Looking for Control Freaks & Worry Warts - Part 4!!!

Hi Ladies! I've been gone a couple of days. I was working most of Sunday - trying to get my blog stuff ready so I can post a blog. All very foreign to me. :confused3 Sunday night we celebrated our 29th Anniversary by going out to Joe's Crabshack. It's on the river here, right next to the bike path, so when we finished with dinner, we went for a nice long walk along the river, then drove over to the mall to Cheesecake Factory for dessert. I about made myself sick.

Jim was off today, so after my nails and his haircut, we went with a couple of friends and our Ryan to lunch and then Jim had some guys over for football while I went to a really fun Arbonne meeting!

DL pics next post:

Wed, Aug 26th Dawned bright and Sunny, with record heat predicted! We got in the car at 7:30 am sharp, RD at DL would be 8:30 am, and parking takes awhile.

We were at bag check by 8:10am. and they let us through the turnstiles at 8:15. We were on main street, up to the rope to turn off toward Tomorrowland. There was a little girl next to us who was skipping school cuz it was her birthday, so she and her mom were doing DL to celebrate! She was so excited!!!:yay:

Here's the area between DL and Calif. Adventure. The turnstiles for both are on each side of this plaza.

IMGP1051.jpg

I mostly took pics of things that are different at DL compared to MK.

They made the big announcement (There is no grand opening ceremony here) "Ladie's and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls, Disneyland is now open - Please have a magical day!" Everyone cheered, and the rope dropped. We walked quickly to SM, got a FP and jumped in a 5 min line to ride it. We came out and noticed no line for Buzz, but we wanted to head to the back of the park and do POC and Indiana Jones before coming back to Tomorrowland. We stopped at the castle for a pic:

IMGP1048.jpg

We sneaked through the path to the left of the Castle, and into Adventureland lookin' for some adventure! Indian Jones? Closed. "We don't know what time it will open." Jungle Cruise? Same story.

Left to New Orleans Square, POC? Nope. We crossed over to the path between Adventureland and Frontierland - Oh, from the place near the castle it is a little different - both gates are at this point:
IMGP1049.jpg

Frontierland: SM - closed, BTMRR? Nope. Nothing was open on the whole backside! :confused3 There were CMS at all the entrances to tell us that, "no, we'll be open shortly." Why were we here again? I wish they would keep the pathways roped off it it's not open we walked a long way for nothing.

We headed around the back and came out in Fantasyland, which was open. We jumped right on Peter Pan! I looked around for Mickey's Philharmagic, but then I remembered "oops, wrong park" :goodvibes I took a picture of Matterhorn, which caused quite a stir in the 50's when it opened - Even when I was a kid, people would ask, "did you go on the MATTERHORN?" Like it was the be all, end all of scarey rides! :rotfl2: You don't even need seatbelts! :thumbsup2

Here's a scarey video of the Matterhorn ride - warning, hide your children!
:rotfl:

For you Pixie Hollow fans, this is the entrance at DL. Of course Jim would not want to wait in an hour long line to be turned in to a fairy, so I think I'll wait and do this one with Londynn some day:

IMGP1046.jpg

We headed back over to Tomorrowland, and walked on to Buzz. As usual, I couldn't figure out what I was shooting at, and you even get to pick the guns up on this one! :goodvibes

One more try at Adventureland? Yes!!!! Jungle Cruise was open!:yay: After our exciting cruise with a pilot who faced forward, did all the jokes in a monotone without even stopping to see if we laughed - (that made him funny, actually) We jumped off and next door - Yay! Indiana Jones was a walk on!:thumbsup2 NOw Indiana JOnes is just like the Dinosaur ride with a really fun IJ theme. I love, love, love this ride! It is longer than Dinosaur. Usually, the wait time is 70 minutes if you don't get there right away.

This is part of the pre-show you get to see just before the loading area

Okay, after we got out without getting speared or bitten by spiders, we headed toward Frontierland. BTMRR was open, and the wait time said 20 min, I think it was more like 40. We started to get hot already at this time, and it was only about 10am. This will be a problem later..... I think this ride is exactly like Florida, only slower. Good because the ride is longer, bad because it isn't as fun when you're going slower.

More Tomorrow! Gotta get some sleep!

Hiya all,

Wow - DL sounds great too!!!! Flight is about 5 hours tooooooo far for us though... shame....

Thanks all for the support on the weight, it has really spurred me on this week and :woohoo: I lost another 2 pounds:woohoo: feels like I am back on track now! You girls really do have future careers as life coaches/counsellors you know... cheers!

Life is so much easier when the kids are back at school even though I have to "work" too....

