Looking for an iPod Touch deal in GTA CANADA

Anyone in the GTA area know of a store with a good deal on an 8GB iPod Touch right now? Or know of one store better to purchase it from than another? (ie, in case of defects, etc).

My DD12 is delighted that she has saved up enough money to purchase one.

I'm in Canada and I've bought 3 refurbished ones in the past directly online from Apple. I've never had any problems and they offer free shipping.

Thanks. I like that idea. I checked out apple's website yesterday for refurbished iPod Touches and they do have some listed. But they don't seem to specify what generation they are (not that I could see). Do you know how to tell? My DD wants the current 4th generation.

The iPod 2009 release is 3rd generation, 2010 release is 4th generation. If she wants 4th then you need to make sure you read when it was released on the apple site. All the refurbs I saw listed the original release date. Looked like 199.00 for an 8GB 4th generation. There really are not ever "deals" on Apple product really. Refurb from Apple saves you a couple bucks, and on ipod and ipad they always completely replace the housing on the unit, so it looks brand new. Refurbs from other distributors are not always mint condition, so if you go refurb, I would stick to buying from Apple. The only other options for deals are from people selling them on craigslist or the like, but who knows what some of those have been through. On those devices I think it makes a lot of sense to buy from Apple, and have the full warranty in effect.

I like the idea of getting a refurb one from Apple. When I looked into the option, it turns out you still get a full 1 year hardware warranty and are still able to purchase the AppleCare PP on it. I didn't know they replace the housing unit so it looks brand new. Thanks!

Unfortunately, I checked again yesterday and the only 8GB listed was showing 2009 release. Since we're in Canada, I guess we're seeing different refurbs?

I'm trying to convince my DD to wait a bit, but she's very impatient. I can understand a bit. She has waited a long time to save up. But still!

Yesterday there was only 3 options for a refurb. Today I see 6! Very strange. But the 4th gen is there! I'll have to phone and talk to someone. Thanks!

Different sites darn it. I phoned and was told that product was showing up on the American Apple store. When the phone agent explained how to access the Canadian Apple store, it was back to just those original 3 (3rd gen) products.

I was excited when I saw the 64GB refurb for $259 when it's being sold in stores at $319.

Ah well. Guess I'll either convince her to wait & keep checking daily or not.

DD ended up purchasing one from Costco. They are no longer an Apple authorized dealer and selling what they have until they are out-of-stock.

So, she ended up only paying $229 for an 8GB 4th gen. Costco honours the 1 year warrenty, and provides us unlimited phone support for as long as we have the iPod Touch and a Costco membership. Pretty cool!

How about this..they are US but online so it would be a little more in CAD but if you want keep an eye on Canadian to US dollar conversion rates... Good luck.

I questioned the price as well when the employee wrote out a slip for us to take the cashier for the iPod Touch.

He said the online $242 price includes shipping. But in the store it was only $229. Sweet! I wasn't going to argue!

I realize you are in the GTA.. but if you ever get down this way.. there is a place called "US Adresses" in Niagara Falls NY (Google it). It's right over the Queenston border (literally 2 minutes). You can order from an American website when you see a good deal and have it shipped there. All the instructions are on the website. They hold it for a few dollars per week and you go pick it up. End of story.
I use it when you find those deals that are waaaayyyyy cheaper on the American websites.
All of your order info is included with your package so you just provide that to the Customs Officer as your receipt. It varies, but I have NEVER been charged duty .. they wave me through when I declare. But my items have always been under 300.00 or so.

I know it's too late now, but something to keep in mind to avoid shipping charges and allow you to use a US website for ordering in the future
