Looking for advice...new to here

Hi.

Im looking into having our next vacation here. My kids are the perfect age and we are ready. Im looking for some help to all of the frequant campers there. In 97 I first visited FW and we stayed in a cabin. Now that I have a family of my own I'm excited to go back!! Some questions I have are

Will my 26ft TT fit in a full hook up spot or should I upgrade to a better one. We enjoy camping away from other campers so we are thinking the plain jane site is best for us.

We are thinking of going in Sept. My only fear is the weather. Have anyone stayed here around that time. Does it rain alot and has anyone been there during a Hurricane and what happens if this happens?

Im excited to talk to you guys and learn all of the camping trick at FW.

I don't have a TT, but I do have a pop-up that is nearly 26 feet in length when it's fully popped up. I've stayed in the 200 and 1600 loops and have had plenty of room for my pop-up and tow vehicle {2006 Ford Explorer}. I can't imagine that you'd have any problems. the only thing I can think of in regards to that is that my pop-up isn't 26 feet when I'm backing it in, so I'm sure someone will be along shortly to let you know which specific sites are 'tight' to back into with your rig.

We're planning out next trip for late September/ early October, so I'll tag-along on the answers that you get, but I hear it's pretty nice weather about that time. We're normally January Fort Campers, so this will be new to us a well.

Full hook-up will be fine for a 26 footer.

As for rain, been there when it was dry in Sept and a bit rainy. Be prepared for hot and dry or wet.

If a hurricane blows through that is possibly damaging. WDW will take care of you. Sometimes even putting people up in a hotel.

You shouldn't have a problem with any of the loops with your TT. If you like a more private campsite then I would recommend the full hookup loops - 1600-1900. They are some of the largest, more private sites in FW. They are, however, the furtherest (sp?) sites away from the marina.

As others said, your TT should fit fine on a Full site. I always advise people when making their reservation over the phone to add a comment listing the size of their camper/RV. That info is helpful to the Fort assigner to make sure people get on big enough sites and that minimizes last minute moves at check-in.

As far as weather, September is nice and on the tail end of the summer rainy season. I like to use the following chart as a GENERAL gauge of the weather at any given time. It's from the Weather Channel:

It should not matter but again mention it for your comment when you make the reservation.

There is one site in loop 1500 (Partial site not Full) which has a tree more-or-less in the middle of the sand pad. But many trailers on trailer sites have slides so those pads are designed to accomodate them.

You'll be FINE. Relax. Look forward to your trip. When are you planning to come? (what time in September?) Make sure to leave some non-theme park days to simply relax and enjoy the Fort.

We are looking at right now around the week after labor day...so the 2nd week. We are looking into vacation timelines for work but that is when I would LOVE to go. I want to avoid major crowds but Im just worried about hurricane season. The kids won't miss much in school since that would be week 2 for them. And coming from Wisconsin and needing to winterize our camper from October to April we don't want to have to unwinterize and do it again on the way home. I was looking into taking 2 days off for relax/non park days.

I notice that you're from Wisconsin and you've mentioned hurricanes twice in your posts.

IMO hurricanes are not something to schedule a vacation around. If the second week of September is a good time for you to get to the Fort, then set it up. Those of us down here in the Gulf Coast states go on and live our lives year-round.

In the past when hurricanes came, Disney sent campground folks to their hotels and closed the Fort. Although a hurricane is a possibility, I would advise going forward with your plans. Disney also allows you to cancel a room/campsite only reservation (not package) up to 5 days before arrival with a full refund. So if the weather forecast looks rough you can always cancel.

So do it. (And make sure you give us a Trip Report and let us know how it went).

I know I shouldn't worry about it but we lived thur a tornado so my kids freak when the weather gets bad so Im just looking into to see what you guys thought. I love the idea of fort taking care of the campers and moving them so that eases my mind ALOT.

Have Fun. From a fellow Northerner (Minnesota) you will love it and the drive is great too. We try to go every year and have stayed at the fort most months but the summer.

As for hurricanes you will know with plenty of time. I am a property adjuster that does Hurricane work. The initial reports will be a few weeks in advance with storm paths noted well before you leave. Check the Hurrican Center at http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ periodically before you leave.

Other than that, plan to have a great time and, as mentioned before, plan to spend some time hanging at the fort. There is much to do and your family will love it.

Good advice. Unlike tornadoes, hurricanes do you give a bit more warning.
