keeps saying "WOW! PRINCESS! WOW!" So cute. I'm glad I decided to do it for her, because she LOVES that room. I'm still working on it - but a bit at a time.

I gave Nicolas the choice of Cars or Wild Animals for his room - um - yep, I'll be doing his room in more WILD ANIMALS. I've about decided that I really think Poly will work so much better with our plans in May, but I get such terrible guilt at the pit of my stomach about it. That little boy has always loved animals -but Zebras have ALWAYS been his thing. :sad2:

Okay, off to enjoy some time with Carlos. Okay, really, off to fold the laundry that is on the bed before he pitches it in the floor and I get all  . :rotfl2:

Goodnight my CIFs! :flower3:

Kara - I"m so disconnected with the world. Haven't watched the news for at least a month. ARE YOU GOING TO HAVE A HURRICANE? I need to see what is going on. I hope you stay safe. 40 mph winds are stronger than you think. We get them here and they flipped our dining set outside! :scared:

Hi Kara! I agree with Renee - I know it makes you mad, but she is stealing your joy. The next time you want to "go in" on something, I would say, "you know, why don't you go ahead and purchase this time, and I'll send you my half." Then deduct the $24 from your payment.

I'm glad you probably won't have a hurricane.

Renee, You really got alot done! My kids left town for a fews days, so I did some badly needed cleaning and then Dana and I scrapped for about 6 hrs, minus time to eat dinner.

Oh, we had fish on the grill, and I made a delicious mango salsa to go on it - I surprised myself - I was channeling my inner Kara! :goodvibes

2 Fresh Mangos
1 Lg cucumber
1 bunch cilantro
4 sm jalapenos
1 red onion
1/4 c. Lime juice
Salt & Pepper

Chop all the fruit and veggies, mix with lime juice and S&P to taste
Chill for 1 hr before serving.

I am looking forward to getting some work done tomorrow.

Tammie - that is one of our favorite fish dishes!!!! Jeff found a mango salsa recipe on recipezaar.com and it looks almost identical! Like I would know, all I do is set the table! :rotfl2: So light, refreshing and yummy! :goodvibes

OK, so I won't say anything about the check. I know it is stupid - $24 lousy dollars but it is so just the point! Jeff was making fun of them last night - their friends came over for the bday party and all they talked about was eco-friendly this and eco-friendly that and NPR this and NPR that. So they have solar landscape lighting, and had a retaining wall built that was "eco friendly" meaning the guy dug by hand and didn't use electricity. But they have not replaced any light bulbs with flourescent ("they're too expensive!") and use disposable diapers ("cloth diapers are gross!") and drive a Jeep Cherokee ("we need the room"). So in essense they are posers - they want to be eco-friendly - which I'm all for if possible! - but only if it convenient for them, and to look good in front of their friends. :sad2:

I wish I was more eco-friendly. I have changed almost all my lightbulbs to the flourescents, and we're going to start to recycle (I need to call the company today to get the bins). Luckily I don't use much gas either. And I try to buy eco-friendly cleaning products. I figure every little bit helps, huh?

Does anyone have a hard floor steamer? I think that's what I need for all my tile floors, to help keep the grout clean. Regular mopping just lets the water settle in the grout and they get so discolored! I need to get on my hands and knees with a grout brush every 6 months or so and bleach the grout. NOT what I want to keep doing! So Jeff suggested a steamer. I just don't know much about them.

Ally is a big 2nd grader today! I'll post her first day of school pics later!

good luck with school.

I have steamer and I am not too impressed with it. It is not a specific floor steamer but one that can be used throughout the house. Works okay. just a pain to lug out. Can't say how it would work in a larger area though.
I have tile in by bath and hit it with a grout cleaner once a year and then seal it afterwards. It stays good for about 9 mos.

mine is an older version of this.

