Well the flight prices for this coming August are as ridiculously over priced as I had expected.

Having benefited for the past 5 years of being able to travel in October I was expecting an increase of some kind but yikes!

I have my fingers crossed for a blip of some kind but prices seem to be rising if anything. Last October we paid less for PE m&m than what I am been quoted for standard economy seats :confused3

I'm checking various websites daily but to no avail:sad2:

Any one got any tips?

All you can do is keep watching, there has been some great prices end of last year for this August but none recently, AA were probably the best from around £400pp, some direct.
I know a few people still waiting for a deal so if I see anything I will post.

Many thanks Wayne. :)

Morning all,

I was checking on Sunday for flying into NY next aug and back out of Orlando and it was coming out at £880.00 each. We did the same in 2009 and it was £570.00 (ish) each. We have allowed for the £880.00 but be nice to not have to pay it!

I am checking every couple of day, if I stumble across anything will post.

Steve

Personally i would book now. As time goes on and more book there is only one way seat prices go and that is up.

Have you thought of a flight inclusive package via the website..?

It may work out cheaper, can only try i suppose.

Packages in August are a joke. Here's VH quote for 3 weeks at OKW.
Who would pay almost £3,500 pp in economy seats?
Booked DIY in PE, same hotel, same tickets, same Dining plan, all in for £4,500 (£1,500pp) OK I used some airmiles but full price wouldn't be anywhere near £10,500.

Adult price 2846.00 x 3 = 8538.00
3rd adult discount -882.00
Atol protection contribution 2.50 x 3 = 7.50
Peak season flight supplement 30.00 x 3 = 90.00
Weekend flight supplement 23.00 x 6 = 138.00
Fuel apd & Resort tax 304.00 x 3 = 912.00
Additional economy supplement 231.00 x 3 = 693.00
Vaa flight adjustment -101.00 x 3 = -303.00
Car hire 110.00 x 1 = 110.00
Platinum package 546.00 x 1 = 546.00
Excursions 795.00 x 1 = 795.00
Online booking discount -194.65 x 1 = -194.65
Total for your holiday £10449.85

IMO prices are at a peak, now is the time people want to book holidays for summer, hopefully there will be some flight deals soon.

There are a few around for £570-£650 indirect which is what I'd expect for August.

Opodo has some direct for £620 on some dates later in August.

Looking for 4th-28th from MAN can't find anything under £770ish indirect(direct £200 more) London no cheaper:sad1:

Start of August is nuts. Anything after mid-August is about £200 cheaper. Prices in the last 10 days are about £570-£600 return. But I guess if you've set your dates, you're stuck.

Thankfully I am sorted, just trying to help others who are wanting these dates.:goodvibes

Ah, yes, sorry, I remember you saying that you needed to be back for your son's A Level results now!

Occasionally bargains do crop up; the other option is to look for a cheaper flight to anywhere in the US and then either get a domestic flight straight down to Orlando or to enjoy a few days in your first destination before grabbing a cheap flight. Domestic flights can be stupidly cheap if you book in advance.

Hiya again guys.

We already have our accommodation booked at SSR from the 11th August for 3 weeks. Unbelievable our Disney holiday was cheaper for this August than what we paid for October last year. I'm fairly flexible with my outbound flight but must be back by the 1st due to eldest DS starting senior school.

Without booking my flights I can't book my car hire, my ADR window is in 4 weeks and I Just can't seem to get my head round booking them when I dont even have any means of getting there yet. :worship:

Again, if I see anything reasonable pop up I'll be sure to post here:)

Someone has posted on the dibb that kayak has 8th - 26th August for £580 -2 stops though and a long flight time.

It might be worth having a play around with dates if 2 stops is something you would enetertain.

Skyscanner has £575 from MAN or £570 from LHR 4-28 Aug - both have two stops and out journey is air Canada and return is brussels airlines!

I couldn't do it with young children but as an adult or with older kids I might?

Can also do 7-28 aug for following from London on skyscanner:

£543 - 2 stops both ways
£550 - 1 stop out and 2 on return
£644 - direct out and 2 on return

Virgin flight direct from Glasgow both ways - £722 (5-26th aug)

I'm still looking for may but hope these help someone?!

They're not trying to stop you going - they just know you're willing to pay the high prices they now charge (which you are!) so they'll fleece you for it.

Agreed :thumbsup2

I wish we could arrange a mass boycott to force airlines to reduce their fares :wizard:

I suppose its not all the fault of the airlines though, a large percentage of the price you pay is actually taxes :sad2:

I think the airlines make out you are taxed more than you actually are by adding a fuel surcharge into the tax & fees, this is going towards the running costs of the airline not a tax to the government.
Without Googling and finding the full info here is a recent article
A spokesman told the paper: "The average family of four flying to Florida will pay £292 in flight taxes in 2012, compared with £260 in 2011.
I know Virgin have included £120 fuel surcharge into our taxes and fees, just for a one way flight, our taxes are only £111.79 (one way PE, economy will be less)
