Looking for a suncreen

My ds5 is highly allergic to most sunscreens. His dr recommended using one that is without any added fragrance as this usually causes the reaction. Most I have found always have some sort of scent...Anyone have any suggestions of fragrance free sunscreen.

Try Bullfrog. Spendy but very good. It's the only one that doesn't give me an allergic reaction.

Have you tried Mary Kay! (no-I'm not a consultant but I was years ago and still use many of the products) It is totally fragrance free, non greasy, and especially great for little faces. I love the way it feels when it goes on-you can't feel or smell it!

Just the other day I "cheaped out" and used Coppertone Sports Sunblock on my DD6 before going to Knotts. I noticed she kept rubbing her face and eyes and realized it was a reaction to the Coppertone . So, from now on I'm only using Mary Kay (especially on the face) of my DD, and it's all I use myself (and have for years.)

It might not be just the fragrance. Do you know which sunscreens caused a reaction in the past? My daughter is allergic to the ingredient Homosalate. We found out the hard way that the spray version of her "safe" sunscreen Baby Magic has this in it when the regular kind does not. She is also allergic to one or two indredients in the Baby Blanket sunscreen. I can't remember them right now as I don't have any more of it in the house, but they are the only two different ingredients and they have very very very very long names. It took us a long time to determine what was causing the reaction. I would definately test a sunscreen out a number of times a while before your trip. My daughter did not have any reaction to the sunscreens at first. It took quite a few applications. Oh, and she only ever has a reaction on her face. I guess her skin there is just more sensitive. disneydaz...thanks, I never knew Mary Kay carried sunscreen.

nowmomof3...I have tried Coppertone, Target brand and one other I can't think of right now, all of the "baby" types, thinking this would be the most allergy free, but so far all have given him a rash

I will keep on the lookout now, only 49 days to go

Most of the so-called "baby" sunscreens have so much fragrance that they can attract insects; I won't use them for that reason.

Try Neutrogena, it is fragrance-free. We use the wax stick for faces, as it won't run into the eyes and sting.

Have you tried Banana Boat for Active Kids, it is fragrance free. My ds (almost 5) complains of sunscreens stinging so we have tried many and this is one that he does not complain about.

My DD's allergist recommended Neturogena for Sensitive Skin, and that works well for her. She used to break out in an itchy rash even with "baby" sunscreens, but not with the Neutrogena.

Oh we have BTDT. The ones that worked for us were the Neutrogena spray and the Mustella brand- but that is hard to find and expensive(and the Neutrogena worked just as well for us) But I do buy the stick from Mustella it is easy to use in a flash. I think the ingredient that my kids were told to avoid was Paba- and that is labeled on most products as PABA Free. Also be careful because the reaction to sunscreen lead to ezcema in my son. We have it all under control now- but that year was a tough one trying to figure it all out. Good luck and really try the Neutrogena it worked for us.(bullfrog did not work for us, neither did the coppertone brand)

I'd recommend getting a sun protective outfit, and using just a little bit of sunscreen (for face and hands). I have had a shirt from Solumbra since last year, but this year I found an Australian company called Stingray with SPF 50 clothing. Stingray has clothes a bit less expensive (not cheap), free shipping and I like the clothes better. I live in Florida, so I really needed a full outfit.

The clothes are hand washable and dry in a couple of hours (and are very lightweight - I just picked up a pair of pants, a long sleeve shirt and hat). Anyway, it's just another option instead of using sunblock over the whole body.

We have the same problem with DD. This trip we used Aveeno Baby. It just came out and it worked great. No rash etc. She has eczema so we have tried so many.
