Looking for Control Freaks & Worry Warts - Part 4!!!

Cammie - I hear you about the heat. We've given in and turn the heat on only first thing in the morning so we can get up out of bed.

The girls and DH had yesteday of due to Veterens day and worked an 8 hour day. WHEW!! Busy night - DD10 and I ran out to get her a clarenet for band practice today. After working on it for an hour she finally got a sound out of it. Can't wait to hear what she can do after practice today! Planned the next few meetings of GS with my co-leader, then the re/investiture ceremony, talked about programs and cookie planning and worked on a theme for our end of year play. I'm not surprised by the end of the night I was tired, but that didn't stop me. I ran downstairs and coordinated some lace for the colonial dresses I'm making for DD10's trip to Louise Alcott's house. Don't you know she finished Little Women last night so I have to bust a move to get these dresses done so her dolls can wear them when we go.

I'm so jealous about everyone's upcoming trips! Send postcards!

Pam - I hear you about the older girls and Halloween DD10 is still going this year and we'll probably have a small group of friends. Miss the days when we would take my mil's golf cart around the neighborhood!

What's everyone's kids going to be for Halloween?

Cammie! Love the concert pics! Looks like the girls had so much fun! I'm glad Lauren found someone to go with her.

Pam, I like the costume ideas!

Tina, now it's Louisa May Alcott dresses? I loved Little Women! You do alot of great things for your girls! :thumbsup2

It's been in the 40's and windy here all week. I guess it's still in the 60's at home - strange. I'm sure it will snow just for me when I get home :upsidedow I'm heading home next Thursday, then over to the coast for an Arbonne retreat, then I'll be home alone for a couple of weeks. I'm not looking forward to it. I came here to escape my empty house. :sad2: I'll be really busy, so maybe it won't be too bad.

Yesterday we went to "Donnie Mac's Trailer Park Cuisine" - it has been on the travel channel. It was hilarious! I was laughing before I walked through the door. They have artifical turf in front of the door with old lawn chairs, pink flamingos and plastic palm trees with the traditional Christmas lights hanging around the doorway. When you walk in, there are old couches and chairs and rusty barrels and people eating in an old car and plastic shower curtains and old car seats for the booths. The tables are covered in "fruity" contact paper. There was a little boy eating Spaghettios out of the can! :rotfl2:his mom probably paid $3 for it! The hamburgers and fries were great! I forgot my camera - we're going to try to go back this week.

Hello to everyone else! Hope you had a great weekend!

Hi everyone! I mentioned our adventure last weekend, and then couldn't post pics, because I had to get a disc made. So I'll post it today, and then I can't wait to show you our Pirate Dinner from Sat. night this past weekend!

Sun, Oct 4th. - Idaho City and Thunder Mountain Railroad (for real)- I wanted more pics of this little historical mining town and then we had tickets for a Oktoberfest train ride on the other side of the mountain in Horseshoe Bend. We thought we'd "just drive across" the back way from Idaho City to the train. Well, mother nature made it for an adventurous day for us!

When we took off it was raining, and just before we climbed up the mt. to Idaho City, we were in the snow. We stopped at Trudy's Kitchen, a country cafe for breakfast. There we met the owner, Trudy who is our age. I talked with her because she looks just like some of Jim's cousins - same mannerisms and everything. Well, it turns out they might be distant relatives! When I asked if she knew any Manfull's, her answer, "I don't think so honey, but great grandma said she screwed 'em all, so we might be related! ":rotfl2: We're going to check it out. His family was all over Idaho and Oregon and so was hers - both very large families with Indian Ties.

Anyway, Trudy informed us that we'd better get going, cuz our road over to the train was "dirt." "What are you driving?" "Does your van have front wheel drive?" "You'll be fine, but let me draw you a map!" We were going to be very glad she helped us!

Here are some pics of the little town:

Looking down on our car and the valley from the church. This week, I had to crawl up some slippery wooden steps, under apple tree branches heavy with snow - snow down my pants, and then the pic wasn't nearly as good as I thought it'd be! :goodvibes
IMGP1116.jpg

This was the fire station. That's why the whole city burned down twice. 1865 and 1867!
IMGP1119.jpg

Miner's cabin - we peeked in - you had to be about 4'5" to be able to stand up in there!

