I am looking for the "cheesie hashbrown" recipe that Cracker Barrel has! I would love to make this at home.

This by far is my favorite thing on the menu. You know how you can get "2 sides" I ask for 2 cheesie hashbrown :goodvibes

Thanks;)

10.25 oz. can condensed cream of chicken soup
8 oz. Colby cheese - grated
1/2 cup melted butter OR margarine
1 sm. onion - minced
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper
2 lb. bag frozen shredded hash browns

-Spray a 13" X 9" X 2" baking pan with non-stick cooking spray; set aside.
-In a bowl, combine soup, cheese, butter, onion, salt, and pepper.
-Gently fold the potatoes into the mixture and pour into prepared pan.
-Bake in a 350 degree oven for 35-40 minutes, until heated through and top is browned.

Is this the actual receipe from Cracker Barrell? My DD loves this as do I, but the receipe I have has sour cream also and it makes it more moist. She likes it better dry. I will have to try it without the sour cream and see if she likes it better.

Yes, you poor guys in CA do not have Cracker Barrels. If you EVER go east, look for one and STOP!!! I have never been in a bad one. It is a chain of restaurants that serve good country food. They cater to travelers, so you find them mostly right off the interstates. They also have a wonderful gift store with awesome candies, toys, kitchen stuff. You can rent books on tape and turn them in at the next Cracker Barrel you travel to!
My brother lives in San Diego and is always excited to drive to Las Vegas(??) because there is a CB there.

DELICIOUS FOOD!! We love the Cracker Barrel. The biscuts- oh so yummy!! Lots of good home cooked food and quite tasty. Definately try one if you ever get near one! We are lucky enough to have one just 10 miles from our house. We used to travel 40 mins to eat at one, but thankfully they built one near us a few years back.

Mmmmmm sounds yummy, but the nearest one is 188 miles away :sad1: , stop teasing me everyone.

Is this the real recipe? Close to it will work too
Thanks

Hum, do you think you can substitute a different cheese instead of colby? Like maybe a cheddar??? it sounds yummy.

Maybe cook it longer?? :confused3

Do you have Mr Dell's where you're from? The blue bag of frozen hash browns has a recipe for cheesey pototoes on it. I've changed it up a bit:

16 oz sour cream
6 T margarine - melted
1 reg can cream of CHICKEN soup
2-3 cups shredded cheese - I usually use colby-jack or cheddar
a little onion powder
a bit of black pepper
32 oz pkg of frozen shredded hash browns

mix the above together & spread in a 13x9 pan

2 T of margarine - melted
crushed cornflakes - enough to mix with margarine

Sprinkle cornflake mixture over the potatoes.

bake uncovered in preheated 375 degree oven for 1 hour.

These are awesome. Unfortunately, they're basically a heart attack waiting to happen - but mighty yummy.

I've never had the Cracker Barrel cheesey potatoes, so not sure how these compare. We usually eat at the Machine Shed when we're near one - I think they're better than the Cracker Barrel.

You can use this same recipe, but stick it in a well greased crock pot on low for 6 hours or so. I don't like it quite as well in there... it seems a bit greasier. Anytime I make it either way everyone goes back for at least seconds - if not thirds. :goodvibes