Erin - we were in Portreath in Cornwall - great place , quiet surfy beach no climbing to it needed (unlike a lot of Cornwall!!) - 3 pubs with great food, Spar type shop, bakery, surf/beach/tat shop, cafe and takeaways too... everything you need for a UK trip away. And only 15 min drive to Redruth (civilisation!!).

Tessa

Tessa - I have to laugh. I had never heard of Cornwall until my mother went there last year and now I see it everywhere I turn. I have a friend who lives in Liverpool and she knew all about Cornwall and here you're talking about it too. Funny! I'm so proud of you and your weight loss keep it up!! You're inspiring us to stick to our diet!!

So I'm starting my holiday shopping! I had picked up a deck of cards for both girls when we were at Disney for the stocks and that was the jump off point for me. Tonight I'm going to TRU to pick up a ToyStory Mania game for DD7 and the new Mario DS game for DD10. DD7 has been asking for the Zhu Zhu hamsters and I'm going crazy looking for them. I hear they're at Walmart so I'm going to call a few tonight and then run out. I read the Shopping 09 thread that's out there and I'm surprise to see how much people spend/buy for the holidays for their kids. We cut our holiday budget in half and have decided to make it a cash only Christmas because of the economy. We don't spend that much on the girls and at that we only buy 5 gifts each. Reading some of the posts people are buying ripsters, AG dolls and outfits, ipods, etc. It just seems like a lot. Please don't flame me, I guess I just don't see spending a ton of money on a toy. I'm shocked at how much I'm spending on these games as well as the zhuzhu thing, but I know cutting back was a decision we made and I have no right to judge others. I apologize.

I am slowly catching up but all I have to say so far is

We finally got a pic of Tessa!!!! :cool1: You look great!!!!

That sounds like it'd be FUN though! Go for it. :goodvibes It's got a good theme to support it with.

My kitchen? It was a sad attempt at "italian" or something...I had the vinegar bottles on top of the cabinets and a red/green/yellow valance over the windows and sliders to go outside....it was just a complete mess. I think the major problem was that it was the FIRST room in the house we decorated after we built. So we rushed in, and had no idea what we really wanted or were doing...you can tell the progression of which rooms we've decorated as each time they've gotten better and more cohesive. So now it's time to overhaul the kitchen. I'm working on DH to rip up the carpet/vinyl flooring so that we can put down hardwoods, I hate carpet, and with a dog/kid it's always a mess.

I've found I do this too. Our very first house was like this. By the time we moved I hated every room because we rushed to get the house decorated. Our second house was much better, and we even had several rooms still not toally decoratted after two years. And in this house, we've been here 2 years in November, and the only rooms left to decorate are the guest room, Ally's bathroom, and our bathroom. They all still have the off white paint and no decor at all. But I'm pleased with how it all has come together by just taking our time.....

Hi girls miss you all so much things have been busy and I am exhausted and now have been hit with some nasty stomach bug which means everyone here will get it too  I have started planning our Disney trip for Feb/March and Luca is excited which is getting me more excited. I am trying to decide where to stay we only need POR and CSR to complete our Mods and we have only stayed at POP for Values so I am thinking maybe a split stay? I am leaning toward CSR since the rennovation but POR is so serene:surfweb:

Swine flu? The doctors down here say that about 90% of all flu test are showing positive for swine flu. So they are not even doing separate tests now. Basically telling people that if you have the flu, it's probably swine flu. Lots of kids at Ally's school have already had it this year......

:rolleyes1 Okay, I liked CSR, but to do it over again - I'd seriously rather be at a "themed" resort with the littler ones. Nicolas enjoyed ASmo so much better than CSR - don't get me wrong - he liked it, but it wasn't the "Wow" that he had there. I you know more about POR. Only thing I DID really like better were the Queen beds and the nicer bedding - but again, Nicolas REALLY liked that Buzz Lightyear room, walking out to say hi to BUZZ, playing in the toy story car - and I really liked that we were 3 min or less to the pool/bus stop/parking/main dining/everything. :goodvibes But you seriously can't go wrong at Disney - you just can't

I totally agree that the values have more for kids as far as theming. While the adults tend to like the mods and deluxes more. Most kids could care less about location, or bigger rooms, etc. But something about those big, obnoxious, colorful statues all over, huh?

Will catch up later today.