Next: On the road:rotfl2:

Okay, remember the "dirt road?" She wasn't kidding. Not gravel. Dirt.

We had Trudy's little map she drew in hand and started out. It really helped us know which way to turn. Driving through about 6 inches of slippery snow and mud with no gravel for 30 miles was pretty interesting. We were four wheelin' in my poor van. Also, I had lost a wheel weight, so our traction control wasn't working. (got it fixed yesterday).

We found we were on the back side of the Bogus Basin ski resort - narrow road with campers and trucks coming down the hill at us - people stopped all over the place to pick huckleberries, so we did too! :thumbsup2

Beaver house - we saw "moose crossing" signs and were hoping to see moose, but no luck.

Finally out of the snow!

We made it over to the train with about 20 minutes to spare! Tomorrow, I'll post the train ride.

As for what to do with a snake when you kill it - add onions, garlic, tomatoes and long slow cooking!! Had some at a Chinese restaurant once - yum!!! I kind of wanted to hate it, but it was toooo nice....

Tessa

:scared1:

Oh! News! I did it! :cheer2: I booked a 6 night Pacific Coast cruise for April 2011! I know - way in the future, but we needed to use those extra points I was stewing about and it just seemed like the thing to do! It will all be on points, and we got a Cat 9A, which used to be an 8. Deluxe Ocean View! :yay::yay::yay::yay::yay: Okay, I'll sit down now.

Yay Tammie!!!! So exciting!

Quick flyby - I just skimmed about 3 pages. Saw Cammie's pics of the JB concert - awesome as always!

Work is crazy busy and tonight is some science thing at school. I have no idea..... anyway, I'll try to catch up soon!

Hi, guys!:hippie:

I cannot believe that I am in the 30-day range! OMG. So much to do! We have something going every Sat & Sun until we leave for the trip - Band stuff, GS stuff, Tay's family bday stuff, Tay's friend bday party, church youth auction...My favorite part of the trip - the anticipation, is going by way too fast, IMO!

Tammie - Your pics are gorgeous! A couple of them look just like postcards! How fun! You always do the "funnest" things! The trailer park restaurant sounds neat, and how cool about Jim possibly being related to that lady!

It's hump day tomorrow! I do rush the work weeks.

Is Debbie back?

I hope that all of you sickies get better soon! Seriously. I am praying hard for no sickness in this house before our trip (or during or after).:cloud9:

:grouphug:

Hey Pam! I got a text pic from Debbie this morning. She was sitting on a lovely beach, surrounded by blue skies. I was sitting on my couch, wrapped in a blanked to keep warm from the 40 degree weather and watching the pouring rain fall. She's such a brat. I think she's leaving soon though.

Can't believe you leave within a month! :cool1:

Tammie - those pix are beautiful. I do love snowy scenes. :)

Kara - glad to hear you're feeling better. Thanks for the compliments on the JB pix.

It was lovely having a three day weekend but man, we are all dragging today! It's 9pm and I can barely keep my eyes open. I have to wait until 10 for Amanda's nurse then I'm off to bed!

Hope to chat more tomorrow.

Hiya all,

gettin better! I can breathe.....

Tammie - we'd call your road a "scenic route" - in our house it's not a proper trip if there's no grass growing in the middle of at least one road!!

Just mooching about - don't want to go back to work.... these 2 days off have really made a difference - even though I've been unwell the house is cleaner, the laundry done ..... thinking about things longer term, must discuss with hubby just how things will go - with his dad being ill and his mum not coping great, maybe I'll end up doing the caring, maybe not.. so need to think about work, getting the house "right" - lots of "big" issues...

Tessa

Lydia, January will be here before you know it.

Baby B, :rotfl: Love it!

Pam, Debbie is back - I chatted with her on FB last night. She's not happy about the cold weather. :sad2:

Cammie, Hope you got your rest last night.

Thanks everyone for your compliments on my pics! Lots of beautiful scenery to film around here.

Tessa - glad you're doing better and you got some things done. Sounds like you have some hard decisions to make. I'll be thinking of you!