Kara...I know how frustrating in-laws can be. I have had major problems with my FIL and DH insisted on bringing them on vacation THREE times! Our WDW in April was horrific and now DH finally agrees that he is not coming anymore. I will share that story soon. I was LOLing at the`"eco-friendly" people. DH is into all of that stuff and I am trying to "go green" when I can. He wanted to get a Prius last year and I thought it was kind of silly, but we did get it and I am glad! We got it before gas prices skyrocketed and its great on mileage. I went from NJ to CT and back on one tank of gas! Its kinda hard to take people seriously as being green if they have a Jeep Cherokee;)

Renee...I am jealous that you got to clean uninterupted! How sad is that? I would love one day to just clean and organize all by myself. A few months ago, I had a few hours to myself, so I decided it would be a good idea to have a glass of wine and clean. Well, there was only one glass left and I wanted more, so I decided to make Raspberry Stoli and cranberry juice, except that I don't usually make mixed drinks. Apparently, I went a little heavy on the vodka, because I was dancing and spinning around by the time DH came home with the kids. Needless to say, not much cleaning was done;)

I gotta run because my DD is climbing all over me and I can't type anymore..hope to be back later!

Hi to Debbie, Pam, Tammie, Laura, Jillian, Cammie and anyone else I am forgetting:goodvibes I am still getting to know everyone!

My kids left town for a fews days, so I did some badly needed cleaning and then Dana and I scrapped for about 6 hrs, minus time to eat dinner.

Oh, we had fish on the grill, and I made a delicious mango salsa to go on it .
Oh, I'm so glad you got some alone time and you got to do something fun for yourself. That salsa you made sounds wonderful! Nothing quite like salsa. We have a local Baja place that makes a pineapple salsa that is to die for - oddly enough, it is just a red tomato based salsa with pineapple - but man is it yummy.

OK, so I won't say anything about the check.

Eco friendly - I heard them say that if every family could do only one thing, that would make a big difference. We do use the lightbulbs, and honestly, I love not having to change them so much. Have you tried Method cleaners? They are great too - I buy one that has no scent which is wonderful. Cloth diapers are gross - but I use Chlorine Free Seventh Generation ones. You can even get them at Babies R Us these days. I too need to get into recycling. By far that is our big downfall.

Steam cleaner - I was going to recommend one like Laura has, but I guess it isn't the hot stuff they say. I am having the same problem. Mine haven't been done in 2 years becasue Bleach messes with my allergies so much. I actually have to wear a respirator to clean the tubs with bleach cleaner. :sad2: I feel like such a dork doing that.

Ally - 2nd Grade - DO WHAT? :lmao: Man - she is getting big. Can't wait to see the pictures.

good luck with school.

:sad2: Thanks for bursting my bubble. I thought that thing would be great. Better to hear that now than once I bought it! :scared:

I'm trying to figure out what to serve for our little scrapbook party. I told everyone it would just be snack foods. I was thinking a spinach and artichoke dip/chips (Kara - Publix's premade one is heavenly), I had considered fruit salsa, but I might just do veggies/dip and fruit. Suggestions? I have 5 people plus my BF & I. Since it is scrapbooking, there won't be a lot of eating, so I don't want to waste a lot of food.

How is everyone today? I still have some cleaning things to do around here. Oh - I guess I could show you a pic of the canvas. Let me do that quickly.

Here's my baby on her first day of 2nd grade! She was a walking Disney ad today - HSM outfit, Camp Rock lunch box and HM bookbag!

Ally-2ndgrade.jpg

Ally-2ndgrade3.jpg

Shoes from Famous Footwear - I got some black ones that are similar, from Bealls. It's as close as she'll get to the maryjanes anymore! :sad2:

Kara- She is getting so big. I can't believe how much she has grown since the first Pics you have shown of her.

Renee- I have to clean today but just as you were talking of getting your "friend" I got mine and feel so yuck major cramps It actually knocked the wind out of me so I made an appointment because they think I may have another cyst. FUN!!!

Suggestion- Why not Make ADR's for BOMA for breakfast. There is something for everyone to eat and then you can wander out back and see all of the animals it would be a special treat for Nicholas? We have so much fun there and we never go to the parks on Sunday of our vacation so we get a 10:45 breakfast and the sit in the chairs and look out at the animals.

Tammie- That recipe sounds great I have a "Mango sensitivity" not actually an allergy the doctor says :lmao:

Well off to clean. Fun Fun will be on later
