Looking for a contact person in upper management at DVC

I think the thing people forget about DVC is you're paying for time. The cost of time is the same regardless of if you use that time or not, and you can't ever "get time back" once it's passed.

I appreciate everyone's advise. But - I just feel that the thousands of dollars we spend, we should get much better treatment.
Again - thanks -
P.S. - everyone's case is different - and I realize that.

The thing is that this is a timeshare with DVCM needing to make decisions that are in the best interest of all owners.

While I sympathize with anyone who can’t travel, they need to have policies in place that are consistent for resort owners,

There is absolutely no way to give everyone an extension..and not have it cause an imbalance in the system.

The only resort I think that should be getting additional time is VGC. But, the rest are open and most since June.

We all spent a ton of money and to be honest, I am not thrilled they are continuing the return of borrowed points still. There is no need anymore now that things are back to open...other than VGC.

100%

In addition if they are going to be doing that then they also need to open up 100% borrowing of points 30-60-90 days out as well to offset it and allow those wanting to add on days or upgrade rooms to do so. I won't be borrowing but I want others borrowing as many points as possible right now as rooms go unused left and right.

You understand that is to protect other members such as my self correct? DVC =/= Disney

I understand you are frustrated but if they rolled everyone's points over for being concerned or high risk it would utterly destroy future years with excess points. The points they were giving as an example if you had points expire while resorts were closed seemed to be coming out of DVC's bucket of points though.

Also do we in the future give people exceptions during hurricane season? What about personal illness or impactful events on a person's life?

I am not trying to make light of this simply that understand there are tens of thousands of owners with hundreds of thousands of points that all have rules and regulations that they signed off on during a real estate transactions. Disney can't just ignore my rights as a owner to appease you.

All you can do is keep asking. If you are able to get any resolution of even an extension until July it would be a fairly large win.

In reality a ton of people have taken RCI points when they would have preferred not to.

I would also have said back in August you should have tried to find a renter for the points. You possibly still could rent out the points or reservation you have. I have outlined elsewhere don't expect anything to be back to normal until 2022 at the earliest.

And you know that they have given exceptions for hurricanes and other personal reasons?

OP - its not guaranteed but you might get an exception.

I have read about late banking, no holding and the return of borrowed points, but never that people got banked points to be extended.

But, as you say, doesn’t hurt to try!

Honestly I think what we're seeing is that they restricted borrowing too soon and they might have been preventing some points from being used while there's been plenty of availability.

I have read that more than once and more than one hurricane. They are given current points and then allowed to bank them when originally they were banked.

And as usual, it's not been consistent nor done for everyone. Nice if you can get it but don't count on it because it's not an actual rule and is an exception.

Not sure how you feel about renting them, personally id go that route currently with 37 points.

Its alot of aggravation calling and emailing, and theres no guarantee what they decide. It may not feel optimal if youre not familiar with the process but renting is likely easier than all the communications to DVC. Even at this later stage I’d think people would be interested and find availability for a weekend to use those points. From the rental boards, $12-$14pp seem to be going quick enough. I think the smaller amount of points will be an advantage, alot of people on the rental boards are just looking for a couple days.

Goodluck either way.

THIS.

I am sympathetic to those who don't want to travel during the pandemic. I'm in complete agreement. I wouldn't go to Florida right now either.

But we must remember that DVC is a long-term purchase that includes certain risks. This is not booking a hotel annually.. and you can just cancel and get a refund.
If you purchased a winter house in Florida.. and couldn't use it one winter, you wouldn't get a refund on your mortgage payment.

DVC points are not infinite -- they are finite. They don't have unlimited extra points around where they can just give extra 2021 points to people who don't use their 2019 and 2020 points.

For those stuck with points they can't use -- All I can suggest is trying to rent them out. Even in the depressed market, you should be able to get enough back to more than cover the dues. Or bank them into RCI for the future. It's not like there are NO options.

Lastly, I expect "normal" to come in phases. My optimistic side expects semi-normal domestic travel by summer 2021. Sure, some extra health precautions, liability waivers, masks in enclosed spaces like planes and buses. By fall/winter 2020, I hope/expect most domestic destinations to be nearly completely normal. I don't expect international travel to normalize until 2022.