Had a big blow out with Jim last night about the computer. He's upset that I spend so much time talking to "strangers." He wants me to sit on the couch and watch old sports reruns and old tv reruns with him. I just want to bang my head against something when we do that. He doesn't understand my interest in "other people." Hello? I haven't had time to have friends for a long time - he doesn't talk to me -just not a talker. I need someone to talk to. I keep telling him we need to have people over for dinner or something so we can have some "couple friends." He doesn't understand that, either. But, we've been hanging out with all his work friends here:headache:

I need to go back to keeping the laptop put away until he goes to bed. He is worried that I'm being unsafe. He still doesn't get the DISmeet thing. He's upset about me wanting to meet up with a bunch of people on JordanYosh's thread. We've ALL been talking for 2 years, and Jim and I spent the day at CC on our cruise with Jordan and his cousin Wendy and her husband. I didn't think he was jealous, but he DOES NOT want to cruise with Jordan for both of their 50th birthdays!!!! I told him I understand him not wanting to make our vacation plans around "strangers."

He's worried that all you gals might not really be who you say you are, and are putting fake pictures up! I keep telling him that you've met each other and taken pictures - I'm sure that the whole DISboard got together and made up fake identities, then took pictures of meeting up with each other just so someone could convince me to come to FL so they could kill me.:confused3 I am being more careful than before, cuz I use my real name on FB and Twitter.

Thanks for listening, my strange friends! :goodvibes

Tammie - that's tough when it's a spouse who isn't giving you space. I honestly don't think most men understand the importance of a female's need to have connection with other females.

Lydia - I hear you. Then you'll be saying I can't believe it's over! I hope you have a GREAT trip!!

Cammie - did you hear Tony Petraca says it's going to rain Thursday and Friday - why can't he be positive and send sun our way? Plus it's going to dip under 50! I can honestly admit I have turned the heat on!

Tessa - that's a tough position, but how proud I am of you to take the step to help your in laws without hesitation. They must be good people for you to make that sacrifice, your husband is a lucky man!

So I had the 'pleasure' of listening to DD10's mini-performance on the clarinet last night. I just keep on thinking that it WILL get better the more she practices. Hey as long as she's still interested then I'm happy. GS Meeting tonight - we're working on our Plant Try-it - we're going on a leaf hunt, make leaf rubbings and then turn the rubbings into leaf people. They have elected to do a end of year play so we're trying to write something that sounds a lot like the Tinkerbell movie with the seasonal fairies to incorporate the Art to Wear, Puppets & dolls, and colors & shapes try-its.

Hey did anyone watch Hell's Kitchen last night. I won't blurt out who won, but I was surprised. I love Gordon Ramsey, he could whip a risotto for me anytime. Did I say that outloud?

Good morning ladies! I'm grumpy today. ONCE again, the ex has called and screwed over my plans. He was supposed to take Amanda thurs. before dinner. Just left me a message that he can't pick her up until 9pm. What makes me laugh is he positions it like he's asking but the reality is I have no choice. "I've just scheduled a mtg. that will run through dinner, so is it ok I don't get Amanda until 9?" So if I said no, he would cancel the mtg.? Don't think so. He does this all the time. Being the control freak that I am, when I know Amanda will be with him, I usually schedule something to do with Lauren. Now I have to cancel those plans. It's not the end of the world but it's aggravating as hell. I feel like I have no control over my life sometimes.

Tina - the weather sounds like it's going to be absolutely miserable over these next few days. It was 35 degrees when Lauren headed out this morning. Supposed to only get colder. I broke down and turned the heat on upstairs - cranked it all the way up to 64. Still haven't turned it on downstairs though. My house gets the afternoon sun, so it's not bad during the day. The nurses must freeze their butts off during the night though. :lmao:

Tammie - Tell Jim to rest assure where I'm concerned. What you see is what you get. Now Kara, on the other hand..................no comment. :rolleyes1 ;)

And men just have a different approach to friendships. I don't think they appreciate the value of talking to anyone about anything. I say just keep doing what you have to do - or you'll go crazy. Jim will eventually get it.

Hi to all! Hope the day goes well for everyone.

I AM back and not happy about it! 95 degrees to 40 is not fun!

