Looking for a home for 2 wonderful cats..Update: The boys have a home!

I feel so bad for you. I can't take them, because my two foster kittens are FIV positive, so until they go to their forever home, I can't have other cats near them, and as you have been hearing, all of our other foster homes are full. If you do find a home for them here, and we can arrange it, I'd be more than happy putting in a few hours of driving, getting them from point B to C. They are so beautiful, I hope they get a great home (any chance the new tenants downstairs would like some great pets?).

Thanks so much for all of your help. If I find them a new home near you, I will certainly let you know. They really are so beautiful, under different circumstances I would keep them, but there are many reasons why we can't. One that I hadn't mentioned is that I was in the Emergency Room in early October for an asthma attack - the doctor said I was pushing my luck having 4 cats in my home.

The new tenant downstairs is a cranky old man so I'm not sure he'd want them, lol. Besides, our building is actually "no pets allowed" but the landlord bent the rules for our 2 on the condition they didn't cause any trouble, only because we weren't told of the no pets rule until we went to go sign the lease.

Just bumping to say still no luck so far finding a shelter or a home for the boys :sad2:

I'll be back later with a few pictures we took of them last night - DW had fun in Target in the Dollar Spot and all 4 of the cats have new "winter outfits".

I'm sorry you haven't found a home yet. If you could get them down here to me I'd just take them. I know we shouldn't have that many cats but I would take them.

I just turned to DW and said "Hey, let's take a road trip!" And she laughed and said "Yes, with all the money we don't have, we'll take a road trip." I got excited for a second, I love road trips. I wish we could get them to you!

Road trips are fun! Too bad there aren't any potential concerts up your way. Yes, I've already considered that fact. I know, I'm bad.

i wish i could take them. good luck! thank you for doing this for those cats.

Thank you :goodvibes No need to thank me - I truly love these cats. If we had not taken them in back in August they would have had to go to a shelter. If they end up having to go to one now, then at least I know that for three months I gave them as much love and care as I could.

Have you checked to see if the rescues through the pet stores have foster moms that would take them? I know the Petsmart I go to has "Cats in Need" that I foster for and they have at least 6-10 other foster moms. We all have anywhere from 2-10 cats at any given time. They they go into the store for adoption as they have room.

I haven't seen anything like that here. Our petstores do have adoption nights but I've never heard of any foster mom program. I will look into it and see what I can find out.

Hi, I wish I'd seen your post last week my cousin was looking for kittens for her kids, but she found two and brought them home over the weekend. I'd take them but my cat would probably kill them he's very territorial.

I do have another "shelter" for you to try - it's called Angel Cat Haven www.angelcathaven.com. There is also 4Paws Animal Shelter. Both are in Plainville, MA and are no kill shelters.

Also try this link. They are soliciting donations but you can get a list of all shelters in MA, RI and NH just by clicking the state and search. http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/...C43835.ctgProd05?siteId=3&link=ctg_ars_shelte

Good Luck!

Our foster group adopts through Pet Smart. Most of the rescue groups in our area have foster moms (although very few of us have more than 2-3 cats at a time). I think she has called the local rescue groups and they were full. I suggest she call them all again and let them know how serious the problem is. One problem finding a home or rescue group to take them, IMO is because they haven't been spay/neutered, and both money and time is short. I wish she could get a rescue group to put her on a cancelation list. It would be much easier to adopt the cats if they are s/n. Several here have offered to help, if they have a name of one of the groups doing the s/n. Often, when s/n they are also tested for feluk and FIV, which make it easier for foster people to take them in, if they have other cats in the home. This coming weekend is adopt a pet weekend at many Pet Smarts. Perhaps if you call your local Petsmarts, and get the names of the groups there, one of the groups will let you bring your cats in..although again, I think not being s/n is going to go against them, unfortunately. We won't place any cat unless they are fixed.

Update:

I MAY have a home for the boys! Someone responded to my Craigslist ad and I have been emailing back and forth with her. She lives in the next town over from mine, and she wants them both. DW and I are bringing them to visit with her tomorrow evening and if all is well, we'll bring them back on Tuesday for good.

I'm crossing my fingers that this works out.

Oh, I'm praying this works out for Max and Sage! I saw your ad on Craigslist today. I just love those two kittens and would take them if I didn't already have two 1.5 year old cats. (Mine are a sibling pair also. One is all black like Sage and they both suck on a blanket and purr like yours do to the bear!)

Please keep us updated! I hope they can find a great home together!

Thank you! I really do hope this works out.

I had someone last week who was looking to adopt 2 kittens and I sent her the link to my ad. She was convinced that Max and Sage needed a "quiet home" because they were so fragile. There is nothing fragile about these two! They are very much active, playful kittens. I think people are scared off by me saying that Max is unsure about people, but I need to be honest. You can't just go pick him up. He won't scratch or bite, but he wiggles and squirms to get down and he ducks his head if you try to pet him. He just needs to learn to trust, that's all. But this woman who wants them sounds very nice. I guess I will see tomorrow!

In two hours DW and I will be taking Max and Sage to meet their potential new owner. If it doesn't work out, an old high school classmate contacted me on Facebook and indicated she might be interested. This comes at a perfect time because the cats were absolutely awful last night and ran around the apartment all night long. We were awake all night and I can't imagine the new tenant downstairs slept very well either. :sad2: Wish us luck!

I'll be honest - I didn't love them. The new owner would be a college student and her three roommates. They were nice but I really was hoping for a "family" setting. And they didn't tell me they'd gotten a dog. He's a gentle Yorkie but Max and Sage were a little afraid of him. I think I'm being too picky though, and a bit overprotective, so they will get Max and Sage tomorrow night.

I talked it over with DW today and she felt unsure about the girls we met last night as well. We contacted the girl we went to high school with and asked if we could bring the cats over tonight to see if it was a good fit.

What we didn't like was that we made it clear in advance that you can't just pick up Max. He's afraid of new people and it takes him a long time to trust you enough to be comfortable with being held - after three months he is just now letting US hold him. He also doesn't like to be petted on the head, he ducks and thinks you're going to hit him. The FIRST thing they did was pick up Max, who tried desperately to get down.

Sage was sort of cast aside and repeatedly called "that black cat" while they knew Max's name already. Both kittens were afraid of the dog that I was not told they had and the girls just laughed and said "Oh good, now the dog will have playmates when we're gone during the day". Max and Sage immediately went to hide from the dog who peed on their litterbox . The dog is not neutered which makes me think they will not neuter Max and Sage and I strongly suspect they will start spraying to mark their territory if they live there.

So we will see what happens tonight. My friend has leather couches and I won't allow Max and Sage to go to a home that declaws.