Please encourage me from strangling a mouthy 16 year old.:headache:

I'll trade you for a mouthy 8 year old who can't seem to clean her room, brush her teeth, or flush a toilet!!!! :rotfl2:

Hey, are y'all getting flu shots for your kids this year? I know the CDC is recommending it for all kids ages 6 months and up this year, but my stupid dr didn't get any vaccines this year! I've been thinking of changing docs anyway......

i am perplexed. I think we may have the flu as katie is exhibiting all the symptoms of it so we all will be getting it shortly. I think we will but I am hoping that we don't get it again. She is starting to feel a little better today but man those fevers are nasty. so we will get it again. I have vacinated the girls and myself every year. Tim hates needels. I just need to get them done

Girls i need your help please

Chloe really really wants to dress up as Mulan when we go to WDW in Feb .. i cannot find a mulan dress here that fits her, i looked when we were in Disney Paris and the largest they sold was 11 and of course it didn't fit as most of her clothes are 12 for her height and developing body :scared1:
Any ideas?????
Heeeelp

So far I know I want to do the Segway tour at Epcot and Cirque Du Soleil (DVC members can buy 1 ticket, get 1 for 25.00)

Erin - I will look when I'm there in 10 days and email you what I find.....

So success!!! I went to TRU and picked up the two video games for Christmas, had a $5 gift card, but then when I purchased the games I got another $10 gift card!!:cool1:AWESOME stocking stuffers!

Went to Target, Walmart, Dollar Store, Michaels and finally to Borders to get the AG Craft book for another present. If you've got a DD who plays with her AG doll and will do crafty things, this book as a TON of things in it!! Check out YouTube for a video on making AG crafts from this boook - so cool! So now I'm three presents down and I'm so excited!!

At Target I picked up a small plastic 3 drawer that I'm going to decoupage with purple and green paper from the $ store and then put purple and green rhinestone stickers on the handles from the $ store and that's going to be DD10's AG doll's bureau!!! I think we're going to do it this weekend and I'll post pictures.

At $$ store I got little buckets for trash that I'm going to paint little flowers on the sides for her doll. Then I got small pink ABC blocks at $$ store and at Michaels had these mini rattles for her Bitty Baby. These will all be stocking stuffers.

Does anyone know where I can get communion cups or mini plastic shooter cups specifically 1.25 oz plastic cups?? I can make drinks for her dolls.

Erin, You could get a pretty Kimono pretty cheaply, I'm sure, then get an "obi" the wide belt thingy - socks in some black flip flops and so her hair and make-up. I'll look for websites - I can even get one from an Air Force catalog, I'm sure. As for the Obi, you could get 2 pieces of material, and sew just the front of the two pieces togther, with a piece of foam rubber in between, then wrap and tie it in the back.

KARA! Is it really YOU? Miss you!

I don't have to worry about kids, but most people say the swine flu is just like other flus for the young and healthy - good hygiene, lots of fluids and rest and it will pass in 7 to 10 days. Unless they have asthma, diabetes, or something that compromises their immune system, I wouldn't worry too much.

Of course, Jim is harping on me to get a flu shot - they got the "regular" one at work - I don't want that one, cuz it makes me sick and every year they say, "oops, we chose the wrong strain" anyway. I think I'll get the H1 shot in Oct if they let me. I'm not sure there will be enough vaccine for everyone, but I'm tired of him telling me about it. Maybe cuz I'm over 50 - can I be a sr. citizen? :rotfl2:

Hi Laura, sorry you're sick there - hope you feel better fast!
There is a difference between a flu-like virus and the "influenza" that they vaccinate for. Influenza is more violent, higher fevers and some respiratory problems sometimes. Just because we are sick doesn't mean we go THE bug they are worried about for the year... you can still get another virus.

Having worked in Peds for 8 years, I would always hear, "we got the flu shot, but we got sick anyway."

Tina, you are really getting into the doll stuff! :goodvibes Your dresser sounds cute - you're just the one to be able to make that stuff. I remember when my mom made a doll cradle for me out of an oatmeal box! :lovestruc I'll bet you can find something like those cups in the Wedding section at Walmart - or a Cash N Carry - there will just be a huge lot of them at CNC.

I'm having a glass of wine and we were sitting outside until the flies got unbearable  Jim said he needed a shower! :rotfl: I kept thinking of the old lady in National Lampoon's Vacation - the flies were buzzing around her head! :lmao: I'll finish my DL day in a little while - have to go sit with Jim while he watches a football movie.:upsidedow

Part 2 of our DL day:

I see I forgot to post the pic of Matterhorn
IMGP1047.jpg

We got a FP for Splash and headed over to California Adventure

IMGP1052.jpg

I stopped to capture this greeting for my DISbuds:
IMGP1054.jpg

We headed right over to Soarin' Over California to get a FP - the FP system for the two parks is not connected. Then we headed to the back of the park to check out TSM! It was already getting REALLY HOT! Just ask Jim.

Along the way, we noticed they have changed the Sun Wheel to a Mickey Wheel - looks really fun and festive!