Erin, how tall is Chloe? Here is a place in the UK with a Mulan costume, ladie's size. Maybe she can wear small?

http://www.funwarehouse.co.uk/cgi-bin/ss000001.pl?page=search&SS=Mulan&PR=-1&TB=A

Ooh Tammie thanks for that .. she is tall and a small coudl prob do her i will look into that for sure, thanks again
Was lovely to have a chat on fb at the weekend Chloe was excited for me bless her hahahahaha

Tammie great find and it doesn't seem to be more than what it cost at the Disney store. Hope it works out for Miss Chloe

Erin- We are leaving Feb 27th and arriving March 1st staying for a week then driving back.

Thanks Jillian
Oh shame we'll miss each other

Wow whats up with everyone knowing how to knit but me :( I cant knit, I tried, it ended in knitting related violence :confused3 I wanna learn to crochet so I can make one of those monkey, Argiumi?
Oh believe me i cannot Knit, sew, crochet etc etc i am sooooo far from being artsy crafty

Erin - I wish I could help you out with the Mulan costume. I think that's the one Disney princess Lauren never dressed up as.
Yep just keep hunting, i was surprised too but glad as she's on her way to 11 and still wants to dress up

Erin - Yeah on the WDW pot contribution! I haven't been doing so hot lately. I need to get back on track.

Get back on track you'll be there soooooon yayayayyaa

Gotta go get Cj from afer school club i'll be back

Happy Hump Day! Hee, hee!:rotfl:

lots of "big" issues...

Thinking of you. It's not fun to think about those kind of things. Glad you are feeling better!

Thanks for listening, my strange friends! :goodvibes

Strange I am, but I am not any kind of serial killer or wierdo!;) I know what you mean about being cautious. Get Jim hooked on a forum. Darrin got hooked on a fishing forum, and now he is doing the same thing that I do! We don't do enough w/adult friends, either.

So I had the 'pleasure' of listening to DD10's mini-performance on the clarinet last night. I just keep on thinking that it WILL get better the more she practices.

Trust me, she will, quicker than you can imagine. It is truly amazing how quickly they learn, then get really good!

Good morning ladies! I'm grumpy today.

Sorry, and sorry about the ex!:headache: That doesn't seem fair! At least your girls see you being understanding, flexible, and not jerky!, unlike someone else....:rolleyes1I hope that your day is great, and you get out of your funk!

I AM back and not happy about it! 95 degrees to 40 is not fun!

Sorry. That is why I am now not anxious for our vacation to be here. I don't want it to be over! Silly, I know....

Yep just keep hunting, i was surprised too but glad as she's on her way to 11 and still wants to dress up

I'm really glad that my girls - 16 & almost 12, have fun w/Halloween, too. They've got their costumes figured out, now I need to figure out mine! I think I'll be a 60's hippie. I have huge bell bottoms, and I'll buy a hippie wig, big peace sign necklace and some hippie glasses (w/out the lenses, so I can see at night!). I'll wear one of the girls' tye-died shirts that we just did...Do you dress up?

All - do YOU dress up for Halloween?

Sorry Tammie...I think alot of people in our lives DO NOT get it at all but I don't think we are in danger. We aren't looking to date each other or spend money on each other which are more dangerous areas of the internet. My hubby is quiet too though and if they aren't going to entertain us with conversation then we're outa there. I also would not want to watch TV I wasn't interested in. Sometimes I feel like my hubby and I have less and less in common but we aren't going to change by watching each others TV shows, right?

You have all been so sweet and caring today, I'll just post a general reply. It is hard for guys to realize the connections we need to make. I need to remind him, I guess. I'm so glad none of my "sistas" here are axe-murders! And Debbie, you're right - we aren't trying to date! :rotfl2: Funny how a couple of you are even my clients - I have more information about you than you have about me! Does that scare you! :rotfl: His reaction when he's worried about me is to get mad. I'm really mad at him right now, but I'll try to understand where he's coming from, too.

Cammie, I loved your Kara comment - gave me a much needed laugh today!:rotfl2: your ex can really be a jerk sometimes, I'm sorry. You are a good example for the girls. Sorry your plans with Lauren got changed. Give yourself a little pampering time when you get the chance - bubble bath, glass of wine, candles - you deserve it.

I'm going to try to take a nap before he gets home - hugs to all of you!:grouphug:

too quote Matter "I know I made a good choice in my friends" yes we are all friends. Tim gets upset too sometimes.

tired as always but kids are still ill. No school for the next two days. I'm hoping they will get better so we at least rake the leaves up. The snow is gone but not the snow man.