I feel really sorry for anyone losing points, but try to put 37 points into perspective. If they are worth $15 a point, that's a grand total of $555. Not sure of your home resort but I'll assume worst case they expire at 2042. This equates to a total of $25 spread across your contract per year. Now that is a pretty small problem compared to the membership problem if we all had points from 2019 use years extended. Heck, before I rented mine out I would have preferred to bank & extend 500 points. If the worst problem you have this year is to lose 37 points, you're doing alright mate. BTW, it's not that difficult to rent them out.

I’m sorry you’re going to lose 37 points. We lost 3/4 of our annual points when we didn’t but take our annual trip last summer. It’s what we signed up for and understood when we bought a timeshare. It stinks but I knew dinsey couldn’t roll over banked points for everyone. Hopefully we can use our 2019 banked points this spring/summer, it would really stink to lose another use year of points.

I feel your pain. I had 106 points from our canceled vacation that were extended to November 30....I’m “old” so no way I could go and use them.... I put 100 into RCI (who knows if they’ll ever get used) and lost the other 6. When I Zoom with my kids I complain about my lost points all the time..... but this is the only thing I have to complain about and for that I feel blessed. It hurts initially but as time passes you’ll feel better about it.

Also, has something changed that you can deposit as few as 37 points into RCI? If not then it also seems that DVC is giving out incorrect options.

You can deposit a minimum of 10, and in batches of 10 so 30 of those 37 can go in, or the member can add another 3 to deposit 40.

Can you borrow to make up the difference to a multiple of 10 ? With the borrowed within the 50% limit?

I don’t think you can borrow points to do this so not sure. I would imagine the borrowing rule applies. That is a great question for MS. I have never used RCI.

I am having an issue with using my points with Member Services, and I am getting nothing but a run around with Member Services.
I have tried calling several times, asking to speak with a supervisor and keep getting told I will receive a call, but never do.
When I do get to speak with someone, all I get is their 'company line'.
I need to find a contact name and either phone number or email address of someone higher up in management at DVC to speak with regarding my points issue. If anyone can help and point me in a direction of who to contact I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Gary Moyer

Donate your points to 'Make a Wish' foundation, Yes it's not ideal for you but it does allow you to spread a little pixie dust around during the Holiday season and just imagine how hard it is being a sick kid during the pandemic.

I'm a high level essential worker and this pandemic has come close to breaking my spirit, Too many times I'm the only person in a building meant for thousands.

Now imagine a kid locked away from friends and extended family because they are ill. I've got zip to complain about compared to that kid.

And of course it keeps your points out of Disney's greedy tentacles

OK, well, it would be 6 points, so I would lose 4 if I can’t borrow the 6. I have to decide by mid January if we feel safe enough to travel to Vero. I have used RCI before, to Hawaii, and it was the best use of 150 points we ever did. We went to Maui for a week one February and saw whales. If we can’t borrow, we would only have 140 points in RCI.
If in the end we do use RCI, I will post what the answer is.

So I had a much smaller issue, but one that I believed should have been fixed but the MS member refused to help and reaching to a supervisor may help.

As you know, due to COVID, they were allowing borrowed points to be returned to their original use year. However, they did not change the way points get allocated in a reservation. So, if you have banked, borrowed and current UY points, they still get used in that order. So when I cancelled my reservation and rebooked, my points were not automatically restored because there was a time before they would be returned. So I have 6 2020 UY points available and 27 2021 UY points in the reservation.

What I wanted was for them to change 6 of the points in my reservation that were from the 2021 borrowed UY to my 2020 UY. That would give me 6 more points in the 2021 UY that I could bank. I thought they would be understanding and be able to override the requirement to cancel and rebook that reservation. But they will not make that change. There would be no impact to other members so I don't understand why they cannot make that happen.

Is your room still available for a new booking? If so you can get it did yourself if you still have other current points. Rebook with current points and cancel the other room. I'm guessing not though since DVC would not do that. In that case taking to a supervisor might help.