IMGP1057.jpg

Much of this park is under construction - they are building a Cars Land, and a Little Mermaid ride, and doing some kind of a late show (oops I mean light show) in the lagoon.

The wait time for TSM said 20 minutes - won't get any shorter than that!:yay: I think the actual wait was about 15 - not too bad. Don't ask Jim - he will tell you it was 40 min and it was 105 degrees!:rolleyes1 But he beat me by alot, so it was worth it.:3dglasses

So, what's next? Why California Screamin' of course! :thumbsup2 I love to go upside down in Mickey's head! As we're heading over that way, Jim says, "I really could skip this one - unless you really want to go on it - but I really don't care - unless you want to.....but it's so hot, I don't care...." Hmmmm Okay, do you want to ride TOT? We could get a FP for that - "No, I think I'll skip that one, too." As free falling is not my ultimate favorite passtime, I agreed to skip TOT.

What shall we do? What shall we do? I know! I want to ride the Mickey Wheel! It is so fun when the baskets swing! "You want to ride that?" "Yah, it'll be fun!" "Okay" Then while we're waiting - "I don't know why anyone rides this ride - you don't even get to go around once without stopping - look - it's stupid!":headache:

My response - "I don't need to ride, let's get out of line." No we're riding the STUPID ride. So we ride, I giggle the whole time while the baskets rocks - If you haven't ridden it, It is very high, and then most of the baskets travel around tracks so they feel like they're falling, then they rock like crazy!:thumbsup2

So we finally get off - time to find some lunch - I wanted to have a nice quiet lunch and a glass of wine at the Wine Country Trattoria. We headed that way. We went up the steps in the hundred degree heat, were greeted by a friendly, smiling CM at the podium outside - table for 2 please? "I'm sorry, we open at 11:30!" She was way too cheerful! :hippie: It was 11am. I guess she was standing there just to turn people away. :confused3

So we walked down to the secret entrance to the GCH to go inside and cool off - they have a very comfy lobby! We walked through the gift shop and lobby - stopped to ask the DVC CM about the new VGC and then walked back out in to the sun. It was like speed walking around the lobby. Hmmm - I was trying to cool Jim off - then he starts talking about how hot it is outside. PULEEZE!

We ended up over by Soarin' - so I stood under the cool steam thingy while Jim used the restroom. One of Myles' favorite friends was here, so I snapped a pic between autographs:

IMGP1055.jpg

Now Jim starts telling me that the ride on the Mickey Wheel made him feel sick, and he never wants to ride it again. I told him the heat was making him weird and he needed to start having fun! Then he blames ME for not wanting to ride any rides!:headache:

We stopped by Grizzly Bear Rapids, but the wait time was 70 minutes - not today, I guess. Okay, by this time it was 11:29, so we thought we'd take a chance with our Smiley CM. Turns out her name was Tammy, so of course she was really nice! :thumbsup2 We had a table in no time - in the sun. :sunny:
I asked it we could sit inside - "Oh, you didn't tell us you wanted to be in the air conditioned restaurant enjoying a nice relaxing glass of wine and an ice water on this 1OO DEGREE DAY! - I just don't know what to do......"

It's okay, really - my husband can have his heatstroke later!
He said he was okay, and i helped ourselves to a table with the umbrellas placed so he would be in the shade. We barely sat down, and they brought us nice big ice water that they kept full the entire time. Jim had lasagna and I had a meatball sandwich - both had a really nice side salad with grapes and cheese - and bread sticks TDF! I had a really nice glass of wine - It turned out to be a very nice lunch!

When lunch was finished, it was time to go Soarin' so we headed back that way and flew away! There were alot of newbies with us, so it was really fun to listen to them OOH and AAAH!

Since we had so much fun at CA, we decided head back to DL for awhile. We decided to skip Space Mtn, and headed to Splash! At DL, we sit one by one and we got the front! I made Jim sit in the front and I ducked behind him when the water came over the top! He got totally soaked from head to toe. I got just my bottom half. Thank you honey. Sorry I said you were weird.:lovestruc

We were almost dry by the time we got back to the front of the park, and Jim was about to pass out again. We stopped in at the Ice Cream Parlor. He got a table while I got us each a $4 scoop of ice cream. He felt better after the ice cream.

We looked in a couple of shops and I ended up buying a Mickey Mouse pad and a mug in the Emporium. You would be so proud of me - didn't buy anything for the grandbabies this trip!

Now we were totally dry, so we headed to DTD to catch the tram back to the car.

We went back to the house and went out to a great dinner at Lonestar Steak house with Jim's family. The waiters dance to country music every once in awhile - a really fun ending to our LA leg of the trip!

Next: Lion King in Vegas
