Look at this house

I second everyone else who said to put rugs over them, they won't seem to jump out so much that way. Also, if you really hated them you could put a floating hardwood floor over them. Most engineered hardwoods can be floated these days and they won't be fake looking like some laminate floors.
I can't believe that you can get a house like that for under $300,000! That is totally amazing!

Wow that is an amazing house for that price. I could live with the marble or replace it. You could not touch a home that size w/ pool for anywhere near that here. Wish I could move in... =o)

Oddly enough, we have granite floors... personally, I prefer granite over Marble.... but, anyhow, I LOVE MY GRANITE FLOORS!!!! We have them in the kitchen, foyer & baths..... I find it very odd that the house you're looking at has them in the family room, that's a bit odd, but other than that, I think you'll like the marble, if it's anything like ours, it doesn't show a thing! Actually, ours is a bit darker of a pattern, which does hide more, but I think this pattern will hide stuff as well...

If it's just the floors you find you really don't like, just cover it over with carpet, or have it pulled up... it will be quite expensive to pull it up though...

That's just weird... marble floors in the family room, but carpet in the bathroom? :confused3

A nice ceramic or terazzo tile floor throughout would be nice, but the marble is so cold and so SLICK. I like polished marble in select areas like entries and baths, but not throughout the den and casual eating areas of a home. It seems very museum-like, which doesn't fit with the style of the home at all.

And do you have any idea what will happen when little damp feet from that pool step onto the marble floors when they come in the house? It'll be liked oiled glass. Yikes. :guilty:

And they have to be freezing in the winter... That's a great price for that house too. Where I live, that house would be at least $600,000.

Katy, TX is near Houston- they don't really have winter. Cold floors are a good thing here! :teeth:

Texas housing prices are a terrific value, especially compared to markets like California or the Northeast. Shhhhh! It's our little secret! :sunny:

I really like them in the entry and even the kitchen, not so much in the den and the eating area but a really nice carpet under the kitchen table and a larger (think wall to wall) carpet in the den and a runner between the foyer and kitchen and I think it would be very nice! :)

I love it. That house is great. The price is really nice too. I could live with the floor for that price too.

Oh wow what a price, similar property here on the South East Coast of England would cost about $800,000 and even then maybe more the closer you get to London, well into the millions!! As has been said rugs would help make it feel less cold.

What would the taxes be on a place like that?

Around $4800 a year. We don't have a state income tax, so our property taxes are high.

I think the marble is unattractive, but holy toledo! That is some house for $269K! I personally would find a way around the floors, using area rugs, floating wood, whatever, and buy the house anyway if it was here. That price gets you squash around here.

One question: are the floors sealed? Because sealed marble is slippery as all get out.

I like the floors. I thought they were going to be more black and white but the overall look says grey to me. I say purchase some pretty area rugs to accent the marble. The marble will be great to maintain...unlike carpet which starts getting cruddy the day it's installed. Hardwoods are nice but very common. We have them throughout our house except the MB and 2 bathrooms. The only bad thing about the marble that I can think of is...if you drop something breakable, it's gonna break. Keep the floors. They're great! :thumbsup2

IMO the only concern with the marble would be little heads cracking on it! The marble has no give like wood floors do. Of course I worry about tile for the same reason so I might be extremely cautious.

The house is beautiful! And like others said the price is amazing.

Good luck in your search!

Thanks. A little on the high side, yes, but with no state income tax, I would say a good tradeoff.

Rugs, lots and lots of area rugs.

I like it. I do worry that it would be slippery. If you were wet coming in from the pool, I can only imagine. I have tile throughout and it is hard. DS has taken some pretty nasty falls on it.

Wow - joining the ranks of those too amazed at the price to worry about the floors! I really wouldn't want marble floors either though -certainly not black and white.

Oh no, what did you did you make me do? :scared1: I showed DH how nice the house your considering is, & at such a great price. He's always up for a move. I think he was a gypsy in a previous life. I've told him repeatedly that the only way he'll get me out of the Tampa area (after finally getting here from NC) is if he buys me an oceanfront home. He's now on the internet looking for oceanfront homes in Texas. :sad2: He's even found some cheaper than what we could get for our house. Hurry, call all your friends & tell them to buy up all the oceanfront homes that are for sale. :rotfl:

I could live with them. For that price? are you kidding??? LOL

Ive been looking at houses for 3 weeks and we couldnt touch that here for under $500000. IF you could even find it and we're still cheaper than most areas!

I actually like them in the entryway...I would need to replace them in the sitting area with wood though.
